Scheme is important in today's NFL. The really good offenses show this with their creativity each and every week. All the coaches from the Shanahan Tree are constantly lauded for the innovative ways of basically updating an offense that's been around over 40 years. Even Andy Reid, who learned under Holmgren, has realized for years that you have to update your scheme to keep up with the changes. Simple eye candy in most of those schemes allows those teams to basically run they same type of plays they always have - they just look different to the opposition. It ain't rocket science. Unfortunately, we have stubborn coaches combined with a FO that has coddled their QB for years and he still hasn't become a QB that can carry a team. Oddly enough though, it does seem the 1-2 times a game (or every other game) when Dallas runs a play that has even the least amount of creativity, it generally seems to work. Yet, they NEVER run that play again.
