Yes, and one of the problems with this offense is it depends too much on Witten and Dez. They need to get more people involved.
I agree that more receivers need to get successfully involved, but if you can throw 109 passes with a 111.1 rating, that's something you want to keep doing, and do more of. At least until you reach a point of diminishing returns.

Why would we trade our best offensive weapon? Nobody can be counted on more than witten.

I think you're going over board. He's reliable and can occasionally take over for a couple of quarters but he's not going to scare any teams, and he's not going take over a game, but again, he's a reliable player with plenty of fuel left in the tank. I would not trade him, but if he were to be traded, I wouldn't lose any sleep.

With this teams history of drafting why would you trade away a top 5 if not 3 TE for someone that won't produce anywhere near to what Witten would produce

Witten would maybe get us a 4th IMO, at that price would not be worth the trade.

I find it difficult to believe Jerry could get anything for Witten.

Whats stupid is your inability to understand that as an example of the fact that he's not nearly as reliable as he once was. You'd have to be watching games half asleep not to realize that he's had a bunch of drops over the last two years and that if the ball doesn't hit him in the chest he has a whole lot of trouble making a catch.

LOL!!!!!....-_-

2013 Pass Rating by Target (Romo only)
Witten 61 of 93 716 yd 8 td 0 int 117.5
Williams 42 of 69 679 yd 5 td 2 int 105.9
Bryant 85 of 142 1150 yd 12 td 3 int 105.1
Murray 48 of 55 311 yd 1 td 0 int 96.3
Beasley 38 of 49 361 yd 2 td 2 int 94.0
others 68 of 127 611 yd 3 td 3 int 64.8

Yep. Totally unreliable for Romo. God that Witten guy sucks.

That doesn't paint the picture....I would want to know of all of the first downs for the team via pass, what % is Witten? saying witten is @ 40% is something like 30 catches out of 80-ish (don't want to do the math)...Williams might be more like 11 out of 40....much higher value to Witten who gets more first downs...

I would trade him in a heartbeat if it was part of a commitment to start over by repairing the cap situation. If the goal in trading him is to get a good draft pick to get a player to help this team get over the hump, I would then say that the suggestion to trade him is laughable. What on earth makes you feel Dallas would hit on a 2-4th rounder that will touch Witten's production over the next few years? I also would not trade him without offering him a reduced contract first.

It's seemingly the talk of NFL podcasts and draft websites with plenty of teams likely to desire his services and us desperately in need of cap space. So, would you do it? If so what would it take? I think a high 2nd rounder would be enough given this draft class. He'll be 32 at the start of next season and can't have many more seasons left in the tank.

so he doesn't have much left, except trade value?

smh

I would trade Witten because we have two young guys that can get the job done. Albeit they are still a little wet behind the ears, but Jason is no spring chicken. Witten (love the guy!) could perhaps garner us a nice return to help out in the future.

Depends on the point. Mine was that Witten was deserving of 109 targets. Yours throws targets out the window, but here's your answer.
Dez 31.4
Witten 20.7
Williams 14.1
Beasley 8.7
Murray 7.8
Austin 6.6

Witten will count 8,412,000 in 2014 against the cap.
If we trade him we will get a cap hit of 8,648,000.

IMO that makes him untradable for us.

I also think its 1 or 2 seasons too late to think about trading Witten.
Good franchises know when to trade a player. We keep extending them ....

I just cannot get on board with this idea of trading Witten. I truly believe he's more valuable to us on the field than he would be on the trade block.

And his age shouldn't even be an issue. Obviously tight ends can be successful well into their 30's, and there's no reason to think Witten won't be. Dude obviously has passion for the game, is a hard worker, and hasn't shown any decline in his play.

Also, I think it's important to keep in mind that his game isn't based entirely on athleticism. Dude is a smart, crafty, wily vet. His style of play is sustainable. He doesn't need to be the fastest, or strongest guy on the field to be successful. He's proven that.

I'd honestly be embarrassed to see us trade him for a draft pick and end up with some role player, while we watch our HOF TE play for, and contribute to, some other team's success.
