We are going to find out what Garrett is made of

Thats a huge problem. If we play the way we did with Weeden and Cassel we are done. They will need to protect Dak but also take some shots. I hope the obsessive dinking and dunking was more a product of having crappy qbs afraid to take a shot than play calling.
I think both Weeden and Cassel were afraid of making mistakes because we had open receivers but they wouldn't pull the trigger and they didn't have a healthy Dez. Dak has already shown he's a no fear QB with some of the throws he's made to "covered" receivers. Now, when it gets real, it gets turned up and we'll have a better idea of how much leash they give him.

If I am a member of that offensive coaching staff and had been called out by the check signers in the off season, I wouldn't be playing this tight at all. He's a rookie and mistakes will be expected but they will have to open it up to keep the 8th man out of the box. We cannot run the offense through the QB, have to tun it through the RBs.

Opie isn't a horrible coach with Romo. When he doesn't trust the QB to change a bad play he goes stupid conservative.

Tony's passing prowess isn't why we went 1-11 last season without him. His IQ at the LOS is the much bigger loss.

I think this is what Dak wanted, is to be the starter, and I think he is ready, green but ready.
I do hope they adapt the offense to him, and design some ways he can run "SAFELY"
He had 2 runs in this last game that he took hits, and I didnt like that.
Dak can win and carry the team, but linehan and JG need to adapt to him, not make him adapt to the
Romo offense.

Jason should be able to win with Dak, and if he cant he should go.

Agree and Cassell said as much when he got the chance to watch Romo run the offense in MIA. Romo knows this offense like a man married to the same woman for 10 years knows her better than someone who just meets her. He makes the offense purr and the backups made it cough up fur balls.

So, we better acquaint ourselves with some of the DCs we'll be facing. Because this season just shifted to that. You can bet the Giants and Skins will do everything they can to stop the run and make the rookie beat them. If that works for them, the template is in place for the other teams.

Part of our game plan should have be to put the OC's in higher risk situations and give us more turnover opportunities, the difference in 2014 vs 2015. That conservative play calling last season bit us in the *** and we played not to lose. And that's the easiest way to lose.

Garrett is made of steel, he's smart, good heart, just not a very good coach yet

With the injury to Romo, it's safe to say we are going to see what Garrett is made of and what he is capable of this season.

He's just a good young rookie QB this time around, the best offensive line in the NFL, and a great set of offensive weapons.

If he goes less than 8-8 this season, no matter the circumstance, I think this might be it.

Frankly, if this team is going to start fresh with Dak in 2017, I'd like to see it down with a new coach.

Disclaimer: I know this a pre-mature thread.

Didn't we find that out last year?

If Jason doesn't adapt to Dak's style, he's going to be in trouble. We might have to let him go and get a coach who runs a West Coast offense. This is why I was praying for Andy Reid

If you don't know what Garrett is made of by now you haven't been paying attention. He is a average coach that basically knows nothing about the defensive side of the ball, and the only reason he has had any success with the offensive side is because of that guy Tony who has a broken back.

If Garret lays an egg again given the talented group he has, at the very least, the Dallas media needs to start calling him out for the poor coach he is.

Talented group? The O will be good, but this is a very bad defense. Linebackers are only good until Lee gets hurt, the starting cornerbacks the coaches will out or there week 1 haven't had a pick in years, we have no pass rush, and one potentially competent cover safety.

I'm not defending Jason, but the fallacy way too many people believe is that the Cowboys are talented.

In 2008, the Ravens went to the AFC Title game with a rookie QB, rookie RB, new C and a new LT.

If they can do it, we can too! Right guys? Hip-hip-hooray!
And one of the best defenses of the era. If we had that D, I'd give us a chance.

Agree...Franchise as a whole is top heavy. Jerry has to have a few stars to peddle this mess.

wait a minute on the prediction thread well before this new info came out there were several people predicting 8/8 thinking Romo was the QB
now if Garrett doesn't go 8/8 he should lose his job?

A vanilla 1 read and dump off plan will kill this kid for good. They need to turn him lose and open up more read option. There isn't much film on him and that alone may be able to steal a couple of games early on. Just running Zeke to death is what everyone will prepare for. A penalty here or stuff there and you just cede drives.

Well, buy talented group, I was actually referring to the offense. Thought it was implied. It's a given that our defense is the weak link, the O should still be able to get into the endzone fairly consistently if red knows how to utilize their talent.

Hopefully they just put their foot on the pedal. Let Dak be great (if he can). If it backfires, reign him in and dumb it down. But we've got two new explosive weapons nobody has real tape on. Let's explode
