Where was Demarcus Lawrence all night?

Are you the same person that said I wasn't football intelligent enough to have this conversation with??? I may be wrong. I get you type of guys mixed up sometimes.

Nope.
But you're wrong, and the defense was really good. Those numbers don't lie. It's good to hold ANY NFL team to that. Will win LARGE majority of the time doing that.

Guys, he's just not a very good player, anyone who watched him in college (against poor competition) knows that he's just too finesse for the NFL.

Lawrence had a good pressure on Manning the play after Crawford got his sack. Other than that, he was quiet, but he did get chipped a bit in the game.

To me it not just about the stats. As everybody was saying (insert high pitched voice) "the Giants are a bad team". My concern is how MY team plays fundamentally. I want us to look like a well coaches disciplined team. Especially against inferior talent.
ill take results over whatever it is that you look for. you take out a dwayne harris reverse and eli scramble out the giants running backs averaged 3.47 yards a carry. most teams will allow you to dink and dunk but we held OBJ to what 44 yards? i mean come on, i think you were expecting a 85 bears type of performance? thats unrealistic

They had a back chip him or a TE to his side most of the night, unless Gregory was on the field. The TE they had to his side was no Gavin escobar but a guy that was almost a small lineman in Fells.

Because their game plan almost beat a much stronger team (in my opinion) on the road. The Cowboys had the largest spread going into week 1, and the Giants came to within 1 point of beating us. They're game plan was spot on, and save some knuckle-headed decision-making in the last 2 minutes of the game, that strategy would have prevailed.

Now, I will grant you that a big contributing factor to the success of their strategy was that we kept shooting ourselves in the foot all night.

Still in all, the reason why I brought up the strategy in the first place was because it was designed to neutralize the pass rush (and did so pretty effectively).

If we look at the glass-half-full however, I am HEARTENED by the fact that the Giants felt compelled to abandon the big play all night in favor of the quick-release, dink-and-dunk stuff. They did this because they were afraid of our pass rush.

When was the last time a team had to design a game plan to avoid our pass rush?

The glass-half-empty side of this coin, however, is that our (potentially) strongest pass rusher is out for a to-be-announced timeframe (I'm waiting for the MRI before we begin sighing a collective breath of relief).

I hope they prove me wrong, but I don't see that fear of our pass rush influencing opposing game plans until after the bye week (which is all the more reason why we really need Demarcus to step up his game over the next few weeks).

What actually almost beat the Cowboys last night had very little to do with the Giants offensive game plan and all to do with the dropped passes to end drives in the first half and then the turnovers that led to a Giants lead. Cowboys were playing catch up the rest of the game.

I saw him get close a few times. However, he will need to step up his game at least until hardy gets back because he is the only one on the edge that has the ability to do things and win regulalry. If he couldn't get to the qb with Gregory in there, it'll be that much harder with mincey. Guess where the opposing rb or te will be chipping.

Defense looked good but we still can't get crucial stops.

That is the problem with our scheme... We'll allow a team to dink and dunk us all day..

Eli was in Eli mode last night.. Not making mistakes and just throwing underneath as soon as the ball is snapped.

Nailed it on the head Catch. I try to keep an open mind when it comes to our defense. Dating back to last year we have not been dominating on that side of the ball. I don't really expect us to be either. We play a bend don't break D that is dependent on causing turnovers and playing good redzone D. They are a bunch that will find a different unique way to get the job done every week IMO.

I'm a little worried about DLaw thus far. He showed me alot of what I saw when we drafted him, which was a SDE w/out alot of quickness. I was hoping to see more of DET playoff DLaw. It's early though so we will just have to wait and see.

As much as I hate to say so, the Cowboys were obviously playing preseason football in the regular season last night. Their determination to keep everyone free from dings and injuries appeared to come at a costly price.

The pass rush wasn't quite as bad as the stats would lead many to believe, however. To be honest, Eli has always gotten the ball out quickly, well before sacks are likely to occur. The D-line did manage to hurry him enough on many occasions, though -- enough to cause many of his passes to be erroneously thrown and incomplete.

Far too many errors, careless ballhandling and turnovers seemed to be our calling card that nearly caused a pathetic disaster to rule our opening day. If it were not for some astounding heroics by Romo, Dunbar and Witten to close out the game with a win, our Cowboys would certainly have been sporting red faces all week.

D-Law's performance wasn't anything to get excited about, that's for certain but there'll be other opportunities for him to make up for his less than impressive performance. Let's hope he finds a way to make the most of them. He'll need to learn to rely more heavily upon his moves and quickness than brute strength against the brutish offensive tackles he'll face on a weekly basis in the NFL. I think the his film reviews might well reveal that.

This is where I question if people actually watched the game.

Manning had a quick release last night. It was 3-5 step drop and pass. Unless you thought every play would break down the line immediately, I'm not sure what you expected our D-Line to do.

In that sense, the pass rush had a significant impact on the game before the game ever started. The Giants are usually a down-the-field type passing team, but came into the game last night determined to get the ball out quickly. Every pass Manning threw was quick and short. That was a result of their fear of our rush against the relative inexperience of their OL. It was a good strategy on their part, but really limited what they were able to do.

Our team looked like a team that didn't play much together in the preseason.
