Up until now I have steered clear of the Roy Williams debate...

No... He hasn't played lights out for years...

The fact that you ask that question of me lets me know you don't read my posts...

Roy has been robbing us for a few years now....

This isn't the player we drafted....

Roy playing a GREAT game? Are you stuck in 2002 or something?

the point is he didn't have a great game, and hasn't had a great game in at least 2 years. I don't expect that will change anytime soon.

When did 1 tackle become solid? When did lagging behind a ball carrier become solid?

I thought Roy had one "good" game this year.

I thought he had a few mediocre games, but I expect more from a pro-bowler.

I felt in about 1/4 of the games he played below average or beneath his ability (recent ability, not 1st 2 seasons). I felt he was a liability too often this season.

Many of Roy's tackles this year were after a receiver caught the ball and was down, OR AFTER the runner or receiver already had made a 1st down.

Coverage has been discussed to death already. The entire league, coaching, media, and most importantly NFL players know to try and pick on Roy in coverage.

I think we should try a different approach at that position. It isn't working for 2 years now. It's a team weakness, that is constantly exploited and one that we CAN"T seem to fix or cover up. That is the problem, if we can't fix it, can't cover it up or avoid it, we need to change it. If we don't can't blame anyone but the coaches/GM.

The biggest problem is, it could hurt us further to cut or trade him cap wise. But I have to think this should at least be considered. How many really think Roy can return to being the player he was first 2 years? Even last year he made some game changing plays, but not this year.

The guy is a paragon in the community etc, this isn't meant as a personal attack, but for a team trying to get to the Super Bowl, can they afford NOT to try a different approach here. This is a situation that has detiriorated for 3-4 seasons, not slowly improved or stagnated. It's getting worse. Inexcusable not to do more to change it.

Question is what. Easy for us amrchair QB's/Coaches to say it, but not as easy in implementation. Resigning Hamlin (although he was quiet today) is probably a start. He has some upside yet, and is pretty young.

Don't worry.

The Roy fan club, aka the stat-pack, will be in here tomorrow talking about what a "good" tackle it was.

thats the biggest issue, I don't think we could, and his play should be judged by every game not just one. He shows up more than he screws up. I really believe that, he has made some great stops this year, and has been playing with a new coach, I believe in him, and moreover believe he is better than average. That's enough for me, maybe my standards aren't high enough.

This weekend, I saw safeties for every other team cover TEs and running backs, break up passes, tackle surely, redirect slot receivers, and make plays.

We can do better. I'm sad because at one point I really liked him - I only own two current Cowboy's shirts and he's one. At this point I really rate Roy at or near the bottom of SS, and certainly bottom among playoff teams.

And I've done the salary cap breakdown in other threads, it's really not that bad to cut him loose. I doubt we get a hot cup of coffee in a trade, but I'd call the Raiders and Lions just in case.

Well maybe Roy is more suited to a 4-3 defense. He did make the Pro-bowl for a million years in a row, deserved or not. Since we paid him big bucks the next team only has to cover his salary right?

I'm guessing we wouldn't get a 1st or 2nd rounder. Isn't that telling in itself though. If we can't trade this "pro-bowl" player for a 2nd day draft pick (I don't know if this is the right thing, I'm just hypothesizing), then doesn't that suggest the level of his play. Otherwise, you'd think we'd be lining up with dance partners.

In all seriousness, maybe Parcells wants another crack at resurrecting the real Roy? Win win for Dallas and Miami, and maybe most importantly for Roy himself. I think Roy could use a change of scenery. Can sometimes help a ton.
