While I do feel sorry for TO, especially if he didn't try to commit suicide, people please recognize that TO brought all of this attention on himself.

If he were Marvin Harrison, who goes about his business after he scores a TD and doesn't try to make himself into a cottage industry, there wouldn't be this hoopla surrounding him.

But he created the media monster. I don't see why he and his supporters can't fathom why he would be getting this type of negative publicity also.

Let those clowns over at extremeskins think what they want to think.

I don't care, just wanted to get other fans reactions and thought it was funny.

I don't believe that reading police reports makes this a "fabricated" story on the media's part.

HOWEVER, in no way is any of this TO's fault.

What is the media's fault is now spinning this to make TO look bad, if that is what they're doing (I'm no longer watching the reports concerning this). That's just irresponsible.

I just don't think anyone is protecting TO. The people around him are useless. His publicist saying or not saying something, no teamates or BP even checking on him.......he doesn't need enemies with friends like that.

While I do agree with you, outside of the bike outfit in TC, he has kept a pretty low-profile here...

It's true that the negative press will continue, but it is all perception and innuendo (as proven this morning) as to the actual truth of the matter...

He will rarely get any good press as the media loves to hate him. Brett Favre admitted to a pill addiction, but you never hear of that.

Steve Foley of the Chargers was shot in a VERY bizarre incident, but you don't hear of that.

The fact of the matter is that when arguably the highest profile player in the NFL signs with the highest profile team in the NFL, coached by the highest profile coach, you are going to get publicity. When that team happens to be the Cowboys, you are going to get NEGATIVE publicity.

We need to get used to it more than we ever have before...

From a marketing prospective, any publicity is good publicity, our ratings are going through the roof for games. JJ is gettin richer.

What came first? The media following T.O. around or a series of incidents causing T.O. to draw attention to himself? Think about that before you all start blaming the media. They ARE out of control but they did not in any way START the saga that is T.O.

Remember when ESPN just reported stories instead of trying to create and grow them to suit their own little agendas? That was a good time. Of course this was before they sold their sole and made everything short of the standings into Insider information.

I love this smilie more than similar one for the igglets, the giants, and the.......well the igglets and giants. I wish there was another sports network that reported on you know, sports.

There is. The NFL network carried the news conferences live, had phone calls from Deion and discussion with panelists including former players. They were all treating this with all the fairness one can reasonably expect.

What ticks me off more than anything? I find myself feeling sorry for and supporting T.O. because of the way the media has gone after him.

I feel ya, that's where I am at as well.

The question I have wondered aloud for awhile now is if they report like this about relatively unimportant things like sports, what kind of warped account do you think we get about the things that really do matter, say like the war in Iraq for instance? Scary as hell to think about. Problem is noone holds any of the media's feet to the fire ... over anything. Who would have ever thought freedom of the press could be twisted into such a morbid concoction of half truths and outright speculation. Pitiful.

Yes, that is a popular saying, but as a marketing major, I can tell you it is only selectively/situationally true...

Bad publicity has brought down corporations, private individuals, world leaders, marriages... etc...

It IS true that it will benefit Jerry as this will likely make Dallas vs. Tennessee the national game if TO plays...

Is the media ever guilty of anything?

...um...without your feet you have nothing to walk on?

I'm multi-tasking...and I'm male, that's a recipe for at least one screw up.

I said it backhandly, joking, lol. I got my MBA with emphasis in marketing, so I know what you are saying. Of course, if it is really, really bad publicity, it will ruin you.

But this isn't the case here. This isn't that bad now, and like you say, Dallas vs. Tenn is news now, who wouldv'e thunk it.

ESPN has now changed to, "T.O. is screwing the Cowboys over by causing another distraction."

In other words, they made up a story about suicide,

Huh? Where's the evidence that they concocted the suicide story? The police asked him point blank "Are you depressed" and "Did you try to harm yourself?" He answered affirmatively to both. ESPN (and a number of other media outlets) accurately relayed the police report. So how exactly is ESPN the villain? They didn't jump to any conclusions.

and now that they've been proven wrong

How?? Because TO or his handlers deny it? The very people who have every incentive to lie? That's all it takes for you to be convinced? Remarkable gullibility.

they try to spin it to now say he's causing the demise of the team by causing another distraction.

Objectively speaking, it is a distraction. How many non-TO questions did Bill field today? One?

I love how John Clayton earlier was backing the mental issue belief is now saying, "It's just like I figured it was with the supplements and the pain pills causing his problem." What an idiot ..

It's not the crime, but the coverup that gets you. Suicide or not, this is one troubled individual on our hands.
