Was T.O. worth the trouble last year?

superpunk, TO dropped at least 1 crucial pass last year because he looked up the field before securing the football, you can't be a clutch receiver if you aren't the most reliable, it goes hand in hand, no pun intended

and 1 crucial play, 9 years ago, means squat

You can't comprehend it.

Never mind.

I can, you want TO to be clutch, but the problem is, he's not

He has been in the past, he made the big plays that changed games in Philly and SF he has been clutch in the past. I'm willing to say the hand could have been a big part of it but what ever the reason may be does not change the fact that he did not come up with many clutch plays for us this past season and I hope that changes this season.

For those who read this thread to the very last, I offer the following, which I post to a friend who is an Eagles fan, and still makes fun of T.O. tearing up the Cowboys locker room: I apologize for the formating, but you can sort of figure it out. There wasn't an Eagle player in the top 30 receivers last year.

outside of the Steve Young TD, and the catch and run to beat the Giants in the playoffs, TO hasn't been known for being clutch

I disagree, he came up with many big plays in SF and in Philly and helped change games.

I am still trying to figure out.

What trouble?

When he was playing. He was fine. When he was not playing. He was still fine. The pill overdose was NOT a distraction to this team. The antics he was doing during training camp was NOT a distraction to the team.

Worth the trouble?

Someone needs a poll that is legit. Oh I dont know. Was the 13 TD's and 1200 yards worth the $$? That is a more legit poll.

13 TDs aren't big plays? or are you talking about clutch-big plays?

I'm talking clutch plays and yes I saw many times in Philly and SF when they needed a big play TO would make the big play. I'm not talking last second TD as much as game altering plays that would break the back of the opposing teams. I know he is capable of it because I have seen it too often in the past. I may not care for the man but I do understand his abilities. If this was just hate on my part I could do like some others and say TO best days are gone and or he has lost it that is not the case, I expect more because I have seen it from him. We can talk raw numbers all day but there comes a point in games when it is critical that someone steps up and makes the play and I did not see enough of that from TO this past season. If people want to take this as trashing TO then so be it but that is not the intention

I could careless about some poll, I made a comment I feel is a true statement not excuses or some coddling of TO. Anyone who has watched his career knows he has been a guy who can make the clutch plays. This past season for Dallas he was not making the clutch plays. Number are great but making the play when the team needs it the most is what clutch players do and what Owens has done in the past. I may not like him but I do expect to get those types of plays from him. So please sit back and call me a hater and turn a blind eye to truth but if watched any of Owens career you would understand what I'm referring to.

Fergit it. The lines have blurred so much on this thread. Yes, there is something to be said about clutch plays. And making what one thinks is a true statement or point. Don't pay no mind to me. I just got caught up in the moment.
Some times we get too rabid and forgit it's just a game. . . . just a game!!!
I'm OK now, I just lost track of my priorities. NFL football is life!!!!:laugh1:

If we are going to be totally unfair and compare Owens to our favorite Cowboys WR MI, let's at least be fair enough to remember Owens never had HOF QB Troy Aikman getting him the ball, or HOF RB Emmitt Smith occupying the safeties.

Like him or not, Owens has been and still is a great NFL WR.

Some of you don't like him, I get it.

You don't need to try and justify why you don't like him by pointing out reason why he isn't perfect.

the only clutch plays I can remember TO producing were the Steve Young catch to beat the Packers, and the catch and run to spark the comeback victory against the Gaints in the divisional playoffs a few years back

I know he had some great days, like catching an NFL record 22 passes and coming back in the Super Bowl to catch 122 yards worth of passes, but I wouldn't consider those clutch moreso than TO just catching alot of passes

I'm glad Owens is on the team.

Didn't really see any trouble coming from him last year.

It will be interesting to see Owens this year with a coach that has publicly stated that he wants him and is part of the family and won't just ignore him and act like he's not there.

And have a coach that will actually say his name.
