Yeah, it was my understanding that they thought he had enough cartilage to play on after the scope. That the reason for the early optimism by his agent was that there wasn't a lot of damage and that they thought that the blood/fluid from the surgery would pool and stay where it was needed.

We'll see and likely sooner than later. There is definitely some hoping going on here but to get this far is reasonably good news.

You're killing him for that? It's not like he's making that figure this year.

Calm down.

I will try and calm down on Spencer. But, remember, this might be the second player that has played for the Cowboys that I despise, and I regret for saying that. The first one I despised was Quincy Carter.

Guy was drafted I think last year. Had nothing more than a few tackles. At least when we bought in Selvie he was a preseason stand out with a few sacks. What's the word on Michael Sam.?

Sam doesn't have that quick twitch but neither did Suggs– not that Sam is on the same level as Suggs, but Sam might be the best pure-pass rusher this team can get out onto the field until Lawrence comes back.

They will lose a young player and all they get in return is maybe a game or two from a less than 100% Spencer. He said himself in an interview this week that he hopes to get back before game 6. It seem like a Jerry over-ruling McClay type of move to me.

Here is Spencer saying yesterday that he is at or above his benchmarks from 2012. That was when he went to the pro bowl and had 10 sacks.

If Spence comes back at 85% of himself he is instantly our best player on defense.

85% of what? The dominating player we saw for about a season or the underachiever he's been the rest of his career?

Here you guys go with this lol. He may have been a underachieving in the sacks department but IMO he was as good as advertised against everything else.

I guess in the big picture, they just have to many veteran types at DE for me. I would just prefer to keep more young guys. With Spencer active, they had 6 or 7 DEs on the cut to 53 depending on what you consider Wilber. Keeping Spencer active means losing Ryan Williams or Byrd or those types of young players. Spencer probably won't be here next season anyway. Either his knee fails or if he succeeds he'll want big money again.

It just feels like Jerry is a guy that lost money on a stock and holds onto it hoping for a return of his money someday.

He's ready to go...may see some snaps week 2, if not he's a full go for week 3.

Is that why Anthony Spencer spent all of training camp and pre-season on Active/PUP?

The team had to remove Spencer from the list today or would've missed the first six games on Reserve/PUP.

Jason Garrett said yesterday he doesn't know when Spencer will return to practice.

They expect him to ready sometime in that six week window, but no one has suggested Spencer will play against San Francisco in the opener.

No one expects him to.

So you are going to give him your Doug Free treatment?

It feels to me like he is really close to returning and is in good physical condition. That is why he is not on the PUP. He is going to miss a game or two and that is it as opposed to the 8 weeks for PUP. That is 6 or 7 extra games.

Spencer also is not the 53rd man. Williams is not on the roster because they chose to retain a FB. Byrd is not on the roster because they chose to keep 5 OT. Weems, Wetzel, and Clutts are much better scapegoats.

If he 'succeeds' then he will still be over 30 and have had microfracture surgery. I don't think it would take a blockbuster to retain him. But moreso it would mean he is providing a pass rush which is something this team desperately needs if it want to win games.

2013 5th round pick.

My crusade continues that draft picks are overvalued. Heck, look at B.W. Webb. We should be in the mindset of trading our 5th and 6th round picks every year. Good, solid starting talent can be had for these picks every single year. Santonio Holmes was worth hell of a lot more than 5th to the Steelers.

I'll definitely agree with you in that point. Spencer has every reason to get healthy as soon as possible and have a big season. As does Henry Melton. If there's any sort of benefit in counting on players returning from injury, that is it.

Thanks, Mr. Snyder, for your strategy session.
