We are not better without Dez

Dak had sub par games early in the season also, Denver comes to mine 2nd game of the season.

The Defense had Dallas down by 4 scores in the 3rd Quarter of that game and Zeke gained 8 yards on 9 carries. That game was a collective cramp, pretty hard to pin that one on Dak.

He signed a 6/45.6m extension.....that is 7.25m a year

Which paid him less than guys like Jonathan Hankins and Bennie Logan last year. Crawford is overpaid but the contract is far from an albatross.

"Don't mention reality, because it ruins my theory."

12.5mil would fill plenty of needs. There are always veteran cap casualties. Guys who can still play, but aren't living up to their contracts. Like Dez.

Cut Dez. We should have cut him last year.

It isn't "reality" to say better players will appear from cap casualities, be better than Dez and will sign here for less money. Most of the guys cut for cap reasons have already been cut and they are guys like Allen Hurns who aren't better than Dez.

Cap casualties do sign for less money. In particular, older WRs tend to go for a stick of gum. Seems like there are some every year. I've thought for years that they were one of the best buys in free agency.

And we have significant needs elsewhere to fill as well. 12.5mil is a lot of money to fill holes with cap casualties.

Dez hasn't been that good for us for the last 3 years. The guy we get is probably a little worse than Dez, but for a lot less money and we fill other holes.

Recall that we were 3-0 with Butler starting in place of Dez in 2016.

I'll be your Huckleberry. Next week, I'll post an article I will write on why being tight up against the CAP is a good thing. Watch for it.
Can't wait to read it

You don't win any awards or games for being well under the cap

You should strive to spend Cash over Cap every year

Of course teams like CLE, JAX and SF that can take 5 years off will build up a war chest but DAL doesn't take years off...... they play to make the playoffs every year and that is honorable

Yeah 10m for Donte Moncrief.......16m for Sammy Watkins....... 29m total for Ryan Grant.......16m for Jarvis Landry......18m for Mike Evans..... 14m for ARobinson........9m for MarLee.....8m for PRichardson and AWilson.......AJeffrey for 15m

Where are the deals????

12.5m is a bargain for Dez

Brice Bulter had 80 yards receiving in those three games combined. He shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence with Dez Bryant.

And "stick of gum" veterans aren't going to improve the team, we already have guys like Terrence Williams that no one bothers to double team. Putting a bunch of those WRs on the field is the surefire way to a losing record.

We have the money to keep Dez and sign whoever we want, the issue is what players are available.

I look forward to it.

Naturally it's going to depend on what "tight up against the cap" means.

Tons of dead cap on older players, mortgaging the future? Not so good.

Paying young, good players up front? That's good.

And whatever you spend, you should be getting value for the dollar. You don't spend money just to get tight up to the cap.

Since we're talking salary for Dez, value is the issue here. Is he worth 12.5mil *to us*? I don't think so. He's not worth that on the open market, and he's a bad fit *for us* besides.

It will be interesting to see what he gets if he hits the open market.

Guys, it really doesn't matter what any of us think or what any of us would do..........only what the team thinks or does.

From all indications, that includes comments by both Jerry and Stephen, it is crystal clear that the decision has been made that Dez will not be kept at his current salary for 2018. Otherwise, why is there a need to have a conversation? Why all of this talk about being accountable for your play as Stephen says? You don't make comments like this if you plan to keep a player at this current contract price. I don't hear anybody talking about needing to have a conversation with Crawford or that so-and-so needs to be accountable for his play. Only person on the roster they talk about like this is Dez.

So, it doesn't take a genius to know what is going on here. Jerry bluntly said it the other day, that with what they have on the team now, with the new WR free agent signings and "what we can work out with Dez" will make the WR core very good this year.

Ergo......a 5 yr old could tell what is going on by the way they have telegraphed this, Dez is going to be asked to take a pay cut, might be disguised as extension or something else to not embarrass him. If Dez says no, he is gone.

How about you filter that pile to the guys 29+? Let's be generous and go 28, though Dez started in the league young, and has a lot more NFL mileage on him than most his age. And has been banged up for much of the last 3 years.

Of 28+, I see Jordy Nelson as the top contract, at 7.1mil AAV, though it looks like he has two years guaranteed.

That's about the range I would think about Dez, although as I think he is worth more elsewhere, maybe someone pays him more elsewhere too. But I bet not 12.5.

I wasn't saying they were the same. I said we won with Butler and not Dez - i.e., Dez was not needed for those wins.

You Dezerters can create a million different threads all trying to put down Bryant but we are not a better team if we cut him.......PERIOD

If we can trade him and get fair value like a 3rd round pick then we could recoup some of the loss but we will still be worse in 2018 ......AHurns and DThompson are secondary pieces, not stars...... Dez is a star

And don't mention his money either....what are we going to spend it on ???..... and we can still create more space by keeping him....... just like DWare a few years ago...... we got worse as a team by cutting him....who cares if Dez is overpaid by 2-4m??? We are 6m under the cap right now

We didn't sign Mathieu or Suh or SRichardson or a real LBer.....just some more dumpster diving that feels like shopping in Beverly Hills after skipping the first 10 days of FA......don't be fooled

CFleming
JThomas
MMartin
DThompson are JAGs just like CThornton, BBell, NCarroll, SPaea

We can't afford to give away legitimate stars like Dez...... that is just plain dumb and so many Mock Fans are actually rooting for it....... Here's Your Sign

I'll go along with this, but I guarantee one thing - they will absolutely be a better team the moment Garrett is gone. THAT is what is preventing their consistent success.

You build the team from the bottom up and not from the top down

When you can tell me we have 5 better WRs than Dez then we can cut him

RIght now I don't see any better......cut NBrown or Beasley or Switzer first
I’d trade Beasley
Last year of his contract and he has some trade value. Pkg him with a couple later picks and get a second or third plus save 3 mil
As for dez I tend to agree at least this year
I hope with new receiver coach, more protection for QB and hopefully use him some in slot, put him in motion and get the ball in his hands. Seems like last year we used him like he is a 4.3 WR
His strength is his physical style so get the ball in his hands somehow other than 50/50 jump balls

I like Dez and we need to keep him. It’s up to our HC and QB to get him the ball more but those drops are killers....and there were many
