Prior to the rule change, Brady fumbled 9.4 times per season (a 5 year sample). After the rule change, he has fumbled 6.1 times per season. What you see as some sort of proof of nefarious intent, knowledgeable football fans see as just the progress of a QB getting better at ball security as a veteran than as a rookie.

How long are the rookie seasons up there in NE?

But Brady is the before and after constant. Look how New England's fumbles alone changed after the rule, when other teams' didn't.

FWIW, the league average is trending upwards. That's clear from the graph.

New England's improvements are largely because Brady fumbled much less, but the fact that Brady improved doesn't mean they were using deflated balls. This is exactly why I mentioned Romo. Romo fumbled a lot more at Texas Stadium than he has at Cowboys Stadium. Is the difference really the fact that he is not playing "indoors" where he wouldn't have been "indoors" before?

Obviously not. Perhaps the difference is a concerted effort to reduce turnovers. Is it really so hard to believe that a HoF quality QB who had a fumbling issue early in his career could work to reduce his number of fumbles? Andrew Luck has fumbled 29 times so far. Do you really think he's going to fumble 10 times per season for the rest of his career?

If you want another possible reason, perhaps Brady's OL wasn't as good early in his career as it has been in the 2nd half of his career. If you look at the 1 season he has had fumbling issues, he was sacked a lot more than he normally is.

Draw a line for each team and the shocking difference would shrink significantly. You'd also have a team that is far and away the worst, which I guess could only indicate that they've been playing with over-inflated footballs the whole time.

Excellent point.

Simple fact is that over the past 15 years, the Patriots have been far and away the best, most successful team in the league. They've been to 6 Super Bowls, twice as much as their next highest team(s). They've won 4 Super Bowls, twice as much as the next highest team(s). They have won their division 12 of the past 14 years - and in the 2 years they didn't win it, they were tied with the division winner and lost on tie breakers.

I doubt there is a single (important) statistic anyone can come up with where the Patriots are not at or near the top.

Brady should be suspended at least half a season and Belicheck at least the entire season. It's about the pattern of behavior the Pats have had in recent years with spygate that should play a role into this.

Pete Rose was far worse. Tom Brady will be marred for his career because of this though. Although the real culprit is the head coach.
