We just signed two of the best football players at their prespective positions in NFL History and you're complaining?

This sets a bad example for the youth, SilverStar. ;)

Vaderjaqt has some severe hangtime on kickoffs, he'll be fine!

that is true -- if you look at his return average it is very low -- that suggests that guys are waiting for the ball rather than getting a running start on a low kickoff. for a guy who rarely gets a TB that is a pretty good stat (it could also mean he's played on some awesome coverage teams)

can anyone find the opponent's average starting field position following a kickoff for him? I can't

For his career, the opponent's average starting field position is the 36.1 yard line.

Smartarse :D

I would have rather had Longwell or Brown over Vanderdrunk but thats just me.On the field they are 2 of the best, no arguement there. Its the rest of the baggage they carry that bothers me. Everyone has issues, these 2 have subscpritions.

Didn't we sign J. Brown to an offer sheet as well and we are waiting on Seatlle to match? I'd rather give up a 7th rd pick and get J. Brown. Or wait out until Mare is cut. I am not a fan of Vanderjerk, great a loud mouth kicker who can't handle kickoffs. Get one in the draft I say.

It was rumored, but when Seattle declined to match Hutchinson's offer sheet most hope of getting him flew out the window.

how does that compare to the rest of the league?

that would mean that his average kickoff hit at the 14 since his career return average is 22.2

For what it is worth, the ranch is reporting he signed too.

But then again, Roy probably just read this thread. :)

Cowboys Closing In On Deal With Veteran Vanderjagt
http://www.dallascowboys.com/

While the Cowboys are close to filling just about every free agent need they had, kicker had not been addressed, until visiting Wednesday with Mike Vanderjagt, who appeared to be nearing a deal with the team.
While I'm pretty happy with this signing (if it actually happens), I still would have preferred Vinatieri.

I'd assumed all along that AV was pretty much playing the field and would end up back in New England.

But with him heading to Indy, I would have thought that we would have been players there.

I wonder how much less Vandy is gonna get than AV. (word is AV got roughly 2.2 a year right?)

How much did we save by going with "very very good" vs "super clutch"

That is part of the reason he is so successful at kicking field goals. His natural motion sends the ball high into the air to clear wouldbe fieldgoal blockers and for outstanding hang time on kickoffs.

Our coverage units will get more big hits and cause more turnovers due to Vanderholics superior hang time on kickoffs.

Adam Vinatieri- 28.7
Olindo Mare- 26.8
Rian Lindell- 29.1
Neil Rackers- 29.2
Matt Stover- 30.2

If there is someone you are particularly interested in let me know and I can get it.

Maybe my math is wrong, but isn't the 32-yard line the average starting field position in the most recent season that Vanderjagt was used as a somewhat full-time kickoff guy (2004)?

He averaged 58 on kickoffs and allowed 20.4 on the returns....

Cundiff's average starting field position was actually the 27.9 yard line. The year-by-year breakdown looks like this:

2002-32.1
2003-33.3
2004-25.4
2005-29.2

How many kickers, these days, actually kick the ball deep enough for the returner to take a knee? Not many.

Not worried about Vandy's KOs. Bottom line is that he's accurate, and he's added 2 or 3 wins to our upcoming season.

GREAT p/u in my opinion.

All we need now is a true FS for us to be serious SB contenders. Good to be a 'Boys fan these days.
