Lot of folks here that like to gatekeep what it means to be a fan of the team. Gotta shake your pom poms and kick your legs in synch with the rest of them or you're not a true fan.The Cowboys are tied for the conference's best record, there's a game Sunday, and folks spent all day creating an 11 page thread about who is a better fan.
Not really, but I bet you high-fived your cat and said, "got 'em" after you posted this.
Needing someone's approval/agreement is the point. Ironic that you seem to need that spelled out for you.needing how to enjoy something spelled out for you is some of the most miserable ish i've come across lol. imagine trying to belittle people for being happy.
It's not up to you to tell people how to 'fan'.We see a lot of posts from people spouting the curmudgeonly doctrine that "it doesn't count until the playoffs." That got me to thinking.. Are those people not able to enjoy what this team is doing right now? I would totally hate for this team to end up hoisting the Lombardi and all I could remember about how they got there was how miserable I was waiting for it to happen.
Am I wrong guys?

yeah. me too. shades of 2007, 2014, 2016.I'm cautiously optimistic. Been let down for nearly 3 decades so there's that.
Less excitement means less disappointment. In sports psychology you must control your emotions because along with the highs you have to have lows. It's better to be neutral and be in the moment. We see a lot of posts from people spouting the curmudgeonly doctrine that "it doesn't count until the playoffs." That got me to thinking.. No. You don't understand. What matters is the entertainment factor. A championship just enhances the entertainment more; the failure to win a championship doesn't diminish the entertainment being enjoyed now, or in the past. Are you serious? You clearly don't understand the point.
This team has finished 12-5 the past two years. Won the division two years ago. That's in addition to tons of excellent regular seasons the past decade-plus.
This isn't new. And if they crap out in the playoffs again, then it'll get lost in all the other seasons like this.
Doesn't mean it's not fun now. But the playoffs will determine ultimately if it mattered.
Why is that so hard?
If Dak and the Cowboys win the Super Bowl after my doubts, I would collapse. I would draw the shades and live in the dark. I would never get out of bed or clean myself. My fluids would coagulate and my head would shrivel. I would die, miserable and alone.there will be those who will not give credit to Dak. they will say it was the defense. or anyone could have done it. or it was a simplified offense because Dak can't run anything sophisticated. they would say it was the WRs, the TE, the opposing team choking. they will take a few plays of missed passes to say why Dak sucks and he can't read a defense because he missed a WR or a pass was slightly low or slightly high.
they will not be enjoying if that happens. they will be misreable inside. for them its Bash Dak Over Dallas is all that matters.
oh, agreed on your comment regarding entertainment of this. its a game, but some people take it more seriously than just a game.If Dak and the Cowboys win the Super Bowl after my doubts, I would collapse. Lol, I love that people actually believe some of this melodrama. It’s just a game people. Someone being critical (even overtly) will not change your enjoyment of the game or the players (just like your belief or optimism in the team or the players will not affect their ability to see the flaws of the team realistically). If you don’t like viewing their opinions, use the ignore feature. If someone gets actually miserable after a game, then they have issues that transcend the game (hope they find help).
Who doesn't enjoy the games? I like to watch them play every year win or lose.No. You don't understand. What matters is the entertainment factor. A championship just enhances the entertainment more; the failure to win a championship doesn't diminish the entertainment being enjoyed now, or in the past.
It is STILL a joy to watch Tony Romo work his magic in old games, even though he never won a championship. The game Emmitt Smith became the all-time leading NFL rusher was special - even if the Cowboys were 5-11 that season. I spent thousands going to Rangers games (100 tickets per season for years and years when my kids were growing up). Those are great family memories, even if the Rangers didn't win. My two August born daughters had their birthday parties at Rangers games, with all their friends for several years in a row.
I took my brother to a Rangers game for his 50th birthday, and it was one of the more enjoyable nights of his life, and mine also. They didn't win the championship that season. I used to get 40 tickets every year to the Dallas Stars games. My kids loved sitting up close to the glass. i took my son to a playoff game the year they won the Stanley Cup in the 90's. He is 33 years old, and still has his Stars jersey. My youngest daughter got on the jumbotron at American Airlines Arena. That's a great memory for her. Same daughter came home gushing one night about how great it was to watch Blake Griffin dunk in a game against the Mavericks.
We take our children to sports leagues, and get involved with their wrestling, swimming, track & field events. We go to their dance and music recitals. They are rarely champions, but that doesn't mean it was worthless.
The notion that it means nothing unless the Cowboys win a championship is ridiculous. We hope they win a championship. But we enjoy the journey. You sound like one of those people that rush to your vacation destination, and miss all the sights along the way. I've got a buddy in Wisconsin who comes back and forth to Texas - always drives straight through, 15 hours. When I go see him, I take 3 days each way, driving the back roads, stopping in little towns, visiting with the locals, stopping at lakes, getting out and taking pictures along the Mississippi River, or in the Ozark Mountains, or drive the ridges of the mountains in Arkansas, stop at a casino or two, find the best restaurants, etc. I enjoy the trip, as much as I enjoy the destination.
In 35 seasons since Jones bought the team, he's had only 9 losing seasons. That means for 26 seasons, the Cowboys have fielded a team that was competitive, and they've won 3 championships. As for me, I find the offseason more entertaining than the actual season - because I'm an engineer, and figuring out how to build something intrigues me. So, I find the team building aspect of the offseason very enjoyable.
I pity those who cannot enjoy the ride, and are impatient to get to the destination - ignoring all the great things that can happen on the way. I hazard a guess that the same people are those who get road rage when someone gets in their way on the highway. What a terrible way to live.
Great post. If you (rightly) take away a few trouble makers and people over feed them...we ate happy, enjoying it.Listen, this fan base has been tortured for nearly 30 years. No fan base in the NFL has been subjected to more promise and then disappointment than Cowboys fans. The Jones family has turned this once proud franchise into a punchline. Fans are well within their rights to be skeptical.
That said the positivity on this forum is about 95%. Sure people complain about players and the SF game but for the most part they have been very positive this year.
Calling out people for being downers after the past 30 years is peak homerism in my mind. Just stop and let fans vent when they want. Most of it is fair. That’s what an opinion forum is for. Without the banter back and forth this place would be boring as hell.
I think theres more investment than just a movie. Emotionally and for many, finanicially.oh, agreed on your comment regarding entertainment of this. its a game, but some people take it more seriously than just a game.
if we lose, I will wake up the next day, go to work, do what I do, play golf. be a little disappointed. if we win, exactly the same, perhaps a little enjoyment of my team having won.
life goes on. nothing changes. its like watching a good movie or a bad movie.
I don't disagree. yes, there is more emotions involved. point being, life goes on. you deal with an entertainment disappointment. its not life altering in any way and if anyone takes it over the top emotionally, then they have bigger issues they need to address. if football just goes away tomorrow, I will be very disappointed as its a great entertainment for me. but I will find another entertainment to support my sports fix need. there is plenty of options. its a game. nothing more. nothing less. now, with that said, I am not a casual fan. we plan our weekends around cowboys games. I own merchandise. we watch as a family and have fun together.I think theres more investment than just a movie. Emotionally and for many, finanicially.
Im among many here that have beena fan for 50+ years. Ive never watched a movie 15 times a year for 50 years.
It shouldnt really matter or even come up.....HOW....ive done it for 5 decades.
lol this site full of emotional bias on both sides what you talking bout Willis? Are some people not able to enjoy the game, but then after the game look at things rationally without any emotional bias?
I gave a like but 'half this board' is an exaggeration. A small number of members posting a large volume of comments is more than it seems. Roosters crow the loudest and hardest but there are way more hens sitting inside the chicken coop, lol. This team could win the Super Bowl and half this board would be saying it doesn’t mean anything if they can’t repeat.
