OK - so I listened intently to Tuna's Press Conference yesterday (I love the fact that you can download it to your iPod). Anyway, he spent a lot of time toward the end of the PC talking about the blown FB coverage assignments over the past 2 games.

He said that someone on the defense was making mental errors on a really simple coverage scheme. This individual (it sounded like it was one culprit - although in previous PCs, Tuna has hinted that it might be 2 players) seems to have mixed up the coverage called, and blown the assignment.

Now, as best I could understand, Parcells stated that in a tight alignment (e.g., Goal Line), the ILB must cover the FB in the "flat first." So the defensive player will often shout out "flat first" to confirm the coverage.

For wider alignments, the OLB has responsibility for the FB in the flat.

To add further clues, Parcells stated that the culprit got beat on identical plays run by Atlanta and New Orleans on two consecutive weeks, making the same exact mistake twice.

Given all of the hints dropped, I ask the forum, who is the dummy that keeps blowing the FB coverage?

It is annoying/comical as hell by now.

Cripes even on a flag football team full of jokers you'd be able to solve the particular problem sooner than this.

Just have the one chubby doofus who isnt capable of covering any "real" skill players cover the FB no matter what. Even when the ball doesnt go to the FB then, it wont matter anyway cause he wasnt gonna make a play anywhere else regardless. ;)

I always felt Fowler wasnt too bright. I expect more from James.

uh you mean the kid who went to Duke is dumb???

I suspect it has more to do with James/Fowler being headbangers that are lost outside in the flats.

I hope it's that simple. I was blaming part of it on Ware. I'm glad he's not the culprit. He didn't talk about away from the goalline. I thought I saw confusion on Ware's part at least one play, another on RW, and then I can't tell because he's that wide open. I've rewatched games don't look at film because I think there is not a lot someone like me can learn esp blown coverages.

Are the WRs doing different things to create confusion over there as well? Seems Newman and someone else ??Newman got turned around on a 'pick' on the left which ended in a pass to the FB.

and George Bush graduated from yale. I can careless where a guy goes to school. When your first to flat (as simple as it comes) and you blow that coverage on 3 seperate occassions that result in TDs...something is not working upstairs...if you know what I mean.

Fowler didn't get grandfathers or fathered as it were, in to Duke.

Not like they are breaking rules to add to their football dynasty at Duke.

Any reason why you think Fowler is dumb?
He scored in the 30's on his Wonderlic.

Fowler graduated and was a good student while a Blue Devil. Duke has won the CFA's academic award (graduate %) more than any other school since 1990. The probable reason why we're near the bottom in win percentage, too.

if u look at all the replays of the TDs Roy Williams was the only person in all the replays, he was on that side against Atl when he looked like he had outside containment but dropped inside where Ware was in hit Crumpler. Roy was going outside to the FB than saw Crumpler in bit, So the answer has to be Roy..

Why would a guy lined up 10 yards off the LOS be responsible for the FB?

Well if he's talking about the play I'm thinking of where I noticed that too.. RW looked like he had a bead on the FB..was drifting that way.. but then stopped to deal with Crumpler.. but there was already someone in that spot behind Roy that could've dealt with him.

Thats not hanging it on RW cause who knows what was really supposed to happen.. but the point is this was deep in our own territory and the defenders in question where already in the endzone so it could be a safeties deal in that particular case.

Unlike if it were more towrds midfield and the safeties happened to be deeper than that at the snap of the ball.

It couldn't possibly be he was playing his rover spot and saw two uncovered defenders and had to choose! If Roy would have covered the FB, then Crumpler would have scored. Roy took the bigger threat which was also the qbs first read.

He's not necessarily the bigger threat if there was already someone positioned to "cover" him. Obviously the guy that goes uncovered altogether is a bigger 'threat" in that case.

Now that doesnt mean the defender Roy stopped in front of when he saw Crumpler come off the line shouldnt have been the one to cover the FB in the first place..but the point is there was a defender in decent enough position to try and cover Crumpler even if Roy would've kept on going out wide along with the FB.

Thats how I remember watching the play unfold on re-plays.. but maybe I was just seeing things.. and I dont have a way to look at it again.

cause roy can't cover remember? so all blown coverages are assigned to him by default.

Why is Fowler in the game? Is he better around the goal line than Bradie or Akin? If he keeps screwing up the coverages, why keep insisting that he play in this situation?

Sure fowler screws up the coverage, but the coaches should have pulled him by now for not doing his job. :bang2:
Fowler screwed it up once, but James has screwed it up multiple times.
