We got Lavar Edwards in a trade (conditional 7th) ***Merged***

Thanks, Mr. Snyder, for your strategy session.

....

isn't it 75% of 5th, 6th and 7th rounders are not on the team they were drafted by what would be their third season? If drafted in 2013 not on the team at the start of the 2016 season. More value can be had by adding solid veterans. I'm not talking about particularly trouble makers, think solid, average, Mackenzy Bernadeau types. We have no depth on defense, I'd love a few Mackenzy's if all it's going to cost me is a few B.W. Webbs.

Keep your fingers crossed.

Look at all the ups and downs with Rolando McClain trying to get in football shape after his layoff.

Rolando already knows the game, and he is getting in shape to play. Other teams are going to really need to watch out for him!

Sam doesn't have that quick twitch but neither did Suggs– not that Sam is on the same level as Suggs, but Sam might be the best pure-pass rusher this team can get out onto the field until Lawrence comes back.

I think I overhead same is projected as a wde.

Bernadeau also comes with a 3 million dollar cap hit. 5th-7th rounder less than 500K.

What I really do not understand is all of this forward planning to week three, week six, week nine.

We might get McClain in game shape, then Spencer and then Lawrence back.

By that point the season could very well already be over with.

I know the first part of our schedule is softer than the back half, but it seems a bit arrogant.

Just a strange strategy. Almost a set up.

JMO but those posts are merely pointing out that we should get better as the season progresses.

Him coming back had nothing to do with the surgery. He tried to play and it became clear his knee wouldn't let him. More rest doesn't regenerate cartilage.

thank you, I am so tired of that misrepresentation

So what's your strategy?

When hope is your franchise strategic plan, then that is what you sell. Hope always has the future tied to it.

It's real simple.....we start out 0-6 and then go 10-0 when the Calvary returns. ;)

So you are going to give him your Doug Free treatment?

It feels to me like he is really close to returning and is in good physical condition. That is why he is not on the PUP. He is going to miss a game or two and that is it as opposed to the 8 weeks for PUP. That is 6 or 7 extra games.

Spencer also is not the 53rd man. Williams is not on the roster because they chose to retain a FB. Byrd is not on the roster because they chose to keep 5 OT. Weems, Wetzel, and Clutts are much better scapegoats.

If he 'succeeds' then he will still be over 30 and have had microfracture surgery. I don't think it would take a blockbuster to retain him. But moreso it would mean he is providing a pass rush which is something this team desperately needs if it want to win games.
Doug Free
Anthony Spencer
Nick Hayden

Thanks for getting us to 8-8? Yipee.

Spencer was a probowler before the cartilage in his knee wore down in a spot to bone on bone. We shall see if the surgery fixed the problem or not but Free and especially Hayden are not reasonable comparisons. They do represent our worst starters on offense and defense though.

Yep.

I wouldn't be surprised that Spencer's knee problem actually started during the 2012 season.

His knee issue started in 2008, when he tore cartilage, and had it removed instead of repaired (to get back on the field quicker). This began the degeneration of the cartilage that resulted in the microfracture procedure.

I get what you're saying, but I wasn't a fan of the 2013 version of Ware which seems like Spencer's upside.

Maybe the theory is that at least one out of the 100 cheap/off the street linemen Marinelli picks out has to eventually be worth a damn.
