Not really. Unless you’re one of those who believed the 5-3 that followed was part of a conspiracy. Which is lunacy.

Never said I believed that...but he was the OC, was he not? Did the offense score enough to win during that 1-7 stretch? No? Then he contributed to those losses. Fact.

Maybe with his career earnings he can open a curio shop in the Petworth area of DC and sell knick knacks, vape pens, organic dog treats, and cbd oils.
Arcane! I just encountered curio shops for the first time in Tanzania this summer, didn’t realize that they were a thing.

He finished 24-24 with a roster that was not a .500 roster. That’s not underperforming.
A roster with a superstar QB that was in the playoffs in 2009. You are correct that the roster was not a .500 roster but they should have finished ABOVE the .500 mark. Garrett repeatedly made the same mistakes over and over costing the team at least 2-3 wins a season during those initial 8-8 seasons.

If I lived in a cardboard box for 10 years and finally upgraded to a one bedroom apartment above a laundry mat in the middle of a slum, am I now in a better place? Absolutely. Am I content? Absolutely not.
That’s the reason we made a coaching change is we aren’t content with where we are. But I’d argue we are in a better place than when Garrett took over.

Ok. So Garrett's first 3 full years he was 8-8 each year. He finished 8-8.

Are the Cowboys in a better place? By your own definition, no.

It's the very definition of mediocre. That may be fine with you and a few others. But it's not good enough for me a d many others
We have to go back to 1-7 to measure where we were when Garrett took over. And we also have to go back to where we were in drafts, free agents and personnel decisions. The entire direction of our franchise progressed under Garretts influence.

Blaming it on the roster is a flat out lie. Revisionist history, attempted by those who still can't admit, despite a decade of evidence, that Garrett was never head coaching material. Anyone who might be unsure is free to go and look at the roster for themselves and prove without doubt that it was coaching and not roster, just like it was this year. Nothing ever changed under Garrett, it was always on the talent to overcome the obvious shortcomings in coaching.

Defensively those 8-8 teams set futility marks in NFL history and were statistically some of the worst in Cowboys history. There were comparisons made defensively to teams in NFL history who hadn’t won more than 4 or 5 games.

To Romo’s credit during his prime he practically single handily kept those teams competitive. And Garrett helped guide thru several off field controversies including overcoming the death of a player . The fact we were even in it until the final week was a tribute to Tony and Jason.

I can’t recall a situation where we’ve attributed so much credit to an OC for the overall results of a team .

I guess we should also count the division titles and playoff appearances he was a part of in 2007 and 2009 as part of the critique of his coaching tenure here?

That would make it 5 division titles and 5 playoff appearances in 13 years.

It’s not arbitrary. There was a period where the roster was rebuilt. After that was done, he won a lot of games and qualified for the postseason fairly regularly.
Yep

Just last year there was chatter about how only the Patriots had won more games since Dak took over in last 3 years. But Garrett didn’t receive any credit.

In one breath there’s been so much support for Daks winning ways in the regular season but none for Jason. I’d argue it’s hypocritical.

I think most of us who supported Garretts positive influence here overall realize why this coaching change came about. In the end we expect more success in the playoffs. And Garrett didn’t deliver.

5 playoff appearance..yes, let's talk about those..and how woeful the performance was in 4 of those. And a division title in a division of garbage isn't all that impressive.

I was listening to the Joe Judge's introductory presser yesterday and I thought I was listening to Garrett. Same mantra, same talking points. My guess is he ends up in NY as OC.

In 4 of those divisional round playoff games we were one possession away from advancing to a championship game. The first one ended with an interception. The 2nd the catch that wasn’t. The third a miraculous 3rd and 20 and the last a failed last possession . I wouldn’t call those garbage. I’d call them heartbreaking losses having a great opportunity in all to win.
