Was Romo's Career "Wasted"?

Yes. Been saying it for years. You have a great QB like Tony for a decade and only get 2 playoff wins out of it. It just makes me sick.

I've been saying it since I've been a member.

This franchise is horribly mismanaged.

Its by pure luck at the QB position that we've managed ANY winning seasons.

This is the cleveland browns of the NFL management totum poll.

Remember the 1-11 year without Romo. All the Campo years etc.? Thats what would be our consistent output on the field had it not been for an undrafted free agent, and a 4th round QB.

% of seasons that the QB's defense allowed less than 20 ppg:

Bledsoe: 100%
Morton: 100%
Prescott: 100%
Staubach: 100%
Aikman: 83.33%
White: 57.14%
Carter: 50%
Meredith: 42.85%
Romo: 12.5%
Cassel: 0%
Kitna: 0%
Hutchinson: 0%
LeBaron: 0%
Pelleur: 0%
Testaverde: 0%

As total seasons, defense allowed <20 ppg:

Aikman: 10
Staubach: 8
White: 4
Meredith: 3
Morton: 3
Bledsoe: 1
Carter: 1
Prescott: 1
Romo: 1
Cassel: 0
Hutchinson: 0
Kitna: 0
LeBaron: 0
Pelleur: 0
Testaverde: 0

Pretty arbitrary choosing 20ppg and not adjusting for era. It's been on the todo list for months, and is only step 1, so I'm sharing as is.

I know for sure he was wasting away on the bench in the 2nd rd of the playoffs last year.

For what reason I have no friggin clue. Something about Dak got us there or something I couldnt understandlast

Last year was ours for the takin. But everyone was full of Dakmania.

I don't know how it's anything but "of course".

Some, okay a lot, of those teams were just terrible.

I feel bad for him, then I realize he made 100 mill and I feel less bad, but Jerry really screwed the pooch with Tony.

He wasn't a great quarterback. He was a very good quarterback. He did as well as he could.

If a team has the services of a top 5-7 QB for over 10 years and proceeds to undermine him by putting a high school HC in charge and reaches the post season 2-3 times then that is pretty much the definition of 'wasted'
Yeah.
Its really kind of amazing that in the 8 full years that he started, they made they playoffs 4 times, had winning records 5 times, and never had a losing season.
Oh well...

Yeah.

Won 2 playoff games
0 championship game appearances (forget about victories)
Never even sniffed the SB

Yeah. That sport of tennis just didnt work out for him.
Should try a team game next time:rolleyes:

Seriously though. I get it.
With a QB that good, the organization missed a real opportunity.

"Was Romo's career wasted?"

Based on the responses in this thread I think people interpret this question in a variety of different ways. (which is okay; I'm not saying there's a right or wrong)

My answer is an ENORMOUS NO, it was not wasted. Romo gave it his all, made the most of his opportunities, and did all he could do considering the circumstances he was in. He played as well as he could for us. No way you can call that a waste in my eyes.

To me, when I talk about wasted careers I think of guys like Ryan Leaf, Rolando McClain, probably Randy Gregory in a couple of years (hopefully I'm wrong), Greg Hardy, Jay Ratliff, Josh Gordon, etc. THOSE are wasted careers.
Thats about it. Fans expectations are really what were wasted. Tony did what he could do. He was, in fact, never a great Playoff performer, on the other hand he never had a qualified HC. He did lead 13-3, 12-4,11-5 and 10-6 clubs...big accomplishment in itself. He came up short in the playoffs with these same clubs. There is no sugar coating that.He was a good QB and sometimes better than that. But, with Tony there has always been a lot of revisionist history.
