Why are people getting all bent out of shape regarding coaching hire?

Yep, both those guys could have been Cowboys, but when you have Jason Garrett running the show there is no need to even entertain the idea of other coaches.
I find it interesting that the Raiders are talking to Pete Carrol. And yet Dallas isn't even interviewing any of these former coaches like a Rex Ryan, Belichick and so on. Yet Jerry says he'd do anything to get another championship.

In 14 years as an offensive coordinator, Schottenheimer's offenses only ranked in the top 10 in total offense twice and were only top 10 in scoring five times. One of those years was in 2023 with the Cowboys, in which McCarthy was the one calling plays, with Dallas ranking fifth in total offense and first in scoring.

That it is a signals to the fan base that the Cowboys seemingly have zero interest in truly competing for a Super Bowl. If that were the case, they would have made it through the decision process.

Instead, Dallas interviewed two candidates with below .500 records in their career as head coaches who were subsequently fired, and two candidates with no previous experience at the position. By hiring Schottenheimer, they would be picking the one that was perhaps the least qualified of the bunch.

In other words, unless the Jones family sees something in Schottenheimer that other NFL teams haven't seen in the last 27 years, he is not the right choice to lead the franchise.

Jerry puts on a good show, but ultimately I struggle to see where any of his actions the last several years indicate winning a championship is his priority.

Oh stop.

This dude was dumped by 9 teams before Dallas.

He’s not qualified.
To a normal human who looks at success and track record, he's not qualified.

But for Jerry and Stephen? He's more than qualified - he'll be a pushover, he'll not rock the boat, he's cheap, he won't whine about FA, etc.

He meets all the criteria these two buttholes care about.

I'll tell you why this is got so many fans out of sorts. How many times has a coach been let go and you keep his OC? Forget everything else and just think about that. It makes very little sense. What hope does it give you that things will be any different?

and of course at the presser, members of the media will not hammer away with questions about this hire. They will ask a question, Jerry will dominate them and they will be too intimidated to ask a follow up.

He will by far be the lowest paid HC.

I would even bet there will be lots of OCs and DCs that make more than him next year.

I mean, we pretty much have no clue how things will work out either way. Hot shot assistant? No clue. College coach? No clue. Safe retread? No clue. Old legendary coach? No clue. Pay a first for coach that has won before. No clue.

I mean, Andy Reid was kicked out of Philly and now he's a legend I guess. Did anyone know anything about Sean McWay before the Rams hired him? Okay, I'm sure some of you did. But that is no different from all the other hot shots that tried and failed.

So if you want to complain about JJ because he's the common thread here, okay. But no one knows anything at all about which coach will work or not. And if you think no coach will work, I guess that's fair too. But at the end of the day, hire whomever for all I care. I'll still watch and see what happens.
hell, they get bent out of shape when rowdy is on the screen.

its just what they do.

Maybe no media member should show up. That would be great.

It's not even as much about the coach as it is whether or not Jerry and Stephen are actually willing to at least try to do what it takes to win which involves risks.

If they aren't willing to fight for the team, why should we?
