Tropical Storm / Hurricane Harvey

I know someone that lives in Bay City who said yesterday they are forcing an evacuation of the town so they can flood{?}the town to relieve flooding in nearby areas I presume. Has anyone ever heard of this? I haven't. Seems to me they wouldn't want anymore flooded areas than they already have, they said they heard it would possibly add several feet of water over the town.

Heard something to that affect this morning on the news.

An Army Corps of Engineers spokesman says crews have started releasing water from two flood-control reservoirs in the Houston area ahead of schedule.
Spokesman Jay Townsend says the water releases began early Monday at the Addicks and Barker reservoirs after water levels increased dramatically over the past few hours

Don't know Texas well enough if those Reservoirs are near Bay city.

Some levees are about to break, they do that to avoid more catastrophic flooding of larger populated areas. They are also doing this in the Sienna Plantation area. This is going to flood the bayou even more.

@dexternjack

And prayers are with you and yours, my friend.

Way more important than a shark.

I was being real with the shark giddiness, not trying to bring levity to this thread. I adore sharks.

But that is nothing when it comes to the real life, human implications people like yourself and our brother @RGV_Clos are facing -- as well as many other members of this board, and your'all families.

I am perfectly safe, just sitting here in anguish watching family members losing their homes and such :(

I can't get in touch with the wife, she is stuck in some hospital somewhere with no cell service. What a mess!

Wow, to top off a crappy week, my wife's uncle had a heart attack and died today :(

He lived in Lake Charles, wonder if the weather had anything to do with it, stress and all. He was older and not in good health anyways.

The hits keep on coming.....................:banghead:

They used to be. Few years back GE bought the foundry and all the other accouterments, and promptly closed it down and sent the manufacturing overseas. There was a trailer division as well that made mainly aluminum flatbed big rig trailers, and a marine gear division that I believe is still functioning. They mostly make monstrous transmissions for ships and such as that.
EDIT: there is a new company in town, comprised mostly of ex Lufkin Industries employees that has a new design for pumping units they are supposed to start shipping them out soon. I know they built a big shop on the North side of town, but haven't really noticed for sure if they are operational yet.
