Has watkins lost his mind? Ya lets reward a guy who has gone 8-8 three straight years, makes sense.

At least rex ryan has accomplished something in his coaching tenure

Everyone in Dallas gets pizza and a trophy no matter what the record is. Look at that scouting team.

So we have a "LAME COACH" who is a "lame duck"????

If my company didn't have random drug test, I would love to try whatever Watkins is smoking.o_O

I don't know that Parcell's got an extension, but for some reason I recall him getting some fresh money. So maybe he got a 1-yr deal
Comparing the two is just stupid. Ron Rivera had an extensive coaching background and every year the team improved and in his third year of 'process' they made the playoffs. This proves that if Ron Rivera was on the hot seat, Garrett should be fired.

It's not stupid...when the person suggesting it's stupid is missing the point. But continuing to harp on that point after I've clarified in other posts would be stupid.

I think Rivera had a 4 year deal.
I just checked and yes he was entering the 3rd year of his 4 year deal. But the overriding point was how he entered the season on the hot seat, because of the lack of success by the team.

ESPN’s SportsCenter cut away from Jones speaking to discuss the Luck story, but we stuck around to uncover the goodies. The home viewers didn’t miss much.

1. Garrett’s contract will last four years. That’s fairly standard for a new coach.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/01/06/jason-garrett-gets-four-years-from-cowboys/

Garrett signed a four-year contract extension with the Cowboys in 2011, which gives him one more year on his deal after this season.

I don't know what you are getting to, but this is his last season under contract. There is no way to dispute this, he signed a 4-year extension in 2011. That is 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 under contract. Whatever handshake deals you might think they have, he is still under contract for his last season :)

Jerry has two choices here:
1. extend Garrett later
2. fire him

There is no gray area, it is black and white with one year remaining.

i guess jerry did say it

and so it begins....

excuse #1 for garrett groupies:

how can you expect the players to listen to him, he was a lame duck coach and never given the chance to succeed because of jerry.

WG, i dont think i have had a problem with anything you have said

You were responding to a post that had quoted me as suggesting that the two coaches resumes were equal. I was simply pointing out, to you, if no one else, that nobody in this thread actually made that point.

Sometimes things get lost when people scan a post and then attempt to make a snarky post.

Ron Rivera was a lame duck if I'm not mistaken and was totally on the hot seat at the beginning of the season. If JG can turn the team around as Rivera did, then I'm all for a Rex Ryan extension.

Oh great

This has shades of Clint Murchinson/Gil Brandt re-upping Tom Landry early in his coaching career, when a lot were calling for his coaching "head"..........I believe they gave him a new 10 year contract in the face of his detractors...........the rest is history.

Don't see much of Tom Landry in Jason Garrett............Landry was innovative in so many ways, he adapted his system to the strengths of his players.........Garrett is the opposite-in almost refusing to use bunch sets, quasi pik routes, motion, play action to any great extent to help his scheme.

Who cares of Rivera was on the hot seat? He improved both years, meaning turning the team around. His being on the hot seat was unjustified if we are actually talking progress, while Garrett's was justified.
