We should have drafted an RB

No regrets here.

I was disappointed we didn't draft a running back either, but at this point, I'm tired of talking about it. We'll see whether it will hurt us or not.

But I like the direction of our team. Instead of forcing picks on skilled positions, we're investing in our lines (both offense and defense but particularly offense). I think that sends a strong message to the team that we're going to be physical and find physical players.

Besides, the league is such that the game doesn't revolve around the running game or a marquee running back anymore. I think Garrett saw how the Giants and Commanders won with powerful offensive lines and no-name, scrap-heap running backs and how the Cowboys won with their powerful offensive line (though we had a HOF running back) and wants to bring that philosophy here.

And I'm okay with that. Besides, Ezekiel Elliott and Derrick Henry will be available in the next draft, and we'll likely have the draft picks to move up to get one or the other (I expect DH to be available with the 32 pick anyway).

I wonder how Jeremy Langford is doing in Chicago?

Not taking him and taking Chaz Green instead late in the 3rd is what irks me.

4 carries for 1 yard in preseason so far.

It'll take awhile to get a real read on him, but camp reports have been "meh" so far.

I'll update my guys, too. (Just because I think it's interesting to see how players you wanted are doing.)

Baltimore's Buck Allen 11-35 (3.2 YPC) with a long of 12 yards against New Orleans. Nothing to write home about. (Taken in the fourth round)

San Francisco's Mike Davis 3-18 (6.0) with a long of 12 yards against Houston. Good numbers, but a small sample size ... we'll get to see him Sunday. (Taken in the fourth round)

Tennessee's David Cobb 11-53 (4.8) with a long of 10 against Atlanta. That's a real nice start and the long of 10 tells us that he was picking up steady yardage instead of just having one good run and a bunch of nothing ... apparently he had five consecutive carries of 6-plus yards to start the second half. (Taken in the fifth round)

Also found this on Cobb:

After being slowed by a quad injury in the offseason and early in training camp, Titans rookie running back David Cobb was happy to put the injury behind him during Friday's preseason opener against the Falcons.

Cobb totaled a team-high 53 rushing yards on 11 carries in the 31-24 loss. His first five carries went for 8, 8, 7, 6 and 6 yards, and his longest gain was 10 yards.

“I was happy I was able to hold up without a pull or an injury,” Cobb said, per the Tennessean. "It felt good to be able to be back in the game. It had been a long time, so it was fun to be out there.

“I thought the guys up front and the fullback did a great job. They allowed me to get to the second level before getting touched.”

Following his strong outing, coach Ken Whisenhunt said Cobb will earn more reps with the first-team offense.

“It’s a good feeling to be on the positive side of things for once,” Cobb said. “It’s definitely a good feeling to get pats on the back. But at the same time, you can’t let it go to your head. Whether you’re with the third or the first team, you just take it the same -- day-by-day and getting better.”

He did carry the ball A LOT though. It's somewhat to be expected.

He fumbled once every 35 carries. That is ridiculous. For perspective, that would have been 10 fumbles last year with Murrays workload

Other scrubs on that Raiders team averaged more than DMC. The Raiders sucked but so does DMC. One full season since 2008. Think about it.

Not really.

Some backups with low numbers of carries had higher averages but Joseph Randle had a 6.7 ypc last year compared to 4.7 for Demarco Murray which proves nothing.

Last season, in the final 3 games they made Lativious Murrray the starter and his average declined significantly while McFadden average as a backup in those games shot up to 5.3 ypc.

lol. That is crazy..wow.

My guess is that he'll fumble at a rate closer to Murray's at the pro level. They'll be working on him non-stop.

Meanwhile, that Lions offense is really loaded.

Give me an 1,800 yard back over a overrated *** LB. Dispute it.

1. Sean Lee signed his contract 2 years before Murray signed with the Eagles.

2. The Cowboys had cap space to sign Murray. Lee's contract didn't prevent them from signing him.

3. Lee's salary this season is only 2.5 million.

I'm not one to dwell on what ifs no matter how much I want another RB to get excited about. Season is about to start. That makes it what? 4 months? Some need to learn to let go. It is ok guys. However, things can happen from here on out. Better to talk about that rather than something already done with.

Fumble rate equalizes the issue of unequal numbers of carries.

Abdullah 1 in 35 touches

Gurley 1 in 180 touches

For reference, Murray was about 1 in 90 last season.

And one too many.....at exactly the wrong time.

Ok, let's watch Latavious Murray this year and see what his average is. I assure you he will blow away DMC.

That is highly doubtful and just meaningless speculation.

Highly doubtful that he can average more than 3.1 yards per carry. Really? Why don't we put a small bet on it? Say $20 and the loser pays via paypal at the end of the season.
