Where was Demarcus Lawrence all night?

You're never going to pressure a QB when he's getting rid of the ball in one second.

There really is no way to evaluate the passrush based on last night.

I can't believe folks can't see this. I really can't.

And in reality....there was pressure. When Eli went to throw past 15 yards, it was there. We missed on a couple close sacks and Crawford actually shared one. (Was it Gregory or Lawerence that got Elis's legs/)

Plus....not to make excuses but Mincey was getting straight up mugged.

I am not so sure the Giants where afraid of our pass rush as much as this is their new offense that started last year. They are no longer running the scheme that they use too which would have them throw deep all the time.

They made a conscious effort last year to run this type of offense, remove all the int's and get Manning completion percentage up.

I'm not sure you watched the same game I did but the defense played very well.

The Giants scored 17 of their 26 points off turnovers.

Yeah the defense was fine yesterday. You give me that all year long and we will be in the Super Bowl. You can't ask for much more than that. People are nit picking but the defense as a hole was fine. Will this same effort be good enough against the Eagles? I don't know. But this week it was good enough. I'll complain about it when it costs us a game.

Lawrence didn't look good in preseason either. He's just not very fast or strong.

We'll see in future games if he's got the potential they were hyping him to have. It's early yet and there's still room for him to get stronger and develop some moves to get free. Seems odd how the staff was making it a point to emphasize his surprising strength, though. His somewhat smallish size possibly means he'll have to rely on more than a bullrush to find success. Here's hoping Marinelli finds a way to help him get more penetration.

Boise St. Alum here.....

You got 2 things happening here.

1. Lawerence didn't get a lot of snaps in the pre-season......so I think he was a little gassed playing so many snaps this 1st game. This really doesn't concern me.

2. What concerns me more though......Him starting @ LDE and taking on bigger RTs and asking him to take on the run for 60+ snaps.

Where he is gonna be best utilized is as a situational pass rusher....2nd and long....3rd and long. Cowboys need someone to step up @ LDE (Ryan Russell/J.Crawford) to take some of the dirty work off Lawerence.

Yeah, it's been their plan since they brought in Mcadoo. They want to get the ball out quickly, doesn't matter who they play.

Agree.....When is the last time you saw a holding penalty called against the Giants?............Answer...Never .....As long as I can remember. Ever since the Giants traded for Eli....We haven't got a single holding call vs their O-line. And trust me......they hold all the time and get away w/ it. It's frustrating.:banghead:

The defense gave up 9 points.

Sheesh. He was fine.

the igs hates you.

Because their game plan almost beat a much stronger team (in my opinion) on the road. The Cowboys had the largest spread going into week 1, and the Giants came to within 1 point of beating us. They're game plan was spot on, and save some knuckle-headed decision-making in the last 2 minutes of the game, that strategy would have prevailed.

Now, I will grant you that a big contributing factor to the success of their strategy was that we kept shooting ourselves in the foot all night.

Still in all, the reason why I brought up the strategy in the first place was because it was designed to neutralize the pass rush (and did so pretty effectively).

If we look at the glass-half-full however, I am HEARTENED by the fact that the Giants felt compelled to abandon the big play all night in favor of the quick-release, dink-and-dunk stuff. They did this because they were afraid of our pass rush.

When was the last time a team had to design a game plan to avoid our pass rush?

The glass-half-empty side of this coin, however, is that our (potentially) strongest pass rusher is out for a to-be-announced timeframe (I'm waiting for the MRI before we begin sighing a collective breath of relief).

I hope they prove me wrong, but I don't see that fear of our pass rush influencing opposing game plans until after the bye week (which is all the more reason why we really need Demarcus to step up his game over the next few weeks).

So they game planned getting 17 points handed to them? Riiiiiiiight.

The only time DLaw's name came up all night was when he was called for a penalty.

He was also chipped 5 times by a RB and was chipped a couple of times by a TE.

The Giants were paying a lot of attention to him.

That's no excuse if he's going to be a solid player he's going to have to learn how to deal with that and still make some plays. Opponents paid a lot of attention to Ware but he still showed up and made plays.
