What would you do about Roy? Trade him?

The Roy hate is getting out of control. Seriously. Everything gets blamed on the guy. He had an average game against the Pats, not great, not bad. He is not the reason we lost. He was pretty solid in coverage. The Pats beat up mostly on Nate Jones, Ken Hamlin and Jacques Reeves. Yet I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that there would be a 20 page long thread (that had to be merged other, smaller threads) talking about how bad Roy sucks and how Roy cost us the game and that we need to get rid of Roy. ROY IS NOT A PROBLEM. ROY IS NOT THE REASON WE LOST ON SUNDAY. ROY IS A VERY GOOD, SOMETIMES GREAT, PLAYER. YES, ALL CAPS ARE ANNOYING BUT SO IS GOING TO YOUR FAVORITE WEBSITE AND SEEING A BUNCH OF RIDICULOUS THREADS CLOGGING UP THE FRONT PAGE TALKING ABOUT HOW WE NEED TO GET RID OF ONE OF THE BEST PLAYERS ON A 5-1 TEAM.

I have read this whole thread! :bang2: It took hours off my life! However, I do have to agree that Roy is responsible for not being able to cover two guys at the same time! That is pretty sad.

If Roy would not wear that damn baggy shirt under his pads he would be faster and be able to play coverage...but NO! His coverage is more important to his arms...with a baggy shirt! :bang2:

That is all on the equipment guy. Someone need to fire him and insure that Roy wears tight shirts instead of that baggey stuff because it slows him down! It the scheme of the clothing that is causeing him to be beaten on plays that he has two guys to cover...he just loses to much speed with all the crap hanging off his arms...

Trade the sucker...for a new shirt!

Understand terminology.

I also understand geometry - as in the area we're talking about. 6 yards is 18 feet deep.

And did it look like Roy played zone on the Moss TD?

Again, you're talking about putting Moss and Watson and Roy Williams in 18 feet of field. I don't see that as good offensive playcalling.

Maybe that's why it didn't happen.

I have more interest in what did happen rather than what might have happened.

Just say who should cover whom on each play. (Your answers for each question should include the words "Roy should cover ...," "Newman should cover ..." and "Hamlin should cover ...")

1) Watson runs a curl in front of Roy and Moss runs a fade into the back corner. Who covers whom? Moss would be in Newman's zone and Watson would be in Williams'

2) Watson runs a curl to the back of the end zone and Moss runs a curl to the front. Who covers whom? How does Watson run a curl from where he was? And how does that 'curl' end up in the back of the end zone?

3) Watson runs an out along the goal line and Moss runs a fade to the back. Who covers whom? In this great offensive play, do Watson and Moss actually run into each other? Or maybe they just sandwich Newman between them?

4) Watson runs a curl to the back of the end zone and Moss runs an in along the goal line in front of Roy. Who covers whom?

Again, how does this 'curl' end up in the back of the end zone?

No one has called you on this but I am guessing you never actually played football.

Your first statement is about 6 yard....ok it was 6 yards to the goalline but you do realize there are another 10 yards behind that right? You can run people into that area. So he was defending an area 16 yards deep or 48 ft. However you like it. Haven't played the game much huh?

now in the AdamJT part you ask how does he run a curl. Simple he runs to the back of the endzone and turns around and comes back slowly towards the QB. Hence curl.

in number 3 you really show your lack of football knowledge. This is a very simple patter that is run all the time. Moss runs a Fade and Watson runs 5 yards and heads towards the sideline, why would they bump into each other? The patterns compliment each other.

No wonder you think Roy messed up you don't even understand basic football.

Your actually pretty lucky i had a little Photoshop I did to show you how the patter was run, but I don't know how to convert from a photoshop image to a jpg.

No Roy is a PART of the problem. He had a couple more on Sunday but there have been instanes all season long where he is making mental mistakes that are costing us points. The corners release the receiver to the safety and Roy is no where to be found..... I think we are starting to see Newman have less patience with this as the season goes on also.

Tex

Roy is part of the solution, the problem is he is stuck chasing WR all over creation once they blow by our patchwork corners. :bang2:

My beef with Roy isn't that he is a liability in coverage based on his physical attributes, it's that he hasn't developed the "football smarts" I would expect him to have at this stage in his career.

Physical limitation can be made up for by playing sound technique, being in good position based on the coverage, and most of all, hard mental work in the film room.

It is my impression that he is mentally lazy at times and seems to guess 'wrong" a lot. However, i'm glad he talked to the media after the game. He must face the music in order to get better. Not making the pro bowl this year will probably force the issue even more.

I think that's a fair statement. He also seems to be using some really poor tackling techniques. You've got arms, use them.

After his first year and a half, I was expecting a lot more at this point. I don't think he is really a player that offensive coordinators lose much sleep about.

hey guys, i just farted. for real.

pretty stupid thing to come onto a message board and say, i guess. but so is half of everything that's been said in this thread. just wanted to fit in.

honestly speaking...what is roy williams trade value?? I dont think its as high as most think. Opposing offensive coordinators often target him....so he would have to go to a team who already has good coverage DB and just need a "thumper" back there. My guess is that Roy Williams gets u a 2nd rounder at best.

We've been doing this. With Watkins at free safety, and Roy in the box.

:lmao2: I swear, do any of these people actually sit down and watch the games? or do they just come on here, and take the non-sensical rants of those who don't understand the game of football as gospel? or maybe they just don't understand the game?

seriously, posts *****ing about Colombo, who's been more than fine, except run-blocking, but they're *****ing about his pass-blocking, Roy getting burnt, "every single time", Romo being "gung-ho" these last 2 weeks, when it was just 1 week, 2 weeks ago

cerial?

Am I missing something this year? Clearly Roy sucks in coverage, as do quite a few SS's, but he's been covering the TE's better this year, and thank goodness, we have a DC who is smart enough not to have him playing in the deep patrol where we've been using Hamlin and Watkins.

The defense gave up nothing for two straight games before the NE game, and we got torched by a great QB who had a great performance...had we been able to keep the same pressure on Brady all second half like the first half and cut down on the penalties that stifled our offense a few times, the game would not have gotten away from us.

When we had the 27-24 lead, was our defense sucking then? I have no problem with it...Our offense was moving pretty freely at times on their defense too. Reeves, imo, is improving and playing well enough to not even bother me as a starter...once Henry is back, Reeves will benefit greatly from this experience in the nickel. This team needs to get healthy at CB and stay that way, and next year we need to get more quality depth at the position.

I think Roy has been playing pretty well this year, and I was one of his biggest critics last year when he was used in pass coverage too much.

Once everyone is healthy, I'll be very happy with Hamlin and Watkins deep, Reeves, Henry, and TNew playing CB, and Roy replacing a LB in the nickel.

Argh, how many times must we go over this?

Over the past 5 seasons (and 6 games this year), Roy Williams has accounted for more turnovers (19 INTs, 11 FF, 5 FR, total of 35) than ANY PLAYER IN FOOTBALL.

That includes Ed Reed, Champ Bailey, etc.

The man just makes plays. He has his deficiencies, but in the end he makes more plays, statistically, than anyone.

But he gets lit up like a Christmas Tree and doesn't wrap up when he tackles..

I keep saying this, people who hate on Roy so much need to ACTUALLY WATCH OTHER TEAMS PLAY.

After enough observation they will be thanking the Roy Williams for being a Cowboy.
