Was Bobby Carpenter as bad as I'm hearing?

Brooking looked a lot better when he stayed in on 3rd down, not sure putting Carpenter in there is worth it at this time.

I would also note that Brooking did look really nice on a couple of pass plays. He seems to be getting stronger each game. I wouldn't mind him being a 3 down backer for us. I think he may be our best option for that.

is he in his restricted contract year? I wish one of us could drop him off at BParcells front door step. Every year we hear how he has improved in training camp with the same results.

Everyone, even the Carp supporters, can agree that run stopping, especially at POA, is not BC's strong suite. In fact, he is embarrassingly bad against the run.

So why in God's name is this guy EVER allowed to play in goalline or 3rd & short situations???? Keep Brooking in the game EVEN if the opposing team goes w/3 or 4 wides.

My recollection of Carpenter last night (granted, I was not focusing on him) was that he got good pressure on one blitz, he had good coverage breaking up a pass on one play, and he made a very good tackle on the sidelines keeping a guy in bounds towards the end of the game. And then he made an absolutely embarassing whiff on a tackle on a long run. I also noticed him being ineffective on at least 1 other blitz. Other than that, he was a non-factor, neither making plays nor blowing them.

I failed to see anything "embarassingly bad" other than the bad play. Did not see much good either. But his performance was not god awful.

I'm telling you that the negative attention is COMPLETELY being driven by the one atrocious play. Without that, people would not be talking any different about him than they were due to the last 2 games. I guarantee it.

how can you guarantee it? i already told you i saw more than that 1 play because of my "hype" of him before the game that made me feel rather silly.

and since you've already said he's the bag-on boy, what he does how he does it really doesn't matter, people will rag on him anyway so removing 1 bad play doesn't fix everything.

His real value is on special teams. Otherwise, turd city.

in my hype of carpenter it was mostly special teams work where i do think he does a fanstastic job for the most part. but as a LB, he's not even average as far as i can see. at least not in this scheme.

Because we didn't hear much of anything about him after the last couple of games or pre-season.

Then he makes 1--just 1--glaringly awful play and there are 10 threads about how much he sucks.

The rest of the game he played like he did against Tampa. Which is to say he was largely inconsequential.

The uproar is DIRECTLY related to the glaringly bad mistake.

Carpenter made great strides last night.

He's almost played his way off the Cowboys.

It's really simple. Tape the games and replay them. He is scared of contact and seems unwilling to make a physical tackle. At least he is decent in pass coverage.

I was trying to keep the dream of him becoming a player alive but I now realize it was false hope. :(

I watched Bobby a lot last night. The times I was able to see him and keep track of him it looked like he was trailing constantly and out of place a lot.I just thought this thing w/ fans saying he was avoiding contact was just something being said.I was wrong. He does look to avoid the physical part of tackling, but so do a lot of guys on this team for some reason. I don't understand our secondary being a bunch of shoulder throwers. Drives me nuts.WRAP UP!! The tackling last night was putrid.

Look who the secondary coach is.....nuff said :(

A linebacker that CANNOT tackle is............worthless. And so he is........

******As for the secondary Yeager: how is it Campo's fault? I mean did you think Kevin Smith, Larry Brown, etc...were good tacklers? Heck yeah they were. But Deion Sanders never was. Tackling is techique and the will power to do it. Our guys....I dunno. Ball made a couple nice form tackles last night: Newman was bad early, but great as the game went on. Jenkins sucked and Hamlin.....for the love of god I don't even want to address hamlin. Sensebaugh is a decent tackler. I think it depends on the individual player being under control, executing proper technique and having the balls to stick his nose in there. I actually think Campo is a pretty good coach: but our talent in the secondary is avg. AT BEST....you must admit.

Not anything new we haven’t already seen from him. Just Barbie being Barbie.

Regardless, the way Brooking is playing...he needs to be playing all 3 downs.

I'll agree that Brooking looked pretty good against Carolina, but he looked like crap the first two games.

After watching what Rex Ryan has done in New York this year, I firmly believe a youth movement among the Dallas coaches has to happen. Joe DeCamilliis is a start.

Sweet of you to try attributing that play to Carpenter, but the truth is the Panthers player was tackled in bounds because he attempted to go inside of Barbie for extra yardage. Barbie made the tackle, but he didn't prevent the guy from going out of bounds. This was Mike Tirico's take as well.

Guy probably thought he'd be able to break the tackle of our finesse LB.

Just give Carp a mic and be done with it....

Thats his true love....
