It’s already been attempted with Dak in 2016, 18, 21..

Yeah, so did Dak in week 1 and last years playoffs loss to 49ers.
If you wouldn’t take Herbert over Dak then just stop.

Herbert has been in the league two years and missed the playoffs both years.

What he has right now is nice stats, which I'm always told don't matter when in relation to Dak.

When Herbert becomes the highest paid QB in the NFL in another year or two, are you still going to take him over Dak?

You should know by now that in relation to Dak that the goal posts will always move. Anything to avoid giving him credit.

Yes, I would in a heartbeat. And so would the other 31 teams in the league.

I'm not even going to mention his first years, when most considered them his best.

To keep it relevant, I'll just look at his last three seasons. 2019 to 2021. I'll compare him to all the other quarterbacks that had at least 500 pass attempts during that same time span.

There are 40 quarterbacks that meet that criteria.

Dak Prescott:

Completion percentage: 10th place (tied with Aaron Rodgers)

TD percentage: 10th place (4-way tie with Tom Brady, Josh Allen and Justin Herbert)

INT percentage: 10th place lowest (3 way tie with DeShaun Watson and Teddy Bridgewater)

Passer Rating 8th place

Yards per attempt 7th place (4-way tie with Kirk Cousins, Ryan Tannehill and Joe Burrow)

Sack percentage 5th place lowest

Adjusted yards per attempt 4th place

Yards per game 1st place

Dak Prescott is one of only three QB's to be a top ten in every one of these categories.

Depending on your definition of "elite", I would say that describes Dak.....right now.

Trolls want none of this. Almost seems as if they are targeting me. They got me triggered!

Let me beat them to it...lets move the goal posts and blame Dak for rightfully hosing Jerry or lets blame Dak for losses in a team sport. :muttley:

2023 is expected to be a strong QB class . It might be the time to draft heir apparent. Then we’d have more options when Daks contract comes up to renegotiate.

I agree, but I'll be shocked if the Jones boys actually draft one. They're more likely to extend Dak, with a signing bonus, to lessen his cap hit (currently $49 million in 2023).

In 2016 he played the bus driver role to perfection, and for the first few games of last season, you had to put him in the conversation of one of the best in the league. That regression hit hard though. Want to argue bottom of the top 10-12? Go for it. Elite? As in sitting there in the top 3-5 in the league? Stop it.

There is only a handful of elites
But if a team churned QB’s trying to find that elusive elite guy you’d go through decades before you might find him
There are QB’s in the HOF I wouldn’t consider elite
But they were top QB’s of their era and many only got in because their TEAM won a ring
Dak is not currently an elite QB, IMO, but he doesn't need to be for this team to win. This is a very good team. Dak just needs to not try to do too much.

As I’ve said before, there is always a constant re-writing of the narrative regarding Dak. After his putrid last half of the season last year, his biggest fans started flipping the script that they never declared him elite on this board. Without getting in particular posters on this site, among them folks who claimed he was better than Mahomes or Allen, the following article clearly establishes that people were actually challenging the general claim that Dak proved himself elite, meaning this was a common perception that needed to be addressed.

The numbers aren’t changing since this article has been written. Even without taking into consideration the win-loss record, Dak is horrible when it comes to TD/INT numbers against quality competition and the stakes are high. 2021 was actually a greater demonstration of this very fact that Dak is a garbage-time QB that is basically in the category of a Goff, though we haven’t seen Dak on a team anywhere near as bad as Detroit. Both of them were horrible on their later progressions and both of them were on good teams, beating up bad opponents.

You can’t claim it’s because of the ‘defense’ he loses.
According to Tad, Jerry and Stephen he's elite and one of the best players in the league. According to the Anti-Dakkers he's average at best. According to the Dak Homers he's top 10 or so. Besides Tad, Jerry and Stephen I don't believe anyone has claimed he's "elite".

In my reality or opinion or whatever you want to call it. I've seen Dak play as good as anyone in the league. He can lead the Cowboys to the best offense in the NFL. I've also seen Dak play so bad that he looked like a backup. So it depends on who the real Dak is. We'll find out this season. This season he has the line, the defense and the running backs. I wish he had a true #1 receiver but if he's really a franchise QB to build around he would elevate the WRs he does have. So we'll see. I'm cautiously optimistic but bracing for post Denver Dak.

No you're not. The bigger issue lies right at the top. Dak is just one piece to the puzzle. Lesser QB's have SB rings and to place blame on one player is easy. It's lazy. There are much bigger problems with the team.

Everyone knows JJ is the problem. What’s the one position on the field that can overcome JJ’s World? See….Joe Burrow. We are a good not great QB away from making a run. We need a run stuffing DT, replace Mr. softie at MLB and we’re there. JJ is going nowhere so neither are we until these changes are made. More and more folks are starting to see Dak for what he is. I’ve watched him since HS.

What’s lazy is blaming everyone and everything except Dak. You also just blatantly throw out we’re incompetent at the top. You bring no options as to what changes can be made. We can overcome JJ but only with a STUD QB if the other changes aren’t made. The book is still out on KM because with Dak and Rush, he has absolutely NOTHING to work with. Please bring more to the conversation…it’s starting to get boring.

Dak was never elite. He's a 2nd tier QB who you can win with if you give him a little help. Running game or a defense and you'll win. Having him throw the ball 55 times a game(from the empty set) is the wrong game plan.

Serviceable yes, above average at times yes, elite, no where close. Dallas never should of signed him to another contract but like so many other bad contracts Jerry had offered out he didnt have much choice with Dak because he doesn't have any idea how to plan for the future. Jerry has been stuck in this win now mode and its killing the team.

Right, if you want to win with a QB like Dak you need to stop putting the game in his hands and instead take it out of his hands. Bolster your lines, a punishing running game, receivers and Tight Ends that can hold on to the ball run precise routes and can adjust to a qb who cannot place the ball right and a defense and special teams that scores.

It’s gotta be something other than talent. No one with any knowledge of the QB position at the pro level can look at the 2 and say different. He’s on a whole different level than Dak.

no he was never elite, he was a 4 round qb for a reason. he inherited a team with stars around him and if you think for 1 minute he's gonna get you to win a super bowl keep smoking that weed because it's probadly the only reality that you have being in a trance because that is as far as that goes. Jerry made him a 40mil qb because he had to he likes going cheap and sticking wads of cash in his pocket instead of taking this team where it needs to go. Jimmy Johnson said it plain and to the point EGO EGO
