What Makes Dak Irreplaceable?

When Dalton was the QB the Cowboys had one of the worst defenses in franchise history. When Rush was the QB the Cowboys scored a grand total of nine touchdowns in five games. The defense carried them to a 4-1 record.

I mean if the Dolphins miss any one of their 50-plus yard field goals today is this conversation even happening? Every game and every season is unique. The Cowboys lost today because they could not get a defensive stop when it mattered. Period. End of story.
No, you proved my point that Dak can be replaced, because defense wins championships not offense. Take his money, go with Rush or Lance and let’s get a defense above all.

Thanks for your insight.

Extending Dak significantly lowers his cap hit. He may be on the books for 53-55 APY but his actual cap hit would be spread out over the long term. Add that to the annual cap increase and the damage a new Dak deal has is mitigated even more.

The Cowboys will have plenty of money to make whatever moves they want to fix the defense. Problem is they have to want to fix it. Remember this past offseason when they had over $20 million of cap space and decided not to spend it.
I do agree with the Cowboys have to want to fix the defense. Our approach to FA is horrible. I also admit that you guys know more about the cap and the money issues and how it ebbs and flows.

I’m concerned with extending Dak that it will make us the Vikings of the South. Good regular seasons and playoff failure. I think Dak is a good QB but I don’t think he has “it”. I’d rather roll the dice and try and find someone that has “it” then keep doing what we’ve been doing. This getting the expectations up and then folding is hard on the emotions. I think I’m frustrated with that more than anything.

We will never win with a $60 mil a year player at QB.

We'll just need to enjoy watching our $60 mil a year QB run around with Edoga blocking for him.

Three wins against mediocre teams gives me confidence will win the SB
Not sure why not, there have been SB teams that have played worse teams in the playoffs... 23' Eagles for instance.

Yall want a mentally tough team, yet yall arent mentally tough as fans.

You can do it if their skill and talent actually warrants it and it's not just because they're the "next guy up" to get paid.

You can't win with a $60 mil a year Dak Prescott though.

Ask yourself where Dak is on his career arch. Is he still ascending or descending now? I think we’ve seen the best of him which wasn’t good enough yet I know it takes a team though. I see no reason to throw another huge contract his way for fear of getting a Daniel Jones or somebody.

Now, if he would play for around 25-30mill a year….I wouldn’t be opposed to extending him but he will want top dollar. Unfortunately, Dallas is backed into a corner and can’t afford to get out from under his contract.

That's the mindset I'm talking about to a tee.

Trey Lance is automatically assumed he would suck under the same conditions Dak has right now. That's the "If Dak can't do it nobody can" mentality I'm talking about. The "Dak is irreplaceable but we don't know why besides contract" mindset.

The truth is we just don't know how Lance would do because we haven't seen it.
Exactly. Trey Lance has more natural talent than Dak. Does that he mean he would be better? Not necessarily. But, here is something we do know. Cooper Rush went 5-1 without Dak. He’s proven winning with this team can be done without him. We also don’t know that he wouldn’ continue to perform well.

How does that prove anything? If Rush played the entire season last year the Cowboys would have been lucky to finish 8-9. They needed more offense and Dak coming back was the difference.

In the NFL teams need to play complementary football. You're not scoring 30 points every week and you're not holding opponents under 20 every week.

The defense had their chance today to slam the door shut on Miami after the Dak-led offense put them ahead with 3 minutes to play. They could not do it. When crunch time arrived in the 4th quarter, the offense did their part and the defense did not.

Maybe the offense should have scored more and the defense wouldn’t have had to cover for them?

So many maybes. How about them in the red zone on the 2 ? Was that the defense failing?

Simple answer to your question…Jerry Jones. He doesn’t roll the dice on franchise QBs.

He is a top NFL quarterback. If someone has the opinion that he’s not good enough it’s fair to ask who an alternative is. Dak Prescott is a very good quarterback in his prime. Few in the NFL are significantly better.
Against losing teams in garbage time start padding he’s good. When the chips are down and he needs to step up, he falls short every time.

New blood is needed.

I get it, but to me Dak did his part. Led Dallas back. I mean we can play the "what if" game every week. If the Dolphins miss all those long field goals the Cowboys probably would have won easily. Would not have been a work of art but still.

On to the next game.

So leading Dallas back from 19-10 down to a 20-19 lead in the 4th quarter was Dak falling short when the chips are down?

Must have been a different game on my television today.

Dak did his part .... 3 points against the Bills and 20 points against the Fins.

I really prefer someone else who doesn't make $40 mil a year to lose like that.

That sounds like the D did their part.
