Maybe my math is wrong, but isn't the 32-yard line the average starting field position in the most recent season that Vanderjagt was used as a somewhat full-time kickoff guy (2004)?

He averaged 58 on kickoffs and allowed 20.4 on the returns....

You are correct, in 2004 his average starting field position was 31.8.

What's it going to be then, eh?

That has got to be if not the worst, very close to the worst.

The two best kickers in the entire league are Vinatieri and Vanderjaqt, to be disappointed in this signing is just hating on a Playmaker, as usual.

Well that doesn't make any sense, this is your team and it just improved, if Dallas would have had a kicker last season we'd of won the East.

Average Starting Field Position for others:

Josh Brown- 29.3
Adam Vinatieri- 28.7
Olindo Mare- 26.8
Rian Lindell- 29.1
Neil Rackers- 29.2
Matt Stover- 30.2

If there is someone you are particularly interested in let me know and I can get it.

Thanks - good stats.

Aside from Mare it isn't that big a diff. 31.8 isn't great but we are only talking a 2.5 yard difference between him and the others.

Of course, this could also reflect consistently poor ST play in Indy as well.

Myself -- and I suspect most everyone else here -- would have given our left nut to have Vanderjagt on our team last year.

Now we're complaining because we we're "stuck" with him instead of the ONE guy who's better than him in the league?

Unreal.

Welcome to Big D Mike! I, for one, am absolutely thrilled to have a competitor like you here.

Some people on here would complain about paying taxes on the powerball lottery.

It's to the point of being childish.

A lot of people remember Vanderjagt's miss in the playoffs, but how many remember "Mr. Clutch's" big miss in the 4th quarter against Denver in the playoffs?

We just got one of the best kickers of all-time and some people are complaining?!

Hey, this is not my 1st choice......but to say he is not an upgrade at the position would be insane to say the least.

if they really have (or are) going to sign Vanderjact, I wont be surprised if another punter who can kickoff is brought in to compete with McBriar

This whole offseason has been full of whiny fans. We have improved tremendously and now they are crying about kickoffs. "Kickoffs" ***:bang2:
Oh yeah we signed 3 linemen and the other 2 are healed but Our O-line still isn't good enough because some people around here have "Gut feelings"

I am estatic this year and you should be too.

Sorry, I didn't read the whole thread, so if it's in there I apologize. What are his stats indoors compared to outdoors?

I don't understand this whole "can't kickoff" load of crap. I have never kicked in my life (on a real team, anyway) and I can put it on the opponent's 20 and keep it in bounds. There is no reason why a guy who is an NFL kicker and his entire job involves him swinging his leg in one repetitive motion for 16 games should not be "able" to kickoff. I'm not buying it...put it on a tee and kick it...that simple. I say Vanderjagt kicks off...if not he's a pansie. I do believe he can and will be kicking off...he's kicker for crying out loud.
