I quoted the articles. lol

If you are looking for details about the negotiation in the articles, there isn't much of that, but that's not uncommon because the media isn't present for the negotiation and nobody from the two sides is providing a blow by blow account of the negotiation. Even when they do report something from "sources", they prove to be wrong much of the time, and we never know how much, if any, is credible.

But since you questioned whether there was a negotiation last year based on the notion the media wasn't reporting on it, it is fair to point out that every one of those articles indicates there was a negotiation last year.

And, again, you admitted yourself to reading an article where Jerry talks about the negotiation, and he thought it was going well. Are you suggesting Jerry was lying about that?
It was widely accepted as fact at the time.

Tag him twice. 2 years top 5 money. See how well him and McCarthy work together.
Tagging him next season will cost the team an estimated $38M. Is paying Dak almost $70M this year and next just to see how well he and McCarthy work together, a good idea?

The huge majority of fans think he should sign for $34 mil/season or less. Dak should take note.

so one year is the sticking point. yeah, right sounds like they are not sold 100 percent on him.

How can anyone live on 25-29 million?

Beats being married to him for 4 if the first 2 don’t go well. This way he gets 2 years at top 5 pay and then a big contract here or elsewhere!

That would be equal to the rumored 35M a season so what have they lost?

The Skins did that with Cousins and that worked out OK except that when he yelled "how do you like me now" at them, they decided they didn't.

Why would the Cowboys want the extra year if they weren't sold on him?

Yep, don't get the furor over not having him signed long term. He's not going to show up for 31.4M this season and 38M next, if they tag him back to back?

The one possible fly in the ointment on that is the unknown effect on the cap if this season is altered.

I would have stopped all negotiations after tagging him with an agreement to re-visit this after this season.

I think they should go with 4 years at $35 million/year, and $110 million guaranteed, and with that at least a handshake deal that Dak will be open to restructuring in a year or two if cap space is needed.

You say that as if it is the only alternative. It ignores the alternative choice to not enter into this expense in the first place.

It's not as if Dak is a rookie with no background for McCarthy to judge from, and it's not as if McCarthy is going to have his QB start doing backflips and blind throws and all sorts of things that he hasn't seen Dak do before.
