I will be protecting this great nation of ours from terrorists, drug smugglers and illegal aliens, so the rest of you can enjoy the Dallas Cowboys season opener, free of worry.............

I'll be at work sitting behind my desk with my door closed, the blinds shut. I will then open the closet door, where I have a 27 inch TV hidden away. I will tell everyone that I am working on important stuff and not to bother me unless it is urgently necessary.

Not much will get accomplished on this day.........but what the heck.

I'm having a real difficult time trying to think of any singer who I would miss a Cowboys game for.

Nope, can't think of one.

Neither can I. But the tickets are bought and the plans are made -- and you just don't tell your wife "no, I can't tape the 2nd half because, well, because that would suck."

not even worth mentioning -- just part of a package we get at the university each year - mostly symphony, aging jazz legends, world music, and "hip" bands that get played on NPR stations. Usually I dig that - although it is often way too polite and old person-y. You have to buy your season tickets in June or July -- and I totally forget to check the schedule.

I love these threads, and if someone wants to go ahead and start a game day recipe thread, count me in. I'm always looking for tailgate and game day recipes.

Here's my Sunday (every Sunday the Cowboys' play)

6AM: Wake up early because I can't sleep.

7AM: Kids are up, everyone gets their jerseys on and gets ready to go. Even the wife. We'll probably go with the blue jerseys this week.

8AM: Head to my parents' house for a huge family breakfast, pancakes, sausage, eggs, home fries, etc. If breakfast is at home I mash blueberries into the pancakes to make them blue, but I have Eagles' fans in my family, so that's a non-starter at my parents' house.

9AM: Throw the football around the backyard with my son, read the Sunday sports section, and usually argue with my brothers about the game.

10AM: Go home, start marinating the buffalo wings (just salt, pepper, cayenne and olive oil)

11AM: Watch the Sunday morning football shows, set my fantasy football lineup

12 noon: Put the wings on the grill, pick the games I'm going to watch (three TV's in my home theatre room), make sure the beer is chilled.

1PM until I crash: Watching football with the kids, eating and drinking until I can't move, talking trash on IM with buddies (yeah, I'm a bit of a sports nerd), checking scores to see if I won my $1 football pool

just a heads up, you probably wanna set that up before Thursday night's game.

hello da fan..what's happening?

i'll be drinking heavily i'm sure...nice to see the boys with an opener at home for a change.

i'm more than a little worried about t- new.....but i think the rest of the defense realizes his situation and will do their thing.

i made this yesterday and everyone should try it.......it's supergood!!

lane's cream of meat with rice

2 lbs. ground round

1 diced onion

i can cream of mushroom soup

1 can cream of celery soup

kraft velveeta shreds

2 cups minute rice

salt and pepper

tony's creole seasoning

brown ground round, salt, pepper, onions and creole seasoning in a skillet..

drain fat..

stir in both soups with the beef mixture and as much water as needed to get a nice creamy texture..

add as much of the cheese you prefer and stir really good.

prepare the minute rice.

pour this meat concoction over rice and serve with your fave vegetable on the side and look out!!

i would recommend steamed broccoli, green beans or spinach.

this was so good and easy.

Hey Lane...

Sounds darn good.

I will surely have to try it. Thanks.

Grill the burgers in garlic butter with onions. Use the suateed onions instead of just regular sliced variety. Use real hamburger instead of pre-pressed variety. Add some Worchestershire sauce, salt, and pepper to the meat.

Don't buy generic hamburger buns. Use a kaiser roll with poppy seeds or a sourdough dinner roll or some other form of bread for the buns.

Monterrey Jack, pepperjack, real swiss cheese, or some other kind of spicy cheese. No pre-processed slices and no cheddar. Got to give it a new flavor.

Instead of plain mustard use a deli mustard. It's worth the price for the new flavor they will experience.

Romaine lettuce.

Clausen dill slices instead of a generic pickle slice.

Good tomatos. Be picky.

Lastly if your guests like it, a splash of guacamole.

Good eats.

Use Ground Sirloin!!!

I'm busting out the smoker for the first time in a couple of months and doing up a few racks of smoked baby back ribs.

My rub:

(estimated)
Brown sugar 2 cups
Ground Peppr 2 tblsp
Kosher salt 2 tblsp
Garlic Powder 2 tblsp
Lawry's Season-All 2 tblsp

Brine the ribs for a couple of hours to get them extra tender, remove the membrane from the back side of the ribs, rub em down and let them come to room temp. Fire up a nice pile of lump charcoal, bring the smoker to about 180, and toss the ribs in. Then walk away and let em cook, no peeking. The brown sugar crisps up a bit on the outside, while the smoke penetrates and tenderizes the meat on the inside.... oh baby.

Right now, Pain killers and heating pads. I threw out my back Sat but hoping things will improve before Sunday.

Dooms, get someplace where you can take a Cox-2/painkiller shots and be done with it. It's well worth the effort.

Start with the cheapest hamburger you can find, the higher the fat content the better. Mix with any dry soup or dressing/dip packet. There's more than just onion soup mix or Hidden Valley Ranch out there if you look. Dry bacon/ranch makes for incredible burgers.

Treat it like a quality steak - let it air, rise to room temperature....

Brush with olive oil then place on an extremely high heat grill, quickly searing in the flavor. Move to low heat to finish. Never ever ever pat you burger with a spatula and always remove from the grill about a minute before you think it's going to be done as the cooking process will continue even after your burger is removed from the heat source.
