Why are we in a rush to sign Dak?

If they plan to keep him they should be in a rush. The QB market is going up and they should be ahead of the curve. Extend him for another 3 to 4 years.

Yes, Dak does have the 'no trade' clause, but the Cowboys can play hard ball with him if Dak refuses to give the team a discount on an extension. If Dak refuses, simply let him play out his last remaining year (2024) on his current contract (will cost the team $60+ mil), then let him walk. As the current contract expires at the end of 2024, so does his 'no trade' clause. Start the negotiations this year and give him until the 2024 draft to accept a discounted new contract extension. If Dak refuses, draft his replacement either in the 1st or 2nd round of next year and let Dak play out his remaining contract for the 2024 season. That gives the young draft replacement time to learn the ropes from the sidelines for 1 year.
60 million dollar cap hit….we might as well forfeit that whole season…..

That’s the thing. You need to sign him ASAP if you are going to do it. Don’t let him improve his value and value.

Since they restructured Dak already there's really no rush to sign him. However, they have to do something with him next year. I would just play out the season and let his results dictate his contract.

Listen to the records predicted to the question at 8:42. What would the prediction be if it were another NFL QB that you really trusted? We all know who those QB's are. If we are predicting 1-3 or 2-2, what in the hell does that say about confidence in Dak's ability to go on a playoff run against the better teams? Especially if it's the Wild Card route. I think their answers SPEAK VOLUMES about the actual situation we are in, which is Booger and Chuckles inability to switch gears on the fly. I would call it paralysis by analysis, but that would be incorrect....there is zero analysis going on....only paralysis due to their own lack of confidence in making Howie Roseman type decisions. Signing Dak prior to letting 2023 run its course, would be asinine beyond belief.

If Dallas extends tha Deek chap before the 2023 season ends and the JAG falls on his face --- again --- Jerald will have egg all over his wrinkly yoda--like face.
On the other hand, if Deek is extended and he takes us deep into the playoffs, Jerald will tell us how brilliant he is, but tha might worth it for once.

I have no problem making Dak play 2023 and determine what he deserves in an extension. I also want to see Dak force his agent to give the Cowboys a discount if an extension is given to Dak. If Dak and his agent refuse to give a discount, definitely draft his replacement early in next year's draft. Tired of overpaying QBs, especially those who hold the team hostage.
:hammer:
Well said, lad. The Cowboys offer Deek a chance to show his greatness and his gratefulness to Jerald. Many, many fans would love your scenario. I should like to kiss your big forehead.

Sign CD and Diggs, and next year worry about Dak. The QB market is too high to miss, and we need another evaluation year.
We need another evaluation year??? We have already had 7. What could we possibly learn next year?

Longest tenured starting QB on one team in the league shouldn't need more evaluation.

Cowboys already screwed themselves one by waiting and waiting. After 2019 they could have signed him to $25M per year. Instead they waited and waiting and finally had to pay him $40M. Idiots.

If I’m not mistaken I thought Dak was a big part in waiting? He wanted a certain amount of years or something along those lines.

.
Doing it with a year left on his deal will allow them to drastically drop his cap hit next year.

It'll be something like 4x$55 but his cap hit will be around $25m for the life of it.
You've fallen for the hype. What you've said is both wrong and impossible.....unless Dak pays for next to nothing.

He's going to cost over $87m (2023-26) in PRORATED BONUS, so the Cap hit is going to be over $21m (per year) BEFORE HE's actually paid a dollar.

Stop looking at Hurts/Jackson deals as a comparison....a) theyre younger and b) no there's no arrears to payoff.

To see if he is going to continue to progress or if we already seen his best football. If he is going to play worst this year than he did last year, I would not want to sign someone long term. The issue is so many teams sign players that play good in the past then they drop (Zeke is a good example). He is already signed why put a rush into someone who is under contract.

Which is exactly why the decision on Dak can/should be made after the 2023 season. I agree he will not pay 2024 on the $59m CAP hit (which I believe, is actually higher as the Void Years money from 2025-26 gets accounted for in 2024), but what's the incentive for any of the parties to extend NOW?

a) there's no discount - so he's going to cost. Especially as Dak is getting paid $34m cash in 2024
b) coming off a down year, which MAY be the start of age related decline.
c) there's a decent if not good QB draft class in 2024
d) we can save $34m off the 2024 CAP hit if we (post -June) cut him.
e) we have a much better and settled roster than we did when when Dak signed in March 2020.....remember we were coming off his injury year and we were over a barrel and desperate ..... that's no longer the case.
