Was Dak Ever Considered Elite

Who can do anything with moving goal posts?

The only moving goal post is to prop up Dak. Dan Marino never won the big dance but c’mon what season has Dak ever come close to Mariano’s numbers? Eli won two titles with the Giants and is headed to the HoF whether you like it or not. Peyton, two titles and again amassed record breaking seasons that Dak has never come close to.

If Im a GM Im paying an "average player" with 5 years experience and putting up stats like Dak did.

This isnt an easy game and busdriving QBs are hard to find. I will take an average busdriver that puts up Dak like numbers.

As I’ve said before, there is always a constant re-writing of the narrative regarding Dak. After his putrid last half of the season last year, his biggest fans started flipping the script that they never declared him elite on this board. Without getting in particular posters on this site, among them folks who claimed he was better than Mahomes or Allen, the following article clearly establishes that people were actually challenging the general claim that Dak proved himself elite, meaning this was a common perception that needed to be addressed.

https://www.thebiglead.com/posts/cowboys-dak-prescott-stats-good-teams-contract-01e8w476239v

The numbers aren’t changing since this article has been written. Even without taking into consideration the win-loss record, Dak is horrible when it comes to TD/INT numbers against quality competition and the stakes are high. 2021 was actually a greater demonstration of this very fact that Dak is a garbage-time QB that is basically in the category of a Goff, though we haven’t seen Dak on a team anywhere near as bad as Detroit. Both of them were horrible on their later progressions and both of them were on good teams, beating up bad opponents.

You can’t claim it’s because of the ‘defense’ he loses.
He was never and will never be elite,he great against bad teams and stinks against good teams.. which makes him totally average.

Have a beautiful day
Just don’t turn into one of these Prescott haters. It’s OK to critique the quarterback when he screws up. But they totally dislike him and say his garbage that’s baloney

You want to know how to get an elite QB. You do the exact opposite of what Dallas has done the past 25 years. It's that simple.

You draft a QB in the 1st round. That QB will be under a cheap 4 year contract. By year 3 if he is not playing lights out you can either try and trade him or just let him walk at the end of his four years and you start over and draft another 1st round QB on a cheap 4 year contract and try again. If he does turn out to be the golden boy and has taken us deep into the playoff/superbowl by year 3 or 4 then and only then do you offer a second contract.

These questions about was Romo an elite QB or is Dak an elite QB is laughable. There is a reason Dak was a 4th round pick and had something like 6 or 7 QBs taken before him, there was also a reason Romo was a undrafted player just as Rush. Digging from the bottom of the barrel is not going to get us an elite QB

so using your logic, I guess Brady isn't or was ever elite?

I was wondering who would be first...congrats its you... gotta offer up the one QB that has made it out of hundreds of QBs that has tanked during that same time.......so using your logic you want to draft 6 round QBs until we find that needle in the haystack .....I'm not sure the NFL will be around in the year 3000 because he pretty much is that 1000 year wonder.

so what you're saying is that it's not the norm but there are exceptions?

You guys have to come to a concensous already.

All i hear from 90% of this board is that the Jones "suck" and they can't build a team. All i hear is that we didn't get this guy or that guy....etc.

Now...when it suits your argument, Dak plays with a "stacked" roster and the Bengals and Chargers are paupers.

It is really unbelievable.

Just so you know, 32 out of 32 GMs would have taken Wentz and Goff (and did 4x's) over Dak too. It means absolutely nothing.

point taken…but there’s a flaw in that. They would’ve taken them with just two seasons worth of data. There’s plenty of info on Dak now, and while serviceable, he’s far from special. You can get similar results with many different guys. GMs will always go with the younger guy hoping their ceiling will prove to be higher than Dak’s has been. At this point he is what he is

Oh there are always exceptions...and how have those exceptions worked out for us over the past 25 years.....the last time we won a superbowl was with a 1st round QB.....since then these low round/undrafted/has been QBs have taken us no where except the toilet bowl...I think we have had something like 25 different QBs start at least one game for us since Troy retired.....see the pattern here? .But I guess that must be ok by your theory.

Have you looked around the league at qb play lately?

You are assuming that what Dak does is easy...it isn't. Many, many teams wish they had Dak Prescott right about now.

He doesn't make 40 mill per year.

19.7 this year. Less than that last year. 31 mill when he was franchised the year before. Peanuts before that.

Dak is like the 8th highest paid qb.

I have to agree with your logic. But teams still love to pay decent QBs elite money given no other choice. But with a defense like ours, and given the state of the NFC, I'd say we have a shot with a QB like Dak as long as he's a significant upgrade over our backup.

In 2023 Dak will be the 2nd highest paid QB (behind Watson) with a $49.1M cap hit.

Oh wow...being locked to 2 or 3 years of cap squeeze because of Dak's contract. A guy that worked for you and played well for cheap for 4 years and now you want to cry about 2 years of cap squeeze for an above average QB in the NFL who doesnt turn ball over much?

I just think real GM's would laugh at some of these posts.
