Who should we root for Sunday GreenBay or Philly?

you don't think the Cowboys would have a better chance of winning if philly was favored?

No, because this will be a very important game against an excellent Philly team that ended the Cowboys season at home last year. These 2 games vs Philly could mean the playoffs for the Cowboys. If they aren't motivated for this game especially at home on Thanksgiving nothing can motivate them. The Cowboys don't have to be the underdog to be fired up for this game Philly leads the division.

Even if the Cowboys are favored many will pick Philly partially due to all 3 of the Cowboys losses this season coming at home. This won't be like when a 2-5 Washington team showed up on Monday Night a few weeks ago. Philly has a championship caliber team and if the Cowboys don't have their chin straps buckled up for this one they'll get blown out.

As I said earlier, the odds of sitting home for the playoffs for a fifth straight year go up if the Packers win, not if the Eagles win. An Eagles loss would raise our chances of winning the division, but it would hurt our chances of making the playoffs at all.

If your goal is to get into the playoffs any way possible, then you root against the Packers. If you'd rather not even make the playoffs if we don't win the division, then you root for the Packers. In other words, are you going to go all-in on winning the division, or are you going to hedge your bet in an attempt to avoid missing the playoffs again? That's the Cowboys fan's dilemma this week.

Last Cowboys road playoff win..................22 years ago.....................wildcard screams "one and done" to me..............if you want to win a playoff game then winning the division should be the goal since you get a home playoff game.

22 years? My lucky number(Smith)....I like it.

In all seriousness, I agree that we need to win the division but if we do go on the road(assuming we make it), I would prefer SF or DET, I would be ok with that. Dallas plays well on the road lately................

That is why I will be sick if they win at GB because they will be facing us with a 9-2 record. But the Cowboys play better when they are the underdog. But still would rather have them at 8-3 on Turkey Day instead of 9-2

If Philly arrives in Dallas on Thanksgiving 9-2 with wins over Green Bay and Seattle the Cowboys are going to be in serious trouble. Philly is looking scary even with Sanchez and any team that can beat down an opponent with their backup QB is a team to be reckoned with. I have to be honest I wasn't all that impressed with how the Cowboys looked vs JAX. They looked pretty good in the first half but just went through the motions in the second half. Was not happy with what I saw in the second half. Bortals passed for almost 300 yards. The Cowboys still lack a killer instinct. Had they finished off JAX the Cowboys could have taken Romo out early in the 4th quarter but Garrett didn't want to risk seeing yet another team overcome a big deficit to pull out a win against his team.

The Cowboys are not playing like they did in their first 7 games. I was very impressed those first 7 weeks but what I've seen lately has me sensing trouble may be lurking. Murray's rushing yards are starting to come down the past 2 games he just barely reached 100 vs JAX. The Cowboys have had a tendency over the past few years of returning from bye's and long weeks looking flat and uninspired. It will be interesting to see what Cowboys team shows up in NY in week 12. They have to start raising the level of their play when they return or they're going to be up against again heading into week 17. We're reaching the time of year when the contenders start to rise and the pretenders start to falter.

If we lose to the Giants in two weeks, the wheels could start to come off this thing. We really cannot afford any more loses right now. Philly probably loses to the Packers, but they get the sorry arse Titans the following week. The Titans have given up on the season and look like they are tanking it, they are sitting a healthy Jack Locker and starting a 6th round rookie the rest of the season. If that is not a tank job, I am not sure what is.

I totally agree if the Cowboys lose to the Giants it could be the beginning of the end. With Philly coming up twice in 3 weeks and having to face the Colts and Andrew Luck a loss to the Giants would be devastating. Not sure I would be giving the Packers the game vs Philly but it should be a good one. This is where Sanchez could start showing some cracks having to duel it out with Aaron Rodgers.

I'm just hoping Philly loses because the way they're playing right now I'm not sure the Cowboys can stay within 2 scores of them. The Cowboys have been getting behind in a number of their games this season including against JAX and with Philly's explosive fast pace offense they aren't a team you want to play come from behind against.

I am anxiously awaiting the Thanksgiving game just to see where we stack up against them.............the key to beating Philly is not to turn the ball over and no special team scores, make Sanchez consistently have to drive the team the entire length of the field each time they get the ball........................easier said then done, but that is how San Francisco and Arizona beat them....................... (Foles was at QB then however).

I disagree.

My post was stating the simple mathematical odds from multiple sources. As you stated, "anything can happen," and out of all of the possibilities of what might happen based on who plays who for the rest of the season and who is more likely to win those games, those sources have determined that our odds of winning the division go up if the Eagles lose, but our odds of making the playoffs at all actually go up if the Eagles win and go down if they lose. There's really nothing there to disagree with unless you think those calculations are wrong.

The math is correct.

Our chances of winning the division go up if Philly loses because instead of being one game behind them, we will be tied with them for first place.................no brainer there.

Our chances of making the playoffs overall go down if the Packers win because of the wildcard situation and teams having tiebreaker over us........................this assumes that we don't win the division of course.

I prefer to go with my own calculations. The odds on the Cowboys winning the division went up when Nick Foles went down. Anytime a division foe has to play with their backup QB for several games or possibly the rest of the season that improves your odds of overtaking them. There's still losable games on the Packers schedule once they get past Philly. They have NE and Detroit at home. The Vikings and Bills on the road are far from sure wins. The Packers currently have 3 losses like the Cowboys. AZ who holds a tie breaker over the Cowboys leads their division.

SF who holds a tie breaker over the Cowboys is one game back and the Cowboys hold a tie breaker advantage over Seattle who has 3 losses. A lot can change in the next 3 weeks but the Cowboys currently control their own fate and all they need to do to make the playoffs is worry about is their own business and win games. Winning the division can improve your seeding and lead to a possible bye which can be very valuable. I don't want to see the Cowboys just make the playoffs I want to see them advance.

I hate to say this but if Philly is able to shut down Murray, then Romo is going to have to shine because Philly will be able to score on us pretty easily. I see GB taking it to Philly. GB looks unstoppable right now on offense. Rodgers is absolutely tearing it up. I think GB is going to get the 2nd seed or even possibly the first seed. If I had to pick a team I thought would go all the way for the NFC it would be GB. Still a long ways to go and anything can happen along the way though. The Cowboys are simply going to have to beat Philly and win their vision to make the playoffs IMO.

The calculations I've seen on this (from 538) say that it's a 2.5 point swing resulting from the outcome of the GB-PHI game. To me, that's in the noise, easily swamped by the uncertainty in things like the delta between Foles and Sanchez. I'll be rooting for the Packers because the slight decrease in overall playoff odds is more than compensated for by the greater rewards of winning the division. Do other sources suggest a greater impact of this game?

Romo is 6-1 vs The Eagles in his last 7 starts and I believe he won't let us down. He is also 4-0 vs eagles in the last 4 games in Dallas

You must be anticipating the Cowboys to collapse. The Boys have a great chance to get a wild card if they don't win the division. But I digress... go GB.

I don't want to play GB at Lambeau in the playoffs, so I am kinda hoping Detroit wins the North. That said, we need Philly to lose, because winning the East is our first priority. So I guess I am rooting for Detroit against Arizona?

In a strange way it may be better if Philly beats Greenbay to get them to 4 losses. I just would feel better about our chances of making the playoffs if we have a cushion over the Packers because I don't think San Fran or Seattle will be able to catch or jump Dallas in the standings because all of those teams in the NFC west still have to play each other.

The tiebreaker over Seattle is a huge advantage for us. Big games this weekend with Detroit playing Arizona and Philly vs Greenbay.

You have to factor that if Dallas takes the division, Philly may have to go to GreenBay as a wildcard. Division first!
