Video: We've seen Romo deliver plenty of these type of games Dak just had, yet doesn't get the same grief?

Eli Manning is a terrible quarterback. that said, he has two Super Bowls to his name. So I agree with your statement to a degree. A stout defense can overcome a mediocre offense. If a mediocre offense can make just enough plays to win the game

And the years Manning did it, the Giants' defense elevated to championship level and the running game got going. This is one of the things that gives me hope as I think Dak is a better QB than Manning even though Manning had his moments.

This game should have been deja vu for many of us.
As great as the D has played for 3 quarters, I had that same old pit in my stomach as I knew they were gonna let the Eagles continue to score until it came down to who had the ball last. We've seen this same movie before.

Romo has delivered these type of games over the years... bad to mediocre for a few quarters, then ball out in the 4th to win it or score then watch the defense let the opposition walk down the field and win it.
Dak played poorly but didn't put his head down. He stood tall and played with guts. He's a work in progress but the kid has a moxy/clutch gene that very few have, even those with more physical talents.

We deify Romo but seem to forget the numerous games that he had that were carbon copies of tonight.
Remember these?

(Look at these awful INT throws.)

(The "Witten tackling a cheerleader" game.)

Dak has another yr left on his rookie contract. He's frustrating as heck sometimes but let's hope and see if the guy can get better. No, he's not the passer Romo became (and didn't benefit from sitting 4 years behind veterans) but its possible he can tweak some things in his game to become better.

The vitriol around here is ridiculous. The same way we defended Romo from outside critics is the same way some of us are defending Dak from his own fanbase. Sad.

Romo was in the position of having to be more aggressive then was safe because he spent so much time on teams with poor defenses. The difference here is that Dak makes throws that cause one to question whether he is capable of throwing the ball necessary for an NFL QB. That was never the case for Romo.

I will say that Dak comes through when the mental pressure mounts. He has shown that repeatedly already in just this short time.

Maybe, I wasn't clear.
Romo received "grief" from some Cowboys fans but most of his criticism was from pundits, outside media, and other teams fans.
There absolutely were folks around here who thought Romo was a choker but most of us defended him and pointed out how he was mainly
the reason we were competitive over the years despite some lackluster teams.

I defended Romo and now Dak because I'm a Cowboys fan, not a Romo/Dak stan.
Sure, I want more accurate consistency from Dak and overall QB improvement. But I see some tools here that we can work with.
Franchise QBs don't grow on trees. Some franchises have wasted years and draft capital trying to chase one.

People complained about Romo constantly despite him having the highest 4th quarter rating and more come from behind wins than any other active quarterback before he retired.

Please, stop trying to prop up Dak at the expense of Romo and vice versa. It’s great for exposing the football idiots around here, but it does both men a disservice.

Romo received grief from like 5 people, me being one of them. Dak receives grief from thousands of idiots. I'm not going to rain down on a young QB who's learning and getting better until he's all grown up and still declining.

Yes, he was. Every I-N-T, every bonehead play, every time he couldn't escape and got sacked...he got crucified.

Some of it was warranted, some not....such is life.

And of course Romo fumbled a lot inside the pocket as well, because like Dak, he was always trying to 'make a play' instead of just throwing the ball away.
Yes, I know. Thought I laid the sarcasm on pretty thick. Of course the world we live in now it's tough to tell anymore.

tony's history now. makes for great reading. is jared goff a bust again after last nights game with the bears. was kirk cousins wasted money now that Minnesota's all but out of the race for the big dance? how about carson wentz. it is human nature to complain. it's one of the major consequences of having developed speech. Bradford signed by Arizona for big bucks and then released him. I've vascillated on dak. I like him now. sue me.

It's 2018 not 2009 why do the Dak groupies still bring up expletive from a decade ago. Is Romo or Dak the current qb? Since we all know the answer why do we keep this Romo business going?
I'm not sure why, but it seems to me that no matter who the QB is here, the same miserable group will find something to bash the QB about. You can get rid of Dak and bring in any QB, doesn't matter who, the "pit of misery" group will whine and complain about him no matter what.

It's what they do!

lol. Crazy how cowboys fans are salty after pretty much clinching the division and winning 5 straight just because their hatred for dak runs so DEEP.

Why do people assume that because people think Dak can/should play better, or that Romo was better than Dak = we hate Dak? That's nowhere near the case.

Man, someone must've tied on a 10 year drunk to not remember the grief Romo caught.

Yeah I totally see your point on this one. It’s pretty obvious how Tony Romo was universally beloved by the Cowboys fan base. I’m sure we all remember it. Lololol

I do think we've entered some kind of phase where memories seem to be fading about how badly fans treated Romo.

Funny thing is that he routinely had games where he had three-plus TDs, but hardly ever had a defense that could bail him out when he made mistakes so every mistake was magnified.

I actually created a post about exactly this sometime past. It was an admittedly cherry picked slate of games, but it was nine or 10 games out of Romo‘s career in Dallas.

And in those nine or 10 select games, Romo had ridiculous numbers. Average like 280 yards per game plus, completed close to 70%, threw for something like 27 touchdowns against only three interceptions or something like that

His rating in those games was astronomically high. And the Cowboys lost every single one of those games. Everyone of them

If I can I will dig those numbers up and post them again just for kicks but either way just throwing this out there to let you know your assessment is 100% accurate. And the funny thing was in many of those games a lot of fans made Romo the goat for the loss

I think the difference is that Romo was a great QB so much was expected. Dak is not a great QB, so whenever he throws a TD pass its almost like an overachievement and everyone is thrilled.

Yeah kind of like a mom who buys ice cream for her nine-year-old because he finally stopped wetting the bed

Romo is the only reason we got to 8 wins in any one season. His OL stunk. The defenses he was paired with stunk. Yet, somehow, he managed to pull out numerous victories that should have been a loss. If we were to lose Dak tomorrow, we would still compete with Cooper Rush. Romo kept us from getting a high draft pick each year. Dak doesn't do that. If Romo had Zeke and this defense we would be pushing for the SB each and every year. Romo threw people open (Dez, anyone?). Dak misses wide open receivers regularly.

It is a shame we wasted the career of a great football player.
It's funny how people forget that Romo did have some very good teams around him earlier in his career. He did have 3 All Pro OLineman when he started his career, we did have a few good defenses as well, 2nd ranked at one point giving up even less points than this years squad. We did have a good rushing attack, not a single RB as good as Zeke, but a very strong committee at the time. He also had a young Witten, when he was a true All Pro. The fact is the talent was there, but those teams underachieved. I liked Romo and yes he pulled out victories that should have been losses, but he also turned some victories into losses with untimely turnovers too. Romo didn't miss open WRs too often, but he did try to throw into bad situations too. Maybe it's recency bias or just good old days syndrome, but people tend to forget that part of Romo's career.

This is why the Romo thing keeps coming up.

Romo would be forced to win games despite the team.
Recently, the team has been winning games despite Dak.

Yep. Aaron Rodgers could arrive in Dallas, and if he didn't win consistently, he'd become just another "bust" for us Cowboys fans...didn't do enough, an in-grate, a waste of money.

Hec, Troy won 3 SBs, and we hate on him for being nothing but a "bus driver" of a great team....it's who we are. Secretly, most of us only really liked Staubach as a QB, every other QB had so many performance and/or character flaws that we bash them ad nauseum.

So, for Dak, it's par for the course. It's a no-win situation, because even when they do win, it's with a "but, but...he couldn't win without that defense, or that great running game". Oh well.
