If they weren't supporting the appeal, it would be dead. Also, they can't comment on drug suspensions

They seem to be more vocal with the Adrian Peterson situation. I do understand that they can't comment on drug suspension but in this day and age of 24 hour media you would think some information would be leaked.

It would be hard to find out but I'd like to know if there have been other violations so clumsily handled.

CBA makes drug suspensions confidential

Because they have to keep up the appearance of being tough on domestic violence. It's not going anywhere or it already would have. If any discipline would be tossed so easily on appeal why is this an issue and cited as an example of Mara trying to screw Dallas? It's simply a result of the new get tough policy.

LOL. The league appears tough on domestic violence by leaving a stale file open? If anything it makes them look inept at handling their own domestic violence issues, especially in light of them completely botching the Josh Brown situation.

Not to quibble but in your post you said, "this season".

And note, I am not suggesting Goodell and the league office does whatever Mara tells them to do. But Goodell has a longstanding relationship with Mara and I think people are naïve if they don't believe Mara holds heavy influence in the league office over many other owners.

And I am not one to play the victim card. I think it's funny when fans here complain about officials or the conspiracy theories that the league office has it out for us in games by giving us impartial officials.

But I believe Mara likely holds the most influence with Goodell and others in the league office and that can and has colored some decisions made by the league.

Goodell is hired by 32 owners and sorry I don't think Mara has that much sway in determining punishment of players. Yes he complained about the skins and cowboys violating the rules on contracts but heck the skins got it a lot tougher than the Cowboys did. Believe me 31 other owners would not allow Mara to dictate and sure as hell Jerry would not

You know that there are different types of lawyers who do very different types of jobs, right?

Not sure what your point is.

Players have the right to not only have a rep from the NFLPA at any discipline hearing but they are also given the right to have their own representative present. Typically, legal counsel for players comes from their agent or someone affiliated with the agent, etc.

So it's not difficult to see why a hearing like this could be postponed given that right now, Gregory does not have his own representation.

Isn't he on or the head of the disciplinary committee or the rules committee? I think that has a lot to do with people buying in to his influence as well.

He wasn't just vocal about what the Cowboys and Skins did, he was the Chair of the Management Council that found the Cowboys and Skins guilty and he was the driving force behind the penalties.

It could take a long time to hire a new agent. That's not a decision the league can make you make in a day or two. He has practice and meetings to attend and he has to interview them and make an informed decision. Then that new agent has to find him a lawyer and get a defens prepared. The day after the super bowl sounds about right for how much time is reasonable to get all that hard work done.

and he heads up certain committee so does Jerry Jones. Jones did not fight it and why? Jerry does not lay down for anyone

JMO, but certain owners do have Goodell's ear more than others. The Ray Rice incident really showed that. No real attempt was made to get the video footage, and even without the video tape, I *think* there were enough details available to realize they could not suspend him for just 2 games. I think based upon his belief that the video tape would not see the light of day, he took a risk that he wouldn't have for several other teams, because when Steve Bisciotti and Ozzie Newsome call to vouch for him, he believed it.

Just pointing out how dumb the "lawyers are lawyers" claim was.

Lots of bad reasoning in this thread.

Jones did fight it. He filed a grievance along with Synder and they went to arbitration. The arbitrator sided with the league.

One, it was rumored that Jerry got assurances from the league for things if he dropped his grievance. Two, the case became weaker when the NFLPA decided to stand on the sideline. It was rumored that the NFLPA was afraid that the league would set lower cap limits which would hurt players in the long term.

I'll just say this, it won't just be Mara throwing a fit if Gregory plays well all post season and a day or two after the super bowl, he's suspended for all of 2017. The league will look bad, so I think this still happens before we play

It's not really a conspiracy theory at all.

Remember when the Cowboys and Commanders got penalized for apparently violating cap rules in a year when there were no cap rules? It was Mara who pushed for the punishment and Goodell obliged. Don't you find it a bit odd that after the league has taken a hard stance on domestic punishment and sometimes overreacted for PR reasons, they just hand down a random one game suspension to Josh Brown?

I think you are naïve if you don't believe there are factions within the league office and even among owners that result in some favoritism being played at times.
Yeah skins fans to this day hate Mara for it and their hatred for the giants has risen as well since.

No way. The man is entitled to representation and it takes time to get a lawyer up to speed. Mid Feb would sound about right.

This is the Cowboys front office giving a big fat middle finger to the league.

Let's use our brains here.

Well paid person who lives and works in the New York area. Likely had a strong interest in NFL football.

That sorta sounds like the type of person who'd be very likely to have season tickets for an NFL team. Heck, I'd guess he's probably got them for the Jets too.
Please don't insult my intelligence:

This is NOT A coincidence.
