Why are people getting all bent out of shape regarding coaching hire?

He will by far be the lowest paid HC.

I would even bet there will be lots of OCs and DCs that make more than him next year.
because he is a freaking doofus, hatted everywhere he has been and only got a job because of his last name.this is kind of olds boys hire that jerry and his ******* son can live with because he knows he is not HC material and wont oppose anything the Jones boys do going forward.
The league needs to make new rules against this kind of behavior. It's a bad look on the NFL to allow such selfish behavior. The joneses are are a bad example of how the league should operate. And yet they make more money than all the other teams. Then turn around and treat the coaches like dirt. Not a good look.

I find it interesting that the Raiders are talking to Pete Carrol. And yet Dallas isn't even interviewing any of these former coaches like a Rex Ryan, Belichick and so on. Yet Jerry says he'd do anything to get another championship.
Jerry does not want to pay, what it would take, to get a legitimate coach.

Jerry wants to lead the way of setting new pay scales for head coaches based on performance, when he is the number one factor, restricting performance.

Andy Reid was one of the best coaches in NFL when Philadelphia fired him

Everyone know about McVay when the Rams hired. He had been one of the most sought after coordinators to come around in a long time
I’m SURE you’re right. Now fill in all the other hot shot assistants that failed. Way more of those.

if we went after Carroll, people here would whine we were getting an old retread on his retirement contract

No one should spend a dime on the Dallas Cowboys for a long time, open revolt against the Jones family is required.

It is not a good luck but Roger Goodell and the other owners would not automatically set any policy mandating owners to pay their coaches on a set scale. His peers may be too timid but I think Jerry Jones would instantly sue the league trying to coerce him into paying his coaches predetermined compensation--no matter how right it would be to do so.

You know what, I can see why they would hire him. We are stuck with Dak, so Jerry wasn’t going to blow up the offense and have Dak start learning an entire new offense.
We aren’t winning anything anytime soon so just ride out Dak’s contract, hit on some draft picks and clear cap space. It will be at least 4 or 5 more years before we are ready to contend again anyway.

I mean, we pretty much have no clue how things will work out either way. Hot shot assistant? No clue. College coach? No clue. Safe retread? No clue. Old legendary coach? No clue. Pay a first for coach that has won before. No clue.

I mean, Andy Reid was kicked out of Philly and now he's a legend I guess. Did anyone know anything about Sean McWay before the Rams hired him? Okay, I'm sure some of you did. But that is no different from all the other hot shots that tried and failed.

So if you want to complain about JJ because he's the common thread here, okay. But no one knows anything at all about which coach will work or not. And if you think no coach will work, I guess that's fair too. But at the end of the day, hire whomever for all I care. I'll still watch and see what happens.

First because this guy has 20 years of experience and his offenses have been forgettable. There is nothing to indicate he is capable of being a great coach or offensive mind.

These coaches are hired on potential and he has very little.

Reid was a great coach with Philly, he just couldn't get over the hump. He was widely respected and I was happy to see him gone. McVay was highly thought of as well.

Absolutely no one else is interested in Schottenheimer as a HC candidate.

I'm kind of with the OP, though. The outrage should be that Jerry didn't even try for the best coaches -- Belichick or Vrabel or maybe Ben Johnson.

With the lousy pool that's left, I'm not sure BS is worse than Kellen Moore or anyone else still remaining.

A lot will depend on the coordinators. Problem is, Jerry will probably cheap out there, too.

lol.

I’ll give you one reason. Just one of the 100 that make this a bad hire.

Solari most likely stays and so does the inside zone run scheme.

This isn’t inherently bad, however when you look at the front 7s of teams in our division, it makes you wonder why on earth they would do this.

I actually like Schottenheimer, but I have zero issue saying this would be a horrible hire for the lack of qualifications alone. What one his resume suggests that he should be a head coach other than longevity and a recognizable last name? At least a Kellen Moore has had top offenses in this league. At least a Leslie Frazier, Anthony Lynn, or Salah at least have prior HC experience. This is a slap in the face to other candidates, and seems to be a hire because hes friends with the owners son. These types of hires happen and get mocked in the business world all the time, a hire like this for the Cowboys should be no different.
Ok not an apologist............But just because ben johnson is maybe a good OC, how does that qualify him in any way
to be HC and leader of a team??......It doesnt.
Those other HC's wanting to be one again, have already FAILED ! Badly, how many times do you need to see them fail to think
well they just are not HC material?

Deion is just a short time college coach, who is mostly all talk, and has never coached any position in the nfl, so what
qualifies him to just jump to HC in nfl ? If he wins a national champ or 2 then maybe he qualifies.

Shot, no one knows, he may be real bad or real good, or just a ordinary failure, or avg 8-8 guy.
I think though he could maybe outdo JG if he had a good roster.

Right now the roster sucks, and no one knows if jones boys will do anything in FA, and if they dont it doesnt matter who the HC is anyway.

Oh stop.

This dude was dumped by 9 teams before Dallas.

He’s not qualified.
The main thing that's wrong with this hire is that he has failed at pretty much every stop and we will be asking him to do the thing he failed at (calling plays) plus something he's never done before (coaching an entire team).

We are bent out of shape because they didn't try to find a good head coach for the team but have instead settled for the cheapest option because they know him a bit and he has a famous last name.

Here come the apologists. It happens every time this team falls short of reasonable expectations.
:hammer: .....The only thing that's gonna save them face is if they hire Kellen or Kingsbury....and they had to wait...by league rules. But if they hire anyone else....oh boy....let the incompetent debates begin...
