I just don't buy it because Jerry would know about it and would not allow it to go on. I understand there are appearances for this line of thinking but Jerry doesn't strike me as someone who would roll over and take getting screwed by Mara time and time again. I'm sure owners lobby for things all the time but Mara doesn't have some secret hold on Goodall making him screw Dallas every chance the league can.

********. Mara and Goodell are butt buddies.

I agree I think the Mara stuff is a bit over blown, Giants have had their shared of suspended players and big fines this season. Mara is an owner with clout in the NFL and so is Jerry.

It's just a running joke. But the perception does exist league wide.

Why would his agent be representing him like a lawyer for an appeal? Seems like he'd have the NFLPA providing that.

He is entitled to be represented by his own legal counsel above what the NFLPA would provide.

They can't suspend him for poops and giggles. They still have to build some sort of case. Why is it that it took actual authorities a few weeks to review the case and find no real evidence to press charges and yet the league office investigator, a Giants fan, still has an open case file on her desk MONTHS AND MONTHS later?

I thought Mara pulled all the strings and was out to get Dallas? Surely he could justify suspending Zeke based on the girls allegations because he makes all the rules and decisions, right?

Jerry rolled over for the league and Mara in the cap penalty. Likely he was given assurances in other areas, possibly guarantees for future SBs in Dallas, etc.

Jerry is smart. He knows when to play the game and when to muck it up. We saw him go after the league in the Elliott matter, which apparently might still be an open case. He picks his battles accordingly.
Yeah, good luck getting another SB when you took the league to court for collusion.

Quick look shows only two guys suspended this year. A FB who was on IR for drugs and the ridiculous one game ban on Josh Brown.

Not talking just this season. Look players violate the rules that is on the players not the owners and Mara is 1 vote out of 32 he has nothing to do with getting players suspended. If it makes people here feel better by playing the victim card fine I don't buy into all this BS.

It would get tossed in a heartbeat on an appeal and the league would find itself back in court likely to be dealt another embarrassing defeat. The league has already had a few embarrassing missteps in player punishments either overextending themselves and getting it tossed in court (Adrian Peterson) or underpunishing (Josh Brown, cough, cough).

You didn't answer the question. Why is the Elliott matter still an open case in the league office months and months and months after actual law enforcement has closed the investigation?

As you said it is perception but there are people who hate Dallas who feels like the Cowboys get all the breaks and that is just as much BS as Cowboy fans thinking the league it out to get them.

With Gregory this is an on going problem dating back to the combines and has continued not because of Mara but because of Gregory and his own actions. I hope it works out for him because I would love to have him playing but whatever happens is due to Gregory himself.

Chances are it will be both his agent and the NFLPA. However I have yet to hear the NFLPA defend his actions.

Even if the agent wasn't going to act as his lawyer for the appeal, he certainly would be the one coordinating with the lawyer and helping to mount a defense. The new agent couldn't simply fire any lawyer set up by the old agent and ask for the time needed to find a new lawyer and prepare the defense.

Not only that...the lead investigator for Zeke's pre NFL - off the field issues is none other than a Giants season ticket holder. Coincidence? I think not.

Let's use our brains here.

Well paid person who lives and works in the New York area. Likely had a strong interest in NFL football.

That sorta sounds like the type of person who'd be very likely to have season tickets for an NFL team. Heck, I'd guess he's probably got them for the Jets too.

Not to quibble but in your post you said, "this season".

And note, I am not suggesting Goodell and the league office does whatever Mara tells them to do. But Goodell has a longstanding relationship with Mara and I think people are naïve if they don't believe Mara holds heavy influence in the league office over many other owners.

And I am not one to play the victim card. I think it's funny when fans here complain about officials or the conspiracy theories that the league office has it out for us in games by giving us impartial officials.

But I believe Mara likely holds the most influence with Goodell and others in the league office and that can and has colored some decisions made by the league.

The NFL lead investigator is a woman. Your point is still valid though.

Because they have to keep up the appearance of being tough on domestic violence. It's not going anywhere or it already would have. If any discipline would be tossed so easily on appeal why is this an issue and cited as an example of Mara trying to screw Dallas? It's simply a result of the new get tough policy.

If they weren't supporting the appeal, it would be dead. Also, they can't comment on drug suspensions
