I don't understand why some people can't enjoy the game. I am thrilled I don't think like many of these guys, and beyond thrilled I would never have to count on some of them in a fight of any kind. Had I ever played with or been coached by someone as spineless as some of our fans come across I might have tried to injure them on purpose. I have no respect for cowardice, and sadly our fans are great at it.
The mentality that the offseason is better than the games is certainly foreign to me. I completely understand the frustration and disappointment--I'm sharing it right now. But there's still a context. If the team loses for a specific reason, let's focus on addressing that specific reason. If we've shown over 14 weeks we can beat bad teams and lose to good ones, there's a good bet we'll continue to do so. It is what it is, and the only question is how to maintain objectivity during the long season and how to cope with the losses none of us ever want to see. Coping with losses by turning on the team and expressing such an abundance of dislike for the coaches and players and management is an alien concept to me. If I ever got to the point where I thought it was futile, I'd gradually just lose interest and I'd follow the team less avidly. I can't imagine getting as upset or disgusted as some fans appear to get and still remaining emotionally involved.
In some ways, I guess, that's a testament to their fanhood. I don't like reading the emotional overreactions, but that's a personal thing for me and not a value judgment on anybody. I do agree, I'd prefer not to be in a foxhole with anybody losing their heads every time the expected happens. At this point, I think we all ought to know what's expected when we're playing pass defense against teams who can throw.
Yep.
Blame the fans.
And never the people who are actually responsible for it.
stash, you're commenting on Hos' post here, and not mine, but for the sake of clarity on my part, the two issues are completely separate in my book. I hold the team responsible for it's shortcomings and the fans responsible for what I think are silly overreactions to those shortcomings. There's no doubt the organization bears responsibility.
By the same token, the year is not over yet, and we do still control our own destiny for the time being. We can save the blaming for whenever they're actually eliminated. I know some people want to get a head start, but you can hardly blame the rest of us for just wanting to watch the division race against a hated rival.
