Why are we taking so much risk on our roster when we are supposed to be contending in the NFC

It has nothing to do with mismanagement kickers are streaky. Most teams have problems with them. Every year a few teams are looking for a new kicker. Very few kickers stay consistent for a long period of time. We got lucky with Dan Bailey for six years before he went into a funk.
Okay cool...we are fine at kicker then.

Bailey had an insane streak there for awhile....fer sure.

The kicker situation is a real head scratcher,,,
They feel that Aubrey can do the job. They like him. I repeat they like him. He has the leg to kickoff and his field goals get up in the air high off his foot.

He also saves them money on the cap that can be used in other areas.

There will be kicker cuts in a few weeks.
Can play the what if game for every position. Not worried about RB. This ain't the 80s or 90s.

Most teams don't even have 2 very good OL yet dallas front 5 on paper is very good.
You expecting proven backups and 5 good starters?
Will be a flooded market, those panicking this early are being silly little bettys.

Where did I say we’re fine at kicker? All I’m saying is you’re sifting through trash looking at kickers this time of year. They all have consistency issues, which is why they’re available, but some of you act like there’s great kickers out there but the Cowboys refuse to sign them. Lol

I am too. A 12-5 playoff team improved significantly.
How much we’ve improved remains to be seen. There’s plenty of questions going into the season. We have a new offense with a new play caller. Our depth on the OL is very questionable. Our starters are solid, but there’s a big drop off with the backups. There’s questions at RB2. There’s some out there who think our offense could drop off this season, especially if Dak continues to throw picks. Our defense looks very solid and could take another jump this season, but I’m not going to be sold until I see if we can maintain our level of play throughout the season. I want to see our defense continue to improve as the season goes on, not begin to sputter out.

Well, an established kicker would give me greater confidence than a rookie.
We did bring one in with three years of experience, but he was erratic. The Cowboys were his fifth team since 2020. The one positive bringing in a rookie is maybe they end up turning out real good. Some of the best kickers the Cowboys had, Efren Herrera, Toni Fritsch and Dan Bailey were rookies. The established kickers we’ve had the past few years aren’t maintaining their consistency and end up in a funk.

At kicker we have a totally unproven guy that even if he turns out good will at best be as Gould last year and at worst kills our season?
At runningback we are putting all our faith that Pollard stays healthy and if he gets hurt then what we have no proven backs behind him?
At oline we have 5 good starters but any injury and it will immediately fall apart?

We have 18 million dollars in cap money? Make one year deals? There is legitimately no excuse to take so many risks on what should be a contending team. To me it feels like they want to be competitive but don't want to take the necessary steps to actually push us over the top.
Jerry has been short sighted on all 3 areas. Maybe they think they can sign Peters again at Oline of they have to.

The kicker stupidity I will never understand. Its 3 million for a good kicker.

Every team struggles with good depth on the OL. Watch those preseason games and tell me you don't notice a sharp drop in quality OL out there.

Fair point.

I just am nervous.
The NFL is so competitive that several games a year come down to a FG.

Could be the difference between being a playoff team or not.

Any time you’re entering the season with a new kicker you have to hold your breath. Some fans are acting like we could have done better when all the kickers that are available are either unproven rookies or veterans that have been kicked to the curb.

Even unproven rookies are better than sticking with guys that are consistently missing. Try SOMETHING. ANYTHING!

I am seeing no threads about how we are contenders or the like but there is about a thread a day planning for failure like you are doing here.

kicker health and depth are your concerns. this is the NFL where most teams cannot fill out a starting 22 with competent players. Look at the Eagles and their LB and S for example.

I think you are setting unreasonable expectations. This is not the 1980s where you can keep more than a handful of proven vets without paying them.
