Aside from the Mass Koolaid drinking party??

We get to wait for 17 days on the Elton Brand Amnesty crap to play out.
We get to flirt with Ramon Sessions as he tries to get seriously overpaid as the 20th best NBA PG.

We get linked to every free agent available but won't sign any until every other team's pool of funds has dried up and we can get bargains. This is Ross Perot Jr era Mavs thinking.

Off to ballislife to watch mix tapes of high school freshmen because that'll be about the time we can draft high enough to get a star and finally start winning again.

Cuban shoulda just let Carlisle sign elsewhere and hired Calipari. We don't need a good coach, we need a good high school kid recruiter.

I don't think too many people are drinking the koolaid now, although Ben and Skin are trying. It's obvious that the Mavs took a huge gamble that failed. I still don't understand why they thought it was a good idea to let Chandler leave when they had little indication that DH was actually going to come here. They were so blinded by the idea of no post Dirk rebuilding that they apparently didn't consider the possibility of not getting either Howard or Williams.

Anyway if they go straight into panic mode now and start signing mediocre players to bad contracts (instead of good players to decent but long term contracts) then everybody will be right to criticize them. I don't mind if they sign guys like Sessions to lesser contracts but if they start going after guys like Brand who don't really mesh with Dirk when they already passed on Chandler, then it's time for serious questions. That's part of why I hate the always super negative media, because when the team really screws up, everybody who can really call them on it has been crying wolf for 10 years even though they won a championship.

I think my body of work suggest I am a happy fan but one with limits.

I am definitely angry that Cuban tried to sell Deron on fiscal responsibility. (Yes I know Donnie was the actual pitch man). NBA players do not want to hear that crap. No employee anywhere does, BTW.

Dallas took a gamble but now we are veering into pure MC hard-headedness.

That worries me because MC will go a long way to prove doubters wrong. That long way could really suck for the fans. But I was a fan when that's all MC was. I saw us draft Kidd. I know about suckitude and being the worst team of the decade. That's what cheap got us. Spending got us 12 years as a contender. So not spending is not the pitch for me.

Deron was our guy. He badly wanted to be here. He badly wanted to raise his kids here. But we showed him a roster of crap and more losing. In NJ they went crazy spending and collecting assets that can be used in trade in the future. All Dallas has is dry powder. Dry powder is a 1-time winner in NBA history. Not a good bet.

As to Brand he fits nicely with Dirk. He'd be the best interior player Dirk ever played with and is the second best defensive big man. He can defend any big man except Dwight and Bynum quite well. We have the slower Haywood around for those assignments.

But if Brand does come it is on a 1 year deal. He isn't signing here long-term.
Because we aren't paying him.

Highest bidder wins Brand. He has no choice what he makes. However if we win we gotta either amnesty Wood(which I would love) or give up out MLE.

Whoever wins Brand wins him for one year.
I think we'll see around 4 bids for him. Will mavs be highest? No idea. But odds aren't great to be sure. Does sound like Falk will try to get him to Dallas behind the scenes. He wants him in a market that gets notice and in a place where his scoring is much needed. All about getting that massive deal next year.

Mavs have lots of cap space for him so shouldn't need to amnesty Haywood or use the MLE. At least not unless the bid is expensive. Mavs are currently ~20m under the cap. His cap cost should be low. He is already well paid for the year by Philly. And a large bid only buys him for one season.

No I guess the rule is when u win the bid u must stay under the cap. Mavs are under as far as players but have so many TPE,MLE,and trade exceptions that it all adds up as todatl cap. They basically would have to renounce the mini mle or the likes or amnesty Wood. Stupid rules of the NBA. Meanwhile Nets are gonna be like literally 40 million over cap and the Russian is willing to pay the taxes. he may pay way into the billions. he doesnt care. its skewed like baseball.Although you lose Mle,and a bunch of other things.

So what are the latest rumors?

I've heard two.

1. Kevin Love could end up in L.A. in exchange for Pau Gasol.

2. Bynum is considering the Mavs as an FA destination if he does not receive an extension from the Lakers prior to 2013.

I would take Bynum in a heartbeat.

the only reason Bynum is "considering Dallas" is due to a smoke sceen to up his money. @Mcuban has a lot of cash ... just no more players. I feel sorry for Dirk. Dude busted his butt for 10+ years for this team and cubes and Jr Nelson screw it up. Thank God he got 1 title.

I feel sorry for Dirk too. I'm sure he's disappointed like the rest of us.

But if you ask him, I bet he would heap praise on Cubes and Nelson overall. He could have spent his career in about 20-25 other NBA towns and had far worse results.
As you said, they did win a title. They also went to another finals and currently have the second longest playoff run of any franchise.

There's possibly no player in any sport that I was more happy for than Dirk when he finally raised that trophey!

The writing was on the wall when i heard Cubes wasnt even going to give Deron a pitch ... he was off filming Shark Tank looking to become the next Donald TRump.

Well it doesn't look like he's going to Orlando. Howard to Nets is almost done.

I agree to an extent. I think that this deal with 4 teams is a bit far fetched only because they haven't gotten any of the agents involved as yet and when that happens, this whole thing can go south quick. However, that doesn't mean that Bynum would end up in Orlando anyway. The thing you can't measure is how Bynum feels now that the Lakers have tried to trade him twice in the space of a year. After next season, he's unrestricted and he can sign anywhere I believe. He may decide to just go elsewhere because of the teams attempts to trade him. It may not matter what we can offer. You never know how those things will play out.

Lots of conflicting reports out there. Don't really know what to believe.

The Bynum issue will be money. He is a max type player but Lakers will have to think long and hard about maxing him out and paying those tax bills. Especially if he if they are at best the league's 3rd best team. That's a lot of dough to be 3rd.

Dallas is keeping cap room right now for the Brand offer.
In a sense Cuban was right about getting stars offered up for nothing.
Even if it is a small "star" this time around.
