I think somebody should worry more about "Team Mediocre" beating the Texans and less about what the Cowboys are doing.......

Don't get touchy when someone does you the same turn you do others. You mocked WV's use of "dribble", you should have made sure your post was perfect, otherwise, you can count on me countering with something just as shallow and pedantic. You should know that by now, PT

As for the 12-5 record last year, notice that the Jags were 3-4 against teams with winning records. The record of opponents in the other 10 games? A combined 43-117. They can only play the teams in front of them, but the Jags played many games against some of the worst teams in the league, including 6 against Hou, Tenn, SF, and the Jets. The 12-5 record was smoke and mirrors, and the Jags were exposed (3-28) by a veteran NE defense in the playoffs.
I don't think it was all smoke and mirrors. You're discrediting what they did because they played a few bad teams. They were 4-2 in their division. Granted there are some bad teams in their division, but division games are hardly ever a push-over. They also beat the Bengals, Steelers, and Seahawks. The Steelers and Seahawks where in the Superbowl! That speaks volumes about how good that were. They lost twice to the Colts, but then again the Colts had the best record in the league at 14-2. They also lost to the Broncos were again were one of the best teams in the NFL last year. Their only other loss was to the Rams which they lost by a field goal. The Rams had a blocked punt for a TD, and an 83 yard TD pass. Two break downs in coverage (1 pass coverage and 1 special teams resulted in 14 points) Subtract those two breakdowns and the game was 21-10 Jacksonville and the Jags end up 13-3 last year. Just like if you subtract a few missed field goals Dallas was 10-6.

The Jags were a very good team last year. You can never tell in this league from year to year though. This year they could be great again, or end up like the Titians did last year...

i see us winning this game because

leftwich is a good quaterback, but isnt the smartest in decision making...especially under pressure...n our Corners are way to smart for him, to be throwing ******* passes.....i think that gives us an edge..matt jones is good..but i dun think hes good enough to beat our corners...he have a few god cathes..but with left which throwing the ball hmmm

all we basically gotta do is..control the line of scrimmage..n atleast give bledsoe 4-5 secs in the pocket....other than that...the only person im scared of is rashean mathis...but he cant guard TO 1 on 1 so they might give safety help..n whos gonna guard terry glenn 1 on 1?? or witten man to man?

with our recivers i doubt well see big blitzes they might depend on thier front 4....n if they do blitz that means 1 on 1 coverage..n just have everyone sit back n block..n have terry, TO,n Witten..be the only 1's going out

bottom line....they wont be able to have a good day agianst our corners...especially with ware n ellis after his ***..i say we win 17-6

They lost two games to the only good team in their division.

The Steelers were without Charlie Batch. They beat the Seahawks by only 12, despite being +5 - that's right, +5 - in TO differential that day. They needed overtime to beat the Batch-Steelers. Criticism of their schedule last year is legit.

Which just happen to be the best team in the regular season. Lets not forget that.

You're right, and the Jags did exactly what they should have done. Picked off 3 passes (returned one for a TD) and shutdown the Steelers for 218 total yards. The Steelers had a punt return for a touchdown. By my last post and this one, the Jags weakness is special teams. What is clear is that the Jags are a VERY tough defense. (#6 in the NFL last season)

True, then again the Seahawks weren't expected to go to the Superbowl last year were they?

Criticized for what? Not going 13-3 beating the Rams or because they went 12-4 and had the 4th best record last season? They beat the teams they should have beaten, and even beat team they shouldn't have. I don't have any criticism for what they did last year. They did what the Cowboys could not. Win the games they should have won and even won some of the game they shouldn't have.

You should be giving credit not criticism.

No, I'm discrediting what they did because they played MOSTLY bad teams. Ten of the games they played were against opponents who amassed 6 or fewer wins on the season.

They won two division games against Houston, the worst team in the league. The other opponent, Tennessee, won only 4 games, beating Houston twice and SF once. Going 4-2 in the AFC South in 2005 was no big accomplishment.

I'll give you the Seahawks and Bengals, but the Steelers started Tommy Maddox at QB, and he threw 3 INT's, basically giving the game away. Also, Hines Ward was inactive for the game. It wasn't the same team that played in the SB.

This is exactly my point. They lost to most of the good teams on their schedule.

This is cherry picking. Do I get to take back Fred Taylor's 71 yard run or Jamie Martin's 3 INT's in the STL game? He's another backup QB by the way.

Further, if we look at the flip side, Jacksonville barely beat a couple of bad teams in SF (10-9 on a late 4th quarter FG) and the Jets, who took them to OT.

No, they weren't. They were a mediocre team with a solid defense and a favorable schedule. They caught a break against the Steelers, and they surprised the Seahwaks and Bengals.

Throw the 12-5 record out is all I'm saying. It doesn't mean much.

This is a TOUGH opener but we had a tough opener last year and many did not expect us to win in San Diego.

I think it will be close and whichever defense creates the most turnovers will probably win.

IF Vanderjagt misses a field goal early, I HOPE Parcells lines up Suisham if there is a second attempt.

Should be a stressful and stomach grinding game. Ala most of last years games.

I see this going to the final 5 minutes of the game neck and neck before the winner is determined.

Good post... I see something similar happening.

I just hope fans won't go berzerk if we lose. Jax is a good to very good team playing at home, and they could very well take it to us. But even the best teams don't win every week... We could very well lose this game and still have a great season.

This is one of those times when I'd be more than happy to look back and think ... what the hell was I thinking?

I do that alot anyway, so hopefully I'll get some joy out of it one of these days. :D

We will win mainly because of our CB play and our Defensive line pressure.

On a side note, Terrel Owens won't hurt.

Anytime you're able to manage squeezing some bad wishes for the Eagles into a conversation that makes you golden in my eyes. :)

kmd24,

I responded to superpunk which made mostly the same points as you did. The Jags did exactly what they should have done. Win. You can't criticize someone for doing exactly what they should have done.

One of your points can be made about that Chicago Bears defense. They got it handed to them when they played a team with a good offense, but when they played against their own division their defense looked like the all-decade defense. It wasn't, it only looked that way because their schedule had them play so many piss poor offensive.
  1. Lions (2)
  2. Vikings (2)
  3. Packers (2)
  4. Ravens
  5. 49ers
  6. Bucs
  7. Browns
  8. Saints
Thats 11 of 16 games against teams that ended up ranked 18th or lower in total offense.

So, do you respect the Bears defense or do you criticize the Bears defense for not facing any *real* offense?

NYC,

It's not criticism so much as it is perspective. Don't you think the Boys defense would have been much better statistically had they gotten to play Chicago's schedule? Would Chicago's have been as good if they had Dallas' schedule? Would Jax have finished with as many wins if they had a tougher schedule? I don't really think so. Looking at their 12-4 record with perspective is rational. 2 quality wins out of 10 games, and 5 opportunities, makes for skepticism about how good they were last year - couple that with losing Jones and Smith so far, and the knocks keep adding up.

They're a good team. Just not 12-4 good.
