Trey Lance trade is one of the worst moves Jerry has ever done

And that’s say a lot. There was absolutely no reason to make this trade at this time in the year for another QB. He’s probably not going to play at all this season.
Always a good time to get a legit QB prospect on the cheap.

Great deal. I'd take another one of the same value proposition tomorrow.

My original post was in response to our bro that stated that “Dak has always responded well to any competition hes encountered“. I responded that he hasn’t had any competition here, which is factual.

im just bewildered that anybody here believes that MM and his staff can suddenly produce quality out of a player that Shanahan and company couldn’t fix……I just want better for this team and I have to believe what I’ve seen of Treys sample size of plays, but more importantly, what Shanahan has seen for 3 years
Yea, but one never knows. Jared Goff was the number 1 pick in the draft and run out of town by the Rams. Given away to Detroit as part of the Stafford trade to get his salary cap off the book and never considered as being much of anything. Has played damn good for Detroit. Bottom line is a change in scenery can sometimes work out.

The panic is something else to watch. The Church of Dak is outraged over this. How dare the owner and GM of the Cowboys not consult with our beloved Dak over a personnel decision.

A 4th round pick for the possibility of a future starting QB isn't over paying. At worst Lance is a backup that can win you games...... That's worth a 4th rounder to me
At worst he's a guy that you quickly learn is a far, far worse option than Cooper Rush, and never plays a meaningful snap in Dallas....ever.

That's the worst case scenario.....and based on history, probably the most likely.

Busts don't usually become good #2's....much less a starting QB. We will see.

All it does is create QB controversy with the haters who actually believe that he’s better than Dak. And what’s worse, MM had no idea about the trade until it was already done. Dumb move by the ownership. Just horrible timing right before the season opener.
Worst part is cutting Grier who is twice as capable as Rush. Grier is a GP open wheel driver compared to short bus driver Rush. We’re gonna regret it.

The NFL IQ on this board is Madden level.

No one is talking about what this trade really means.

Forget about the player. Next year you all can talk about that.

This year he brings nothing. He takes up a roster spot. He gets paid like a top three pick, not a 4th rounder. So Jethro is once again spilling words out both sides of his decrepid mouth. Uh, we can't pay Zack because we have to think of the future. But we sure can pay for a third string QB that was cast aside.

And is this really the message you want to send, two weeks before the season starts? Is this supposed to incentivise Dak?

Who was KCs 3rd QB? Philly?

Jerry just saw some flashy nes toy. Overpaid for it and forced it on his head coach. Stupid. Just stupid.

How can he be a bust when he has barely been in the league and am injury derailed an entire season?

Not every player comes in day 1 and produces at a high level. QB takes time, some more than others.

Sure he can turn out to be a bust but his ceiling is a franchise playmaking QB. He has all the traits, just needs the developing part. Spending a 4th round pick on a QB that just turned 23 with the potential of Lance is a very good choice. If he bust you lost a 4th round pick which odds are you aren't getting a starter with that pick anyways.

It's not like Dallas gave high picks for Lance. Just a 4th rounder

If you can't see that, then I will just respectfully disagree with you.

Well, we are paying Cooper Rush 1.5 Million this year to be the back up QB. Trey Lance will cost us 940K this year. The rest will be paid by San Fran. Next year it will be a lot more, but we might know what we got by then. . We may cut him next year and not have to pay the 5.31 Million he is scheduled to make. This is low risk at this point. Buffalo wanted him and they are competing for a Super Bowl.

Not sure why all the controversy. It was a good move IMO. Not getting Lance necessarily but getting a young developmental guy as the 3rd QB. It turns out Lance was highly regarded coming out of college and the Cowboys got him for a 4th. He will sit on the bench and learn (hopefully) and in 2 years if Dak decides to hold the Cowboys up for ransom maybe Lance will be ready to step in. Lots of first rounder QB never make it in the NFL, but hopefully a change of scenery and coaches and a slow pace of development will help bring out the best in Lance. If not, its not like the Cowboys lost some future star by cutting Grier.

perhaps you haven’t seen my 100+ posts bemoaning the fact that the FO hasn’t drafted before the 4th round or brought in quality backup quarterbacks for this team. Look at the quarterbacks that we have drafted or brought in via FA since 2002……it’s a who’s who of schmucks.

Doesnt bringing in a legit #2 guy here afford itself to natural competing play?

Unfortunately for some here I can’t be lumped into either the camp that has its collective panties in a wad because they think that Dak could actually be replaced by this 1sr round failure and I’m not in the camp that is desperately hoping that Dak gets ousted by this walking lump of excrement.

I merely think Lance sucks and shouldn’t be on the team based on his own performance…….not based on being pro Dak or anti Dak.

Not everything here is Dakota-centric
He’s not a legit #2. Hell he couldn’t even win the #3 job in San Fran. Maybe in 3 or 4 years.

So are the Cowboys. Jones just made it harder with this move because it’s going to affect team chemistry. Both MM and Dak were visibly frustrated with all the Lance questions. I hope, and expect them to get over the timing of the trade and move on into the regular season. But there will be fans clamoring to give Lance a chance after the first bad series of the year. Just more distractions the team has to put up with.

Again I have no problem with the trade. A 4th rounder is not to heavy of a price to pay for someone who can Maureen get you a 3rd rounder in a couple of years.

But, even then, $5.1 mil isn't bad for a QB. So, I think it's still a reasonable situation to keep him. We basically have a QB with a rookie deal.

"Your boy"? Dak hater to the core ^^^^.

I hope Dak gets let go after next season, and Cowboys Nation is forced to watch your new boy Lance try to duplicate (or come anywhere close) to what Dak has accomplished.
Why wouldn't they be ....our ......next boy? If he's good.
Why are you protecting Dak? From a threat that isn't even real?

do you not want the best player! Bring in someone that might be better than what we have?

are you for the team....or for a player?

you ultra Dak crusaders are very weird.

Bring in
A possible better player.....threatens your so very fragile ego.
You didn't get to approve it.

You do not run the team.

Nobody cares what you think.

I know... So very hard to accept. Suck it up buttercup snowflake.

San Fran was ready to win the big one last year. Lance wasn't ready to play so they stayed with Jimmy G. When Jimmy G. got hurt he came in and played 2 cames and was injured and lost for the year. Purdy came in and he is now the man. Don't need two young QBs as one and two. You need a young stud and a veteran backup in case the young stud gets hurt. They needed to move Lance because he was making too much money to be a number 3 QB. Goodness folks this isn't hard to see. Smart move to do what we did. We aren't played the lottery. This actually has a reasonable chance of working out in our favor. The other thing is Lance is regarded by everyone as being a good dude. Smart, works hard etc. and is a good team guy. Dak is 30 and the physical skills aren't what they were a couple of years ago.

There really wasn't much else. He's got a bit of speed, but he's not particularly fast. Slow processing speed. May not be particularly athletic.

To reiterate, I don't mind throwing a 4th at him all that much. I'd have been POed at a 3rd or higher.
Not particularly athletic. Clearly you guys don’t really know anything about this kid.
