I'm more concerned we burned a top5 pick on a rb who does everything well but nothing great
I think we need to give Zeke time. He had the nervous jitters today. When he calms down, we'll be glad we drafted him. In the meantime, it's great to have Morris. You think he's pumped to play his old team next week? I say we give Morris lots of carries next week but it's too soon to give up on Zeke. I believe he will be great.

I agree, but why should folks?

Folks around here sure didn't waste anytime proclaiming him ROY, a threat for 2,000 yards, an all-time great, et cetera.

I don't think all of the receivers turned bad. I look to the common denominator, the guy throwing the ball. Why doesn't Romo have 7 drops a game? I find it hard to believe it's just bad luck or that everyone let Dak down.
His ball placement and velocity were not great on a lot of his passes. Particularly when he was moving. A couple were caused by the sun, but I'd say that accounted for 2.
Like I said, Dak wasn't perfect, but I do recall several dropped passes with Romo at QB. He's just experienced enough to make up for it. I don't think it's fair to compare Dak to Romo at this point. And yes, the team (receivers, run blockers, defense) let him down today.

I'll be honest. I've been critical of Garrett in the past. But even after last year, I didn't think firing him was the answer.

I'm where you are with him. Schematically, offense and defense, this team is incredibly basic. That's not a bad thing (and can, in fact, be a good thing) if you have overwhelming talent on both the sides of the ball. However, in this age of parity, I don't think any team can be stacked on both sides of the ball. Somebody somewhere needs to be innovative.

its really absurd at this point. Romo bails them out on offense yet always takes the blame. I still get mad when I think of Garrett blaming romo for changing the play after the loss to GB in '13. It was a complete turd move by garrett.

I have never once heard Romo blame anyone let alone tell us of all the times he had to change garrett's call and get the team in the right situation.

and this defense is just terrible. Every single thing about it stinks. The scheme stinks, the personnel is poor and most importantly the people who they put their faith in to pick the defensive players seem to be awful.

Garret became head coach and hired rob ryan and monte kiffen, then the front office let those guys pick the players to fit their schemes even though the whole league knew the defenses were no good. Then we doubled down taking a terrific line coach and making him coordinator and keep letting him dictate the talent. Its nuts. I don't even waste time thinking about it to be honest, the whole thing is bad.

at least with Romo he can correct what seems to not work on the fly and get the ball to the best players and move the team.

its going to be a long 4 or so weeks till romo comes back.

That's fair and I agree he's ahead of the curve but, again, those ready to send Romo packing and roll with the great Dak Prescott look pretty dumb right now. At some point that WILL be the case. I'm in no hurry to hasten that process. Romo makes that defense pay for loading up against the run like they did today. Prescott has no idea how to even approach that yet.

Yes. Tony is the only reason we have a chance to make the playoffs this season.

That's just typical fan hyperbole. Most people felt that he would be really good at the pro level, even those who hated the pick. He still might be. Yes, ROY is still possible, but the team has to play better overall or we'll be passing to come from behind which would surely affect his stats and progress.

Oh please. They dropped several of his passes. He played well under the circumstances, but it's too early to say what the future holds.

It wasn't too early a few short weeks ago when we were all pumping him up. He was the rookie phenom everyone was talking about, including me. I don't even know if I was watching the same QB today. He was wildly inaccurate in the second half which should be very concerning.

Widely inaccurate isnt what I saw. Doug Free was beaten like a drum against a washed up JPP. He played well under pressure, even though they routinely rushed 3.

It's one game. From a rookie. Not much to draw conclusions on.

But I have to admit, the second half was pretty rough, in particular. The ball was being sprayed. The ball was off. He showed the ability to handle the moment. But didn't have the accuracy to get the job done.

Actually it was too early a few weeks ago as well. He definitely played better in the first half, but I expected him to struggle as the game went on which is why we should've scored TDs early. He put us in position to do just that. Rookie QBs need to play from ahead, not behind. The offense blew it early and the defense blew it late. I would be more concerned if we had a running game and he looked bad under those circumstances. Dropped passes, no run game, unspectacular defense. He had too much to overcome, sort of like Romo.

Not an easy TD and those passes would've been easy if Beasley was a foot taller and not running full speed(high and behind). Not knocking Dak. Good first game but still needs time.
Dez one on one should come down with it easily. He rarely does. He's a bum.

If it hits Beasley in the hands, it's hardly wildly inaccurate, especially with pressure in his face.

It got to the point that I was holding my breath when he went downfield or threw to the middle of the field. He was bad the second half. Really no other way to describe it. But the staff didn't do him many favors either.

If you include pathetic coaching as well I'll give you a like.

did they shut down Dak - or did they shut down the receivers Bryant and Williams? Witten and Beasley looked to be running roughshod through the Giants backfield. those two late-game drops by Witten and Bryant as each lost sight of a good pass coming from Prescott inside a nasty patch of sunlight and glare. smh

I agree, I did not see the outside guys running wide open, actually the opposite, the Giants will be a top 5-7 D this year, they have great corners, great DE's and good DL as a whole. They spent a lot of money on that side of the ball and it looks like it is going to pay off for them. Unfortunately.

He was uncomfortable, which is what schemes do - they take away the things you're good at and force you out of your comfort zone. He also had to play under tremendous pressure, which is lacking in the preseason - whether people want to admit it or not. You lose in the preseason and... well, nothing. You lose on opening day and you're 0-1.

I think his accuracy is a concern, as is his velocity. People want to blame Beasley for drops but when you throw the ball at 70 miles an hour and high enough that he has to jump for it from 15 yards away I don't really count that as a drop. I count that as a pass that needs refining.

But he's a rookie who was supposed to be a long term project. It took 2 injuries to make him the week 1 starter. Viewed in that light he did a terrific job. But the people who were freaking out about his preseason success now know what others meant when they said he was playing vanilla defenses in meaningless games.

You had a QB who led the team to a 36 minute time of possession, numerous scoring chances, and having to settle with field goals.

Horrible WR play, dropped passes, and a defense that let Giant's players have wide open catches and runs.

Dak played great for what was around him. Dez and Cole need to catch those passes. Dak rolled out of pressure against a very good DL and placed the ball where it should have been impressively.

I think we agree that a 4th round pick should never throw the ball 45 times with this line. I think he played well with what he was given.

Correct.
None of those passes he mentioned were easy at all.
