I mean anything is possible
It’s a win win
If he works out and cowboys are successful !! Then woohoo
If he’s the bum many think he could be then the naysayers can celebrate too - with a bunch of I knew it’s and I told you so

Ultimately it’s still same old same old
Wash rinse repeat
A sprinkle of luck and tweaks could lead to more wins when it matters
But we will see

What if Brian really is the right guy, with the help of Eberflus. Who many fans wanted to be promoted to DC and then HC.
Eberflus can bring a toughness to the defense. As he did in Indy and Chicago. That can help the offense and they need it.
How about no because he’s been an OC for 15 years and he’s only had ONE top ten offense ever .
Maybe that’s why he’s not the right guy .
That being said Bill Walsh in his prime couldn’t win with Dak a QB who has the biggest cap hit in the NFL and literally zero ability to push through in the playoffs even with loaded rosters .
This organization is in a death spiral .

He might actually be okay as a HC... problem is, we'll never know with the dysfunctional Jones circus in place. He's not even allowed to pick his own assistant coaches.

Jerry and Stephen think they're the head coaches. BS is just a glorified OC who gets to hold press conferences.
This narrative is wrong ,just like 75% of the narratives that are made-up by fans, the word tank just to name a few, you are not in those interviews ,and by the way when a man gets interviewed two straight days at 5 hours a clip when they do 10 hours worth of interviews,

you know what part of that interview was,

" hey Brian ,who would you like as your coordinators and to fill out your staff should you be hired here as a head coach ,write down your list that way we can research if they're available and start the process of negotiating contracts for those that might be available, that's on your list.."

you cannot refute that,

that's not what happened that Brian Schottenheimer did have a list, now we don't know if they're going to fulfill it because we don't know who's available, who will take the job, but I guarantee Schottenheimer gave them a list and they will figure out if they can....or not and who could be the alternate..

Please don't come at me with that you know different because you weren't there you weren't in the interview, you haven't talked to either actual party directly,

but here's how I know this is a bunch of ridiculous narratives because they hate never stops and I'm not saying I agree with the higher but it's already done I'm like jazz we are already here it's too late football season's gonna happen with or without you or with or without the negative opinions so I might as well see what happens and then we can comment we need a year or two to see how this works out.

Let me give you what happened when Mike McCarthy was hired he picked his staff 100, literally everyone says Kellen Moore was forced on him but he hired Mike Nolan, that's a fact, but I know that Mike has already said that Kellen Moore almost left for Boise State and I called him up and said hey I want you to stay they convinced Moore to stay, yes, they this is a democracy here one person is not making all the decisions Jerry Jones and Mike McCarthy agreed that at the time Kellen Moore was the answer at offensive coordinator...

you may not like that answer because you wanna hate on Jerry but that is a fact...

But hey I'll give you some latitude,

what if Moore was forced on Mike McCarthy, I know Mike Nolan wasn't,

so, here's Mike Nolan Mike McCarthy 100% hired Mike Nolan who was one of the worst defensive coaches we've ever had here historically bad jerry had to step in fire him pay the rest of his contract and hire dan quinn.. Then Mike McCarthy decides he wants to do the play calling which he has all the right to do and guess what Jerry allowed that to happen didn't he he didn't make Kellen more stay here he didn't force Mike McCarthy to keep Moore, because if he did Moore would still be here and he'd probably be the head coach right now,

that is why I know what I'm saying holds more truth than you what you're saying....

So from where I'm sitting Jerry's choices were Moore if you want to believe that and Dan Quinn versus Mike McCarthy and Nolan, what pair would you like and don't say none of the above? I'm saying that if those were Jerry's choices Jerry made the proper choices IMHO Mike didn't, so you can allow your head coach at first to pick his coordinators but it didn't work out your GM will step in and make the decision as well as the owner and since they're one in the same he had a right to do so when Mike McCarthy's buddy Mike Nolan couldn't get it done then he had to step in and when Mike McCarthy couldn't get it done as an offensive coordinator or the head coach to a lesser degree than Jerry has a right to step in and make it happen..

I know people in here want to stick to the narratives that all are anti Jerry and anti-ownership and anti whatever you want to do with the Cowboys you could plug it all in because that's the popular thing to do!!

I'm telling you common sense plays out here and it's not much different than when you have your owner fire the GM because they couldn't agree on who to hire Yep with the Jaguars literally fired his GM just so he can get his way I mean isn't that what Jerry said he's just cutting that out because he's gonna make most of the decisions anyway that he doesn't need a separate GM because he will just counterman them anyway and that is what happens with other teams as well yes some GM's have more power for a longer amount of time but I'm telling you right now when the owner decides he wants to go in a direction the GM doesn't the owner will win every time...

Eberflus can bring a toughness to the defense. As he did in Indy and Chicago. That can help the offense and they need it.

All fans wanted a younger HC, that could relate to the players better. Be somewhat innovative. Not saying that Schotty is that person.
But he is not a retread coach that many did not want anyway (but yet they complain Jerry did not go after any of them). Yes other candidates were out there. This seemed rushed all of a sudden after what seemed like Jerry was dragging his feet about it all.

But who are we fans to say who would be better, though we think we know. Moore? What qualifies Ben Johnson over anyone else, other than he actually has called plays with success for Detroit. But HC material, none of us knows. Carroll, Zimmer, Chucky?

I am not a big fan of this move. I did not like the way the FO went about this. We known their failures for years now. We will see how serious they are come FA to see if they are willing to actually improve the roster. Or is all of this for nothing, again.

I know what the answers and posts will be. Same old stuff that has been repeated 100 times in every thread.

So fellow Zoner's, here is a challenge. Think outside of that box in your head, and think ... what if he can be innovative and was held back by MM ...
Heres the thing for me.

JJ is sitll going to run it.

Can Brian really get his own staff? thats the third problem. If he cant, its doomed.

Can Brian stop the bleeding? penalties on offense

WIll The OC picked be able to find the end zone? this is also important.

Will the offensive line coach know his job?

The big questions, how much does JJ interject his loser mentality and how much does Stephen sit by and say Well hes Daddy

Dallas has issues otehr franchies do not have

Let’s be honest
No guarantee on ANY incoming coach
It’s like buying a new car
You can buy the top of the line best rated top dollar car and drive it down the road and it still can be a lemon
You can buy the lowest rated no one wants yugo and it can also be the same piece of junk

It’s all window dressing and only time will ultimately prove one way or another

I'm actually right there with you. The process was garbage, but that doesn't mean Shotty aint the guy for the job. None of us know that. We do know we haven't seen his offense in Dallas as yet. We don't know how much he's evolved since he last ran an offense. He's said that his primary job in '97 was to watch other teams and determine what his team could implement from things he saw on tape. Is it hard to believe he might see what's going on with the succesful offenses around the league the last few years and try to impllement those things? Could be hope, but who knows. I'm here for the ride, and I know I'd much rather he prove evryone wrong than right.

Let's go!!!!

Sounds like the Plan for Chokota. Click your heels and pray your in Kansas.

Put the Bong down !! This coach hire blows as much as Chokota as our QB1.

While I have had it with Jerry Jones, for some reason I am not as mad about Schotty as a lot of fans are. Let me list a few thoughts:

1. No matter who Dallas hired, I doubt fans here would be united and supportive of the choice. Be real. Never happening.

2. I went back and looked at Schottenheimer's rosters when he was OC in the past. His Seattle offenses were actually pretty good. He had middling success with the Jets with average personnel but they were a contender when he was there. He had no shot when he was with the Rams as the teams there were bad. When he was QB's coach for the Chargers way back in 2005, Drew Brees had a breakout season.

3. In the 2007-10 timeframe a lot of NFL teams thought Schottenheimer deserved a chance at a head coaching spot. As Ian Rapaport said the other night, Schotty is still the same guy, except now he has years and years of added experience.

4. He already knows the personnel and the inner workings of coaching here. And he didn't call plays under McCarthy, who was stubborn and set in his ways. Schottenheimer just might bring some new and fresh ideas to the table.

I know this is a hire that screams "Jerry Puppet" and I totally get it. I just want to venture out a limb here and say this is also a hire that just might be crazy enough to work.

Note I said "might be".

You know what ......right after the season I said any coach hired by Jerry for 2025 and so on will one mandate..........protect and get the most out of his three largest contracts on the team( Dak Lamb and Parsons ). Jerry want his return on investment and he doesn't have time to wait 5 years. This is why an outsider he's never worked with had no chance ( risk 1-2 years understanding each other ). It's not hard to see why this came down to Schotty and Eberflus IMO. Think ....Dak's $60m, Lamb's $40M and Parsons's $35-40M and how cheap Jerry is (lol)
Sure, but the fact is Shott was on nobody's radar. Why not just keep MM who probably would have taken a 4 year deal. I don't think he walked b/c he wanted 5 and they offered 4. None of it makes sense or implies they had any kind of coherent plan.

It also speaks volumes that it seems nobody wants McCarthy now either. He interviewed with Chicago but then they hired Ben Johnson without an interview. While MM could still get the Saints job it looks like they are waiting for the Bills' season to end and go for their OC Joe Brady.
