I never thought Gallinore would be a great run stuffer but I thought he'd be a better pass rusher. I was dead wrong. As for run support, we just have to hope Bo and Hankins lock in when it counts. Similar to how the Colts turned up their run d in 2006 playoffs after getting destroyed all year
We keep playing him at NT, which helps negate his skills.

I had such high hopes for this group going into the season.

We had talent, ability, improvement and growth from previous seasons.

Osi and Gallimore looked posed to have break out seasons.

Now they are little more than speed bumps to the opposition.

I mean things are so bad that we had to make a mid season trade for Hankins.

Is it their positional coaching being poor ? Injuries ?

I am not good at watching game tape and grading out players, but I am just curious if anyone here has any ideas on what ails

this group of players?
My buddy is a big Giants fan and I asked him about Hankins when Dallas got him and he laughed and said he is nothing special that's why the Giants let him go. Typical Jerry move. Bring in a cheap T that's big enough to get everyone excited.

I also find it sad that Philly has 4 DTs that are all better than our starters, in my opinion.
Philly values DL more than any other group, always spending 1st or 2nd round picks, equivalent of what Dallas does on OL

Signing Daron Payne this offseason would completely change our defense and would make me happier than any FA signing over the last decade.

Will we do it? 0% chance.

its a collective failure.Failure of the FA to not fix this weakness forever, failure of Quinn to not see this coming and failure of Osa,Gallimore and Bohanna to take the next step.

Hankins is a good run stopping DT. The reason the Giants let him go is because their idiot GM way overpaid Hankins in free agency. They paid him like a superstar DT when he was just a run stopper. They realized he was making too much money and let him go. Not because he’s not really good at clogging the middle, but because you just shouldn’t pay a ton for that as a franchise. (Which is why I wouldn’t spend a high first round pick on a run stuffing DT).

Hankins is still good at stuffing the run and he was on a team (and traded for draft capital) while Linval Joseph and Suh were on the street where any team could sign them, and yet it took halfway through the season before anyone wanted them.

The people poo-poo’ing Hankins and saying how much they wanted Joseph really don’t know about those two players.

Now Suh provides a better pass rush inside than Hankins but is no better in the run game… and Suh picks his spots when he wants to give full effort.

The only issue with Hankins right now is that he’s not quite healthy yet.

I would bring up Anthony Rush from the practice squad. I'm not sure why we haven't.

Because, sadly, they are playing their best DTs now.

We don't need a DT in the offseason. We need several.

This thread is the epitome of homerism.

Thanks, appreciate the insights.

Yup. Which makes it really sad, as he is our best DT.

What's going on?

They aren't all that good. Middle of the road, at best, compared to the league. But that's by design. Jerry and his son Cleetus don't seem to think high level DT play has much value. They would rather place their cash in positions like running back.

You could argue that you can dump the entire DT room if you want. Odi is young and cheap and decent enough as a pass rusher, so I guess he can stay, although he's certainly not untouchable. The rest? Ehhhhh. If we didn't have needs elsewhere, I'd spend like 4 picks in this draft on DTs.

Can't wait for them to restructure Elliott, kick his cap hit into the future, so they can free up cash in a panic move to sign Pollard. Because what wins you games in this league is running backs. That's what they believe.

Hankins could be back for us in the playoffs. That's what's going on!
