Tony is not coming back, too risky, he has a family to think about and has plenty of money.

I am not a QBR guy. When a high QBR rating ='s playoff wins, then it will matter.

Passer rating differential is the leading indicator in winning.

I've noticed all the Sportsbooks have taken Cowboys future prop bets offline for now. I may throw down on that.

I've let this sink in a bit and I've decided that this may be a weird blessing. #1 This gives Dak and the rest of the team some time to prepare and rally around Dak as opposed to a likely Romo injury during the season #2 This avoids the inevitable weird dynamic of any Romo struggles and pressure to see Dak. I can't even believe I typed that but I honestly felt like the promise and upside of Dak could have loomed somehow with Romo starting. To be clear, a healthy Romo should by all means be the guy but things could have been weird especially if Romo didn't play well. #3 Everyone else may play better to help Dak. #4 We'll be forced to run the ball. Our strength #5 For better or worse Dak has no "demons" or "warts" yet and he may infuse new life?

What if Dak starts the season 6-2?

Honestly this may be a blessing in disguise. I never thought this team would contend because I have said all along I didnt think Romo lasted the year. However it gives the team a chance to see what they have in Dak. If the scouts were right and he is a two then fine because they need a two. If the scouts were wrong and he is for example a top 15 QB, then they cash a lottery ticket on a 4th round pick. I see it as a no lose situation.

Nice post.

I've already heard Jerry say if they got it right they don't have to look for a QB high and can concentrate on other things, which is a crazy line of thinking regardless.

If we want to be in playoff contention and possibly beyond, don't let Romo back in (pun intended).

He won't. My gosh you guys are insufferable. Really need to tap the brakes. 4-4 at best IMO but I'd love to be wrong. Real defenses in real games will be an eye opener for all the delusional fans out there. Pre season for God sakes...

That would be great!!! Heck why 6-2 why not 8-0? I see no problem, he is the future!

If Dak starts the season 6-2 and is playing well he remains the starter. Rimo has not played much so the last thing we need is to rush him back and see a Carolina Panthers disaster. It's that simple.. Dak plays well he stays it's just that simple.
But it's not.

Regardless of how Dak plays this is Romo's team. He is our franchise QB that has earned the right to come back when he is able. Dak may be the future....but this is Romo's team.

I'm with you...I don't think he SHOULD. But my gut tells me he will. Doesn't wanna go out like this. Especially if he can really help us make the playoffs. If we are 2-6, then he probably won't.

why do so many want our QB to run? I do not want Dak to be running all the time, too many injuries comes from that. Run only when neccessary. And no zone read!!! He needs to learn how to read defenses the whole field and running a zone read does not help you do that. Cam made the Broncos defense work easy becasue all he could read was half the field and they played him that way.

The idea is goofy of not putting Romo back in.

So if Witten got hurt and Swaim played well do we keep Witten on the bench effectively putting him out to pasture?

All the players appreciate the teams loyalty and understand that an injury doesn't cost a superstar their job. Especially the face of the franchise.

He MIGHT be the future...we shall see.

Correct. But one of the things that's blown me away about Dak are his drops....mainly 5 and 7 steps and his pocket presence. As we all know, the kid didn't do it at Miss. State for crying out loud. He's either very coachable, learns quickly or is a natural...or all of the above.

The minute that Tony is cleared by doctor's to play again, he is going to be in again.

I agree with this, when healthy, Tony is the starter on this team unless Dak is having on an MVP type season or if they have one of the best records in the league, otherwise Romo is back in.

First things first. The team will rely on the run game which is a good thing. We can win a lot of games pounding the rock.

Second Dak has shown the commitment to throw it to dez and let him make him a play. I think sometimes we read too many progressions when dez is simply better than anyone on the field.

Third Dak has shown an ability to pick up some yards with feet and get down. He also seems very cool under pressure.

Look for Elliot and Morris to get a lot of touches and that is a good thing

Get your diapers ready!

DFWJC only wants to win if Romo is the one guiding the ship(and he's ready to go down with that Romo led ship). If this team is 6-2(and they will be), it would be moronic to bench Dak or any QB, especially if they're playing at a high level.

I like T. Williams, if Butler starts to out perform him, I'll treat Williams like never knew him! I have no attachment to players, I want to win!

Yeah I have no love for Williams somebody takes his spot so be it
It'll be sweet if we have that first pick next year to spend on a monster DL
in that scenioro we should do the Browns/Titan move and trade out for a ton of picks and get out monster DE plus

Romo gets his starting position again and Dak goes to the bench.
Sorry but that's the reality of it and that's the way it should be.

I respect your statement it's a honor thing.
The news leaves me in the shock point now
and i dont know the smart move honestly.
But I'm convinced Dak is the future.
I dont want to get into another [evidence] pissing contest
its just my feelings at the late breaking news

One of the more interesting posts in this thread...

So much better than the "Romo should retire/shouldn't play again" which quite frankly are meaningless.

Agree with point #1... Heck of a lot better it happening now rather than in week 2 for example. The offensive coordinator can focus on those plays/schemes "Dak-friendly" as opposed to trying to stick with the "Romo-friendly offense".

True on point #2. Can you imagine what would happen if this offense struggled under Romo in the first game or two? And you're right a healthy Romo IS THE starter.

#3. Yep, I gotta think the team is much more behind him than Weeden or Cassel. Do I have proof of that? No, but I do have that feeling. I think most of the team knew Weeden was a dunce and wasn't going to have a long leash. Cassel's arm was shot–pure & simple. The (the team) has seen this kid do some amazing things this preseason and I think they'll be on board with him.
#4 Yes, lots of running but that was the plan anyway. I think you'll see a lot more play-action than with Romo which is a good thing IMO.
#5 The team is due for dose of "excitement". The rookie pair Prescott/Elliott may give this team a level of excitement it hasn't had in a while.

Hey if Dak implodes and they lose another 12 games... They lose another 12 games and go into the 2017 draft in prime position once again. I may not like that but I can live it...

Romo being injured makes for an uncomfortable season, but also a darned interesting season. :)
