What if Brian Schottenheimer really is the right guy

On a optimistic side, my hope is Schott will place a much stronger emphasis on pushing the ball downfield vertically.

- No more on these damn " stop and comeback " pass designs per McCarthy. Big Mac did not care to scheme speedster WR Brandin Cooks, - use him much more as a possession guy than
a splash speed guy. Just Totally wasted his skill set.

- Also Hope to see/scheme the RBs into the pass game much more

- Ditto for TE Jake Ferguson who also was mis-schemed & mis-used -.. Zero TDs ??!! .. C'mon.

- We'll have to see how Schott is as a new schemer, just as we definitely will as a new HC.

Skins fans hated the Quinn hire at the time, but are fine with it now.

Skins hired Quinn as the last guy available and also gave him a lowball (3 years I think) contract. This was after being aggressive to get Adam Peters (not a long process, got out in front, "top people have options", and payed him what he wanted...there was some long negotiation on the $$$).

You never know...

Who did this?
Making things up?
No it’s an example of your logic taken to its logical conclusion. If the argument is that it’s not wrong because he could be a good coach then logically 5 7th round picks is more valuable than a 1st because now you have 5 players who “could” be good instead of 1.

What if Brian really is the right guy, with the help of Eberflus. Who many fans wanted to be promoted to DC and then HC.
Eberflus can bring a toughness to the defense. As he did in Indy and Chicago. That can help the offense and they need it.

All fans wanted a younger HC, that could relate to the players better. Be somewhat innovative. Not saying that Schotty is that person.
But he is not a retread coach that many did not want anyway (but yet they complain Jerry did not go after any of them). Yes other candidates were out there. This seemed rushed all of a sudden after what seemed like Jerry was dragging his feet about it all.

But who are we fans to say who would be better, though we think we know. Moore? What qualifies Ben Johnson over anyone else, other than he actually has called plays with success for Detroit. But HC material, none of us knows. Carroll, Zimmer, Chucky?

I am not a big fan of this move. I did not like the way the FO went about this. We known their failures for years now. We will see how serious they are come FA to see if they are willing to actually improve the roster. Or is all of this for nothing, again.

I know what the answers and posts will be. Same old stuff that has been repeated 100 times in every thread.

So fellow Zoner's, here is a challenge. Think outside of that box in your head, and think ... what if he can be innovative and was held back by MM ...
I appreciate the post Jazz.

All we can do is hope things workout some way.

You can say "what if" about anyone. But what I hear you saying is that you have hope/belief that Jerruh saw something in Schotty that no other team is/was aware of and even with his extensive experience no one bothered to call him as a candidate for their openings. Jerruh is that you?

I never said that. Of course 5 could be better than 1, but 5 - 7ths, no, especially if that 1st is a top notch QB coming out of college.
You are trying to compare apples and oranges.

As can the bears HOPE Johnson is the right guy. How many coaches have they been through now, how has their playoff success been, how long since they even sniffed the playoffs with any success?

Jerry seen familiarity in Schotty. And we all know that. But still....we will not know for a while.

Well, he's been fired from every coordinator's job he's had, so I'm thinking he may not be my first choice.

There we go, always need those dreamers. Now, start the Superbowl chants as far too many each season

And there we go, always continued negativity. No SB chants. Far from that. Just a simple question asked.

It’s actually perfectly apt.

You have a guy who has all the tape that shows him to be great, all the research shows him to be great, and everyone around his previous team agrees he is great and is set up to be great. What I am describing is both Ben Johnson and what you would say about a top 10 first round pick.

On the other hand you have a guy who has generally struggled. He has small snippets of success but nothing you can really look at and say he will be the guy in the big job. That is how you think of both a day 3 pick and the Cowboys new coach.

The fact that they didn’t even try for any of the more qualified candidates says that they cared about being cheap first and foremost.

Here's what I found on his scheme https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nf...ad-coaching-job/ar-AA1xQsQs?ocid=BingNewsSerp:

As for what fans might expect, perhaps his time in Seattle paints a clearer picture, which is why I reached out to analytics expert and known Seahawks connoisseur Ben Baldwin for his insight on Schottenheimer's scheme.

"He will probably call too many run plays, but one advantage of this is that his belief that the run game sets up play action leads him to use play action a lot," Baldwin told A to Z Sports. "I would say that there were times that he was more effective at getting Russell Wilson to play in structure than a lot of his other OCs have been, but this came and went at times."

Schottenheimer's running game is likely to center around inside zone concepts, which is what's been run in Dallas for years now while the passing game will likely resemble the Air Coryell/West Coast offense that's become familiar for the Cowboys.

i'm gonna root like crap for him,i tell ya that.
it's the least i can do for a cornelius.

This is an interesting read on his offense: https://www.si.com/nfl/seahawks/new...one-of-the-nfls-best-designed-passing-attacks.

Granted, it's just a snapshot.

There is no "right guy".

Because Jerry.

Jerry.

When you think some assistant coach might make a difference....remember, Jerry.

When you think some draft pick, or Free Agent is just the right ingredient....Jerry.

When there's some early September win next year....Jerry. When hope sneaks in during some October win...and you feel like growling....Jerry.

Remember...Jerry.

Always Jerry.

Nothing else matters.

Only Jerry.

I'm sorry....but the reality is...Jerry. Nothing else.

They cared about familiarity first. I do not like how they went about this entire process. Then again are we surprised. They didn't do much when the hired MM either.
They are lazy to do any real research on the best hire.
I can care less about the contract.

Yeah I'm sure the Cowboys are just way smarter than the other 31 teams out there.

This is the best we can hope for....I'm all for looking ahead. That's why the windshield is bigger than the rear view window.
