Not signing him and being stuck without a viable starting QB could doom the franchise for the next five years and beyond. Not having a QB will guarantee Jerry will never see another Super Bowl in his lifetime. Hard to build a great team when you’re burning first round picks trying to find a QB. You could burn a bunch of draft picks trying to find one. You have to start packaging draft picks to try and move up in the draft and that doesn’t guarantee you’ll hit on a QB
The Cowboys can afford to sign Dak, CeeDee and get Micah’s extension done right now. Jerry Jones does not like getting pushed around. Dak and France are pushing Jerry Jones around. Now Hill just got guaranteed more than Jefferson. Cowboys can’t even sign the young men that are clearly their best players on offense and defense, Lamb and Parsons. They can’t gI’ve Lamb an appropriate offer? Imagine what they offer free agents when they’re interested in one. No wonder the Cowboys rarely sign one.

If it could be done, they would do it. Dak could earn 60+ million dollars per in free agency. He’s the one holding the deal up. He may want to test the market. They don’t need to sign Parsons right now. They have him for this season. They won’t have to worry about him until next summer. It wouldn’t be smart to sign him right now anyway, because he could suffer a serious injury. Let’s see how he performs under Zimmer. He’ll probably be looking for $40 million per.

I read this morning that one of the sticking points is not money but the ability for the Cowboys to get out of the contract easy after 2 or 3 years if they want out. He wants security
I think we have to define “security “. I believe his base salary for next season is 34 million. So if I understand it correctly between now and January he will make 34 million with a total of 162 million career earnings. I have a hard time believing he’s not financially secure.

Did Romo want 20% of the salary cap or even a little more like Dak wants?
Jerry paid Romo like he was producing like Peyton Manning and fans lapped it up. I don’t recall fans having such a bold reaction towards Romo’s big payday. It was actually a lot of celebrating among fans. Double standard.

Again, Dak or any other nfl QBs deserves to be paid what the market value says he’s worth. I’m sorry you’re unhappy that Dak will likely get $60 mill a year but that’s what the market value is for a top ten QB who was second in MVP voting.

I think you are also buying in to the Jones boy’s double talk about the salary cap. They are one of the worst in the NFL at managing the salary cap and their post season record speaks for itself. Nothing in Dallas resembles any other NFL franchise because the Jones model doesn’t produce a team capable of a deep playoff run, but you already knew that.

If the numbers below are correct, Tony Romo's largest salary cap percentage was 13.2% in 2016.

Dak is 31. Not 25. 31. He also has a long demonstrated history of choking in big games. They absolutely can’t give him a huge contract like that.
They can't, and they shouldn't, but we all know how Jerry operates. He has no nads when it comes to things like this and will absolutely cave.

Many of the dak-stans think the board will explode when dak gets signed, but I don't think it will. If / when it happens it won't be a surprise to anyone, or shouldn't be. It's what Jerry does. Most expect it to happen

The problem is Dak doesn't want a market value contract, he wants a market SETTING contract, which is what paying him 60 mil a season would do. It would eclipse every other contract in NFL history by a large margin, and he simply doesn't deserve that. Mahomes is the only one who has earned that, and Dak thinks he should be paid more than a 4 time super bowl champion.

I think that is what most detractors have issue with.

Just like with Dak after the playoff loss to Green Bay, fans wanted Romo gone after the season finale loss to Washington that knocked the Cowboys out of the playoffs in 2012. Romo was up for a new contract extension and very few fans wanted to pay him. I wish I could find the thread where it was suggested we should trade him to KC for the number one overall pick. Most fans were on board with it. There was a lot of Romo bashing going on after the horrible performance he had against Washington. I had the same argument about Romo I’m having about Dak now. We can’t move on until we have a better option or we’ll be stuck without a QB. We may not have any choice with Dak because he’s got all the leverage and may want to test free agency. This could be our last season with stability at QB for quite some time. Cowboys Nation better brace themselves.

I hope he keeps talking and trolling the haters. It’s fun to watch the meltdowns.
Umm not a hater. Actually have been pretty fair with the guy. I’m pretty off and on. He just sounds like player Garrett with a bunch of platitudes while losing big games. Stop talking brotherhood and do better. But you keep being the bitter dude who think he knows everyone and you can collect likes from the anger crowd. Enjoy your Saturday

Just curious, why all the fixation on $60 million?

Now I'm assuming it means the total of all dollars in the contract divided by the total length of the contract, like 4 years for $240 million.

That being the case, why wouldn't Dak sign for $56, 58 or 59 million? Would still be the "highest paid" quarterback. Now I get it, first to break the $60 million barrier would be nice, but it's not essential to being "number 1" in salary....

but just be honest
Since when are quarterbacks honest?

We heard many quarterbacks, when talking about their contract negotiations "It's not about the money". Then the quarterback holds out or refuses to sign an offer until he gets (as Drew Brees did in one of his contracts) an amount that's only like 0.25% more than the current highest paid qb's getting.

And knowing full well in a year or less that some other qb will get more than that.

In other words, it really IS about the money. And you or I would do the same thing if we were in their shoes.

But since we have no control over what happens, why don't we just sit back and see how it ends up? Extend Dak, don't extend Dak, extend him for $55 mil, $60 mil, $65 mil, $100 mil. We'll know when the ink's dry on the paperwork....

Dak has turned into a super greedy player. There is no other way around it. Dude is all about getting paid the most. He lied when he said this offseason that he didn't want to be highest paid. Then why wait until all the other QBs got paid this year?

Dak has turned into a greedy abruti!
AC I think you got Dak's number. He likes to pretend he's not involved and doesn't really care, but behind the scenes it's a whole new game!

If he's really worth that much on the open market, imagine what his trade value would be.

But the old wildcatter who loves to tell us what a risk-taker he is doesn't have it in him. He'll meekly either cave to Dak's demands or somehow let Dak walk for only a third round comp pick.
I'd like to find out CL, I'd REALLY like to find out!

Something tells me where Dak is concerned, regardless of the amount it'll never be enough.

I just think whether its Romo or Dak, the GM is creating the ceiling for our success. I honestly dont think we could mk a deep playoff run w Mahomes as our QB because the Jones micromanagement does so much damage to the team. Our hc is a joke no matter who takes the job. They have no power as players answer directly to Jerry. Thats a flawed foundation and Jerry still thinks he can win this way. He cant and he wont regardless who is playing QB.

Dak wants to get the money the market says he’s worth. Thats not his fault or a sign of greed, he just wants what free agency will pay him. The owners mk billions on the backs of the players that are impacting their health with every snap. It seems like some fans a) dont like Dak regardless of his top ten QB performance and b) they dont want to see him get paid what the market says hes worth. Thats fine if thats your opinion but Dak is a top ten QB who plays for a very dysfunctional franchise.

Also look at the QBs that are overpaid. Do you think Kirk Cousins is worth his new contract? Of course not but he got what the free agent market will pay and kudos to him.
