CFZ Why do people keep saying Dak has to play great 4 straight games in the playoffs?

How many QBs have had 4 straight perfect games in the playoffs. People need to accept that playoff defenses are typically badasses. Qbs almost never got to town in every game in the playoffs. Some completely poop the bed but get bailed out by other aspects of their team. Anybody remember Ruthlessraper's 27 passer rating in his first Super Bowl win? How about Brady's INTs on three consecutive possessions in the NFC Championship two years ago? Or better yet is 71 passer rating performance against the Rams in 2018? Or how about his classic 150 yard "masterpiece" in his first Super Bowl agaisnt the Rams? Or maybe Mahomes 78 passer rating with 2 INT performance against the 49ers while WINNING the Super Bowl?

I really wish people would move off this whole "This QB can carry his team" kick. It's just not true and I'm really getting tired of hearing it. Nobody is carrying 47 other guys. I really get sick of the media constantly foisting this brain dead narrative upon us. Yes the QB is the most important player on the team.. I get that.. but he aint winnin jack without some help. It's disrespectful to those 47 other guys to keep acting like they play no part in their teams' fortunes.

At the end of the day the Cowboys TEAM will need to play 4 straight great games to win it all. Dak is part of that team.. however he alone will not win or lose any game. Why is that such a hard reality for some to accept?
Stafford last year wasn't elite in the SB, defense got that ball back, b2b possessions to get them, the opportunity to come back and win after he threw 2 INTs.. TEAM Game my man :)

Joe Flacco once "won" a playoff game with these stats (you are not going to believe this)

  • 4 completions
  • 10 attempts
  • 34 yards passing
  • 0 TDs
  • 1 interception
  • 10.0 QB rating. (you read that right...a 10...not 110....just 10...lol)

possibly worst playoff performance n NFL history and he got the "win"
That's one reason why folks that assign QBs playoff "wins" have lost their minds

True...always a Team Game

Fwiw, Stafford WAS elite on the final drive. Incredibly, insanely elite. Doing stuff few not named Mahomes can do.
But no, he was not perfect for the whole game

Just some trivia...he was the only QB in NFL history to not throw a 4th quart pick all season last year (playoffs or regular season)
Also 1st QB ever to lead his team on 3 straight late 4th qtr game-winning drives in the playoffs

Btw, one of the picks was a pick/punt....not really a true pick. 3rd and a mile...nobody was open, so threw it 50 yards into the endzone for a jump ball chance at 6 instead of a punt. Actually a pretty smart play.
Stats don't tell the whole story

still took his defense b2b massive drive stoppers to get him the ball back or that never happens.

I'm not concerned with other teams QB

My concern is with the cowboys situation

And he demanded market value for an elite QB

Again the playoffs is where you earn that distinction

Nobody on our defense is making "elite" money. Why should they be held to a higher standard than Dak?

Dak didn’t demand anything. His agent negotiated with the Jones and they won and he got a favorable deal. Shocker - the Jones probably overpaid.

Also - he could’ve been had for cheaper the year prior but the Jones wanted to see another good season and he put it.

Wasn't that fumble Biadasz recovered caused by an opposing tackler stripping Dak of the football from behind during a QB blitz? If so, that falls on the Oline for not protecting well. Now, if Dak had lost the ball while running on his own, that would clearly be on him. Excuse me for not remembering how it happened. I have not had the time to rewatch the game.
It was a strip sack from behind right as Dak arm was going back to throw

Odds are he will have to. I say that because this defense isn't as good as it was earlier in the season. He doesn't have to be perfect, but he's gonna need to have 4 good games. He's capable.

its all about setting up Dak for their criticism. to your point, nobody is going to have perfect performance. they are all playoff teams. they are all good teams. and good teams will make good plays. you just have to make more good plays than the other team. manage the game and win.

but if Dak is not perfect, which he will not be, the dak detractors will have what they need to make criticism of every play missed.

they always evaluate Dak in a vaccum. and they demand him to be Elite, which he is not. nor does he need to be for us to win.

we need Moore to be better. we need defense to be better. we need Dak to be good and minimize his mistakes. and then we have a chance.

I don't care what anyone says, Eli Manning and Terry Bradshaw were not "all-time greats".

Bradshaw tossed more INTs than TDs in his career.

Eli was the epitome of "average, durable QB who played forever." Was never once considered an "elite QB" during his career by anyone paying attention.

LOL learn some football
Bradshaw was a great QB
Eli, I’ll give was good not great but he’s the only one you can point to in NFL history. Also during the playoffs he played above himself. That is why Dak will have to do the same

Because our defense has fallen on hard times we need dak to carry us.
This was on display against the shegals

Who’s saying this? I surely hope you are not wasting your time watching those day shows where guys who have never touched a football or a too concussed ex lineman talk about the QB position.
You can’t be serious.

I’m tired of it too. But you just can’t fix stupid or change someone from being hateful. What’s happening is that the haters are running out of things to ***** on about Dak. He’s destroyed every perception they’ve put forth so now they’re going there playoff route because it’s all they have left. They’ll ride that as long as they can. Even after the team wins a Superbowl they’ll still whine. “He’s got only one” or “The defense won the game,” yada yada, yada.

They just don’t have the balls to admit they were wrong.

So many Dak haters in here have said that...how Dak needs to prove his $40 million/year pay worth and carry this team to a Super Bowl. There have been threads created to crucify Dak's salary.
I've seen the salary threads/responses in the past. I had agreed in the past but then at some point, the market is going to exceed what he's making. His salary isn't his fault, it's our owners. He is good enough to win right now. He (and others on the team) just need to clean up a few things.

Dude stop.. Maybe you're not old enough to remember the Orange Crush defense bailing Elway out time and again but I am..

In Elway's first playoff win he was 13 of 32 (40.8%) for 257 yards 1 TD and 2 picks. But "won" the game. The following week in the AFC Championship against Cleveland he was almost as bad 22 of 38 244 yards 1 TD and 1 pick.. and would have gone home a loser if the defense doesn't force a goal line fumble at the end. Point being, if Dak put up those numbers people would be crucifying him and crediting the defense for "carrying him." Yet golden boy gets credited with "dragging that team" to the Super Bowl. It's weird how that works.

You're getting your years mixed up. That's ok, a lot of time has gone by, and I'm a little hazy on the 1986 season as well. The fumble at the GL came in the following year. The year you're referring to was when Elway took the team on a 5 minute 98 yard drive to tie the game. Converting some pretty critical 3rd downs along the way. It's a legendary moment in NFL history. Despite his raw numbers, he's had other heroic moments in the playoffs.

As far as the Orange Crush goes, I thought that was back in the 70s. Which super bowl team was the Orange crush in the 80s? The one that lost 39-20, 42-10, or 55-10?

Sorry but that's a revision. The narrative all along has been "he has to play great 4 straight games.." And "when they NEED him" is beginning opening kickoff until the final gun.
