What Makes you think the Cowboys will Beat the Jaguars

I responded to superpunk which made mostly the same points as you did. The Jags did exactly what they should have done. Win. You can't criticize someone for doing exactly what they should have done.

It's not a criticism of the Jags. I'm simply trying to refute a fallacious point ostensibly used to predict the outcome of the upcoming game.

Let me put it as simply as I know how: The fact that the Jags built a 12-5 record predominately against the dregs of the league makes that record a poor predictor of the outcome of a game against an above average opponent like the Cowboys.

Snap Shot look at the Cowboys vs Jaguars in the past ...

Series Record: Cowboys lead series 2-1
Last Cowboys Win:mad: Cowboys 21, Jaguars 19 (Nov. 24, 2002)
Series records really don't get into a team's head until they become lopsided. Dallas' 2-1 edge is nothing to make the bulletin board.

Observation #2:

Jaguars In 2005....... 12-4, AFC Wild Card Berth
Previous seasons don't necessarily carry over into the next year. Jacksonville has just as big a chance to fall flat as imporve or stabilize.

Observation #3:

The Jaguars, were 6-2 at home last season and haven't had a losing record at Alltell since 2002, ironically the last time the Cowboys faced them.
The Jags also did not do much to improve this off season. One of our biggest acquisitions, Ayodele, just may have some extra motivation to play well this Sunday.

Observation #4:

2005 STATISTICAL LEADERS ( ...aka: Jaguars Most Wanted List)
gameday_jaguars_leftwich.jpg
QB Byron Leftwich
175 of 302, 2,123 yards, 57.9%, 15 TDs, 5 INTs, 89.3 QB Rating
gameday_jaguars_taylor.jpg
RB Fred Taylor
194 carries, 787 yards, 4.1 Avg., 3 TDs
gameday_jaguars_wilford.jpg
WR Ernest Wilford
41 catches, 681 yards, 16.6 Avg., 7 TDs
Not overly impressive for any of the 3 though I think Leftwich will improve and Matt Jones will have better production than Wilford.

Observation #5:

Jaguars Key Additions: OT Stockar McDougle, and OG Mike Williams
As I said earlier, not much done in the off season to improve. Even their Draft wasn't super impressive.

Question: Can the Cowboys continue their winning ways in the "regular season?"
Ab-so-freaking-lutely, and beyond the regular season too.

Don't let these guys catch you underestimating them. I think this may be a dog fight there in Florida. IMO early scores may be critical as both defenses will realize that this game is going to count!

This will not be an easy walk in the park.
What makes you so sure don't you underestimate Houston either.

So, by this logic, they Eagles will suck again too, right?

:suxiggle:

Maybe this is unrealistic, but I'm predicting blowout.

Cowboys 38
Jaguars 13

Why?

I think the Cowboys will start off passing the ball, exploit the double team on TO. Glenn is open for at least two scores, Witten one, TO one and Barber a rushing TD.

The Jags have been a defensive team, a keep-it-close ball team. They no longer have Jimmy Smith, who was the key to their passing game.

We will jump out on them early and then let the defense pin its ears back and get after Leftwich.

At least I hope this is the outcome. :D

Answer: Yep.

Better question...

Question: Are the Eagles one Donovan McNabb or Brian Westbrook injury away from swapping slots with the Texans in next April's draft?

Answer: You betcha!

Jags to make Cowboys wear dark jerseys in opener
Associated Press

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- For the second consecutive season, Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio will try to use Jacksonville's heat and humidity to his advantage in the home opener.

Del Rio said Monday he will make the Dallas Cowboys wear their blue home jerseys on the road Sunday, hoping the dark shirts will cause more sweat for players unaccustomed to dealing with the sweltering Florida sun.

"I just like Dallas' dark jerseys," Del Rio said sarcastically. "I like those white helmets they wear with those dark jerseys. I think they're pretty classy. We'll let them wear them here."

All three Florida teams -- Jacksonville, Tampa Bay and Miami -- typically wear white jerseys at home during the first month of the season and make opponents wear dark jerseys.

When Del Rio took over in Jacksonville in 2003, he had Buffalo wear dark jerseys for the home opener. But the Bills hammered Jacksonville 38-17, and Del Rio didn't force the jersey swap the following year. He went back to it last season against Seattle, and although temperatures were relatively mild, the Jaguars won 26-14.

Del Rio believes the jerseys can make a difference.

"It can if it's a scorcher," he said. "If it's really hot I guess it could. But I think the jersey thing is a little overdone. The team that plays well is not going to feel the heat. If you're not playing well, it's going to be hot as hell. I don't put a lot of credence into it. You make a decision and do what you feel comfortable with and go."

The NFL allows home teams to choose their jerseys, either white or dark, and the road teams must wear the opposite color.

for some reason..knowing leftwich hes gonna throw newmans way....

i see newman havin a big game..maybe 2 picks...atleast 1...i also see ware having a good game too..

and if its a close game...for sum reason i see vanderjadt winning the game....n shutting up the doubters..n him going back to being cocky as usual

IMO, both defenses are very stout, but Dallas just has so many more weapons with which to score. Jacksonville is without Jimmy Smith and Greg Jones, two big contributors to the 2005 offense. The defense is without Mike Peterson, their leading tackler in 2005 and one of their sack leaders.

As for the 12-5 record last year, notice that the Jags were 3-4 against teams with winning records. The record of opponents in the other 10 games? A combined 43-117. They can only play the teams in front of them, but the Jags played many games against some of the worst teams in the league, including 6 against Hou, Tenn, SF, and the Jets. The 12-5 record was smoke and mirrors, and the Jags were exposed (3-28) by a veteran NE defense in the playoffs.

It's always hard to win against good defenses, especially on the road. I don't see the Jags scoring too many points, so that should give Dallas a good chance to pull this one out.
Score one for the positive side. Great post!

What is "Eagles ***" still having that communication problem?

I agree. And no I don't think it is unealistic at all. Everyone keeps talking about last season. Last season, we had a different team and so did Jacksonville. This is a new year; we have many imrpovements on offense and defense, a new offensive set that gets the most out of our skilled players, and a 3-4 defense that is wiser and stronger than it was last season.

This is the first time Owens has played opposite a wide reciever the caliber of Glenn (Rice doesn't count because Owens ws still young and Rice was on his way ou of SF). Add Witten, who should turn back into a "recieving TE" again this year, and you have arguably the best recieving tandom in the league. Barber is better, and Jones will benefit from having more room to run with Owens and Glenn on the field, and Fasano will help out with pass protection. We also have Watkins, who is better in coverage than Keith Davis and is a playmaker. Our OLBs are stronger and deeper. Our ILBs are stronger and deeper. Canty and Spears are more experienced. We have more defensive depth than Jax, which will come in handy in the rotations when players get tired, because this is the first full game for many players, and more players get dehydrated in game 1 than any other game.

Couple of things you forgot to take into consideration there ...

1) I didn't fabricate that stat/standings ...got it off Of the Cowboys official site.

2) Never said I sanctioned the concept

So by logic, the Eagles will do what the Eagles have done so many times before without multiple injuries ...they will contend!

(the Cowboys are gonna spank McSlob with Fat Andy's cheesesteak)...(again)! (and McSlob will gladly bend over and love it)...

You sound like such a nice guy, Phonetic-Freaking-Talon...I wonder why you choose to root for such a losing organization? Apparently you're not as smart as you want anyone to believe...!

Evander Holyfield still thinks he can be the Heayweight champion. Heck, he was the champ about 15 years ago...He still has arms, legs, a chin, missing half an ear though...he should be able to contend..right?

Guys?

Count me amongst those who believe we'll win this weekend.

A bit oversimplistic perhaps but I think our offense simply has greater potential against their defense than their offense versus our D.

Now I think it'll be a defensive struggle because I think Jax will in fact play 8 in the box and bring as much pressure on our OL as possible. I expect BP will tend to stay conservative as a result because he'll think our D can control their O. He'll be patient and wait for the big plays without risking foolish mistakes.

But eventually I think our O will make some big plays. I think Bledsoe, Owens, Glenn & Witten will see to that, even if those receivers end up as coverage draws to allow our other receivers to breakthrough. I could also see the screen working this game. I think Parcells will eventually keep 8 in to block if that is whats necessary to spring TO/Glenn. facetiousness/

I think we can even gut out a win if Vandy continues his struggles.

I think this team (players and Parcells) feels like it had tons of sand kicked in its face late last year and has regrouped with determination to make sure that script doesn not play out this year.

Our OL may not be pretty, or consistently effective. But I don't think it'll be the embarrassment it was late last year. And I think we'll see at least glimpses of that this Sunday.

I guess I'm simply agreeing with Parcells when he said Fabini could line up backwards and not give up the sacks we did last year. I think that is more a comment on our entire OL than on Fabini himself.

So you post stuff you don't "sanction" or "believe"?

More like you use selective history where it suits you.

If you're gonna use it, use all of it even the parts you might not like.

Please, the Eagles were a bad team before their "injuries"!

Save that excuse for your own board!

Very nice post...and I agree with almost all of it, but, I think the Boyz will come out flat but keep the game close, and the kicker will lose it in the end...

(and if that happens, I'm going to Home Depot...buying a rope...then purchasing a plane ticket to Dallas, TX)!!
