because we go from Monte Kiffin to Rod Marinelli two very conservative defenses that does not do well in todays NFL I'm guessing. The game has passed both coaches by but we want to hang on to their previous accomplishments.

It starts and ends w/ poor coaching and scheme. We have a coordinator that can take some of the best talent in the league and turn it into crap...almost instantly.

Dallas has much more money poured into the offense. Defensively they are in the bottom half of expenditures on defense...IIRC.

We drafted Lawrence with the 34th pick and Mo in the top of the first. Lee was drafted in the second and Jones at safety in the late first round. Is it that we dont know what we are doing or are these players not living up to expectations? Mo looked like a steal when we drafted him and stayed hurt his entire time in dallas.
We have invested all our capital in the offense.

Nothing for defense.

So you get what you pay for.

When we were winning SBs..

we had defensive coaches like Landry and Johnson as HC.

They would build the defense first then the offense.

Here..becuz of 14 years with Romo..

we kept being Romo Friendly..

which striped this Franchise of any balance b/w the sides of the team.

So here we are..

watching this team fail again.

Nothing new.

two defensive ends, two defensive tackles, three linebackers, two cornerbacks, and two safeties

Sure, we could have spent more resources, but the bottom line is we have misfired on the high draft picks we have made on that side of the ball.

Byron Jones - Should be one of our defensive leaders based on draft position. Instead, he's average at best.
Sean Lee - Terrific, but often hurt.
DeMarcus Lawrence - Becoming our best defensive player, but his career has been marred by injury and suspension.
Randy Gregory - Has failed more drug tests than he has sacks.
Morris Claiborne - Drafted to be a star. Never overcame injuries and didn't seem to fit this defensive staff's philosophy.

The list goes on.

Compare that to the offensive side of the ball.

Dez Bryant - Pro Bowl WR.
Zack Martin - All-Pro.
Travis Frederick - All-Pro.
Zeke Elliott - All-Pro.

Even at their worst -- Dez's inconsistencies; Zeke's slow start -- they far, FAR outshine the contributions made by that defensive list.

Our D was decent during the Wade Phillips era. Not great but not as bad as we have seen under Kiffin and Marinelli.
And still you had players like Jacques Reeves. Who helped facilitate the Giants win in the 2007 divisional round.

It's already time to replace Williams and Dez isn't far behind...

When your draft attitude is to "steal" these supposed high upside guys that have issues and they dont pan out, it gets us where we are now. Its ok to try and find these type guys once in awhile, but it seems that it is their draft strategy right now. Their entire strategy is to get something for nothing in the draft and they are blind to talent that is there for the taking.

Rob will probably be the escape goat and be let go after this season. Then who will be the fall man for Garrett?

I question why do we still have Rob as DC and the special teams coach (whom have been bad with his unit). I guess being 13-3 made the whole organization happy. Well we see how much they suck now. Could go either way saying is it the coaches or is it the players? Answer is we will never know but this defensive scheme sucks and our special teams unit constantly sucks only good thing on special teams is our kicker and our punter.

I wish i knew the answer. I guess everyone points to the coordinator but we haven't had a really good defense in a long tme and a bunch of coordinators. We have to get the young guys out there and playing. They have to learn and we have to see what we have.

We havent put enough resources into it. We had a chance to take Jalen Ramsey. We went with a RB. We had a chance to take Myles Jack, we took some guy that really can't play due to injury. We had a chance to take TJ Watt, we took a guy named Taco. Fans could do a better job drafting defense than our FO. No doubt in my mind I could. We have to draft defense early and often.
This was like getting punched in the gut.

Just look at the 1st rd picks that stock the OL and you have your answer to why the defense is in such bad shape. What other club has so much invested in the OL.
