sure, but what one team does in a negotiation does not govern what happens in the cba negotiation. i am not suggesting the cowboys do something in violation of the current cba. what happens in the cba negotiated is bared by all the teams, so dont really care since i only care about the cowboys.

The Rams paying Hurley that money has an affect on what is happening with Zeke.

Not only is it a few million per year.
Not only is it a huge cap hit if he gets suspended or banned.
It is also all the negotiations to follow.
If the Jones allow Zeke to force the highest pay for a RB 2 years before his contract is up, what will Dak, Cooper, LVE, BJones, Chido, Woods do?
Will everyone start holding out 2 years before their contract is done?
That means Chido and Woods could hold out after the season and LVE the season after that?

If I were Stephen, I would make an example of Zeke's agent.
Make it totally personal.
Curse at him, degrade him, talk about his wife and his mother, do whatever it takes to make Zeke realize that a deal cannot be done as long as he has the same agent.
Force the agent to get fired or else Zekes' career is in limbo.
Set the precedent.
So all other agents know what can happen.

Simply make this statement:
we made Zeke an offer to be the top 2 paid rb.
he did not take it.
that is the last offer.
we are not trading him.
he can play for the cowboys or not at all.
have a nice day.

Love the Zeke and our offense is all Zeke.
Do not love the Money Zeke is going to cost us Cap wise as it will hinder the team but he has a VALID argument on why he should be the highest paid HB in the league.
Zeke's actions are the result of when a team or better said a offense depends so much on 1 player as this was proven when Zeke was out for 6 weeks.
Jerry and Sons gonna bite the bullet and Pay this young man a huge chunk of our Cap dollars as they have put themselves in this position with bad decision making in the past.
GL Zeke and make us proud and respect the Cash you will be given!

it has an affect in terms of setting a precedence, but also set a precedence of how bad that contract can be.
in terms of negotiations, it is only 1 of 5 in the franchise tag, and i suspect teams have learned that it was a mistake.

it is really simple.
let zeke sit out games.
if dak does well despite zeke sitting out, then he earned his contract.
if dak does poorly, then dak contract is cheaper and/or we get a new qb.
if we want to contend, cannot be so one-dimensioned.

This is true only due to the devalued position. Dak's contract negotiations, will be different. The Cowboys are going to pay one of the three top dollar.

..the first casualty of the hold out system might be Zeke. Why? Still 2 yrs on contract and considering all his playful affairs outside of football. Jerry has bent backwards for the guy. Im surprised they made him the offer he has now.

the fact of the matter is we have multiple negotiations going on.
they cannot afford to be that generous.
if there was no cap, then whatever.
but there is only so much cap manipulations that is possible.
i would pay cooper myself as we know he is good and necessary.
let zeke sit out and see what happens.
again, give it 3 games.
if dak does well without zeke, then dak earned his contract and zeke has lost a lot of money.
if dak does poorly, then we can resign him for cheaper or happily move on.
either case, we are covered.
if the new offense is any good, i suspect dak will play well and zeke's position goes to hell.

i am surprised also.
i think they did it for PR reasons.
i would tell his agent take it or leave it, you have until sept 1 before the contract value goes down.

Zeke has no leverage and the Cowboys shouldn’t cave. If they choose to negotiate they shouldn’t put themselves in cap hell to make it happen.

Regarding the OP’s thoughts on getting personal with an agent, that’s shortsighted and will cost the team long term. Look at DC, Bruce Allen has a horrible reputation for negotiating in bad faith and they have a hard time getting FA’s and retaining their own players.

It’s business, never make it personal.

This thread should be dead and buried.
As a matter of fact, waldo should wish it was dead and buried before I looked at it.

Just stupid, stupid stuff.

Any agent will immediately take that garbage public. They will immediately turn that tactic around and take a high ground. It would make the Cowboys look so incompetent...
I told him it would turn the Cowboys into a leper colony. Was waiting for you to chime in.

it does not have to be in bad faith.
there are so many ways to do it.
just tell the agent, take it or leave it.
and we dont really see the point to waste our time with the same negotiator.
so if he wants to crawl back later on, get another negotiator.
really simple.

Let him hold out. He has no leverage at all.
Funny thing happens when money stops coming in and bills need to be paid, and with no endorsement $$$ coming in, brother, it gets hot in the kitchen pretty quick.

enough crap to the point the agent is cornered.
i have been on the receiving end and giving end of that, works quite well.
So someone comes up with a better your mom joke and you cave like a *****. Got it.

no, the big picture is to corner the agent so that he gets fired.
how that is done, it does not matter.
the important thing is to let the other agents know their $ is at risk.
in this case, zeke has 2 years left on his contract, so his agent is the perfect whipping boy.
if you read the op correctly, you will understand.
